Advertised for 60 bucks. Ended up getting a quote for 700 dollars. total bullshit. dont fall for this.

The website info is extremely misleading. They gave me a quote of $ 2,000 to fix the hard drive. Needless to say, I am going else where. I am still waiting for my hard drive to be mailed. I sent them a label for it to be returned, not wanting to take the risk with their system having issues. Per a previous review on Unilocal.I was told twice that the hard drive was mailed, yet nothing is showing up on the tracking. I am beyond mad, as my entire business is on that hard drive. They are good at only one thing, lying. Don’t trust these idiots. I have a feeling that I am going to have to pay someone to go over to the office to pick up the package. But it will be money well spent, as long as the hard drive gets mailed. Really bad experience! If I could give 0 stars I would!

Found them through Google offering a 60 $ basic recovery and though it was a steal beause other companys offered 2,000 quote so i sent it in and later received a quote for 1,200 500 $ for cleaning room and ect… The company is legit and do recovery’s but dont fall for their sly advertising will update this post once i find another company that is cheaper

I had first taken my drive to DataTech Labs, they diagnosed the drive as:
«The drive is mechanically failed; most of the heads don’t work. Some work but not all the heads work and that is why the drive doesn’t work properly.»
While I cannot confirm or dis-​confirm this diagnosis, they quoted $ 2000, yes, that’s TWO THOUSAND dollars to recover the data.
I’m sure in some cases the customers data has that value, but my customer declined their service, and at that point and I retrieved the drive.
A few days later I did some Googling and decided to give get a diagnosis and price from Outsource Data Recovery. I dropped the drive off locally, and was soon contacted by Alex D. who stated they had high confidence that the data could be recovered, with a quotation of $ 598, over $ 1400 less than DataTech.
I gave them the go ahead, paid the fee, and a week later I had the data in my hands, 100% recovered.
The service was cost effective for the regular guy, with good communication, and totally successful.

I wish I had read these reviews and other complaints online. I sent them my 2TB drive and they gave me a quote of $ 700 to retrive my data, I asked the drive back. I found a honest online business that did the same job for $ 275. Just a wasting of time

They won’t tell you the truth! Their engineering and customer service are separated. In most cases, engineering decision is that it falls into the $ 60 range (or even less), but since they won’t make money from it, the service representative will quote you as many as $ 2000! And the service representative will never reply your email. Their return mailing is slow. And, you can never delete your payment method even after your case is completed.
I have a disk that I know for sure it is just some minor problem (I am an engineer), but I do not have the software and tools to fix it, so I sent it to OutSource, since I know it falls into the $ 60 range (even less, since there is not hardware damage). They first quoted me for $ 60, without a button for me to pay. Then after a few days, the quote changed to about $ 2000. I know this is a scam for sure, so I asked for returning my disk. I waited for a few weeks, and got my disk back. Found it is already fixed. I was not surprised at all, since I know for sure my disk will be easily fixed during their free diagnostics step. But I am angry that they did not tell me the truth and want to charge me $ 2000. I would buy a new alienware with $ 2000, or buy the best MacBook, or buy a very good SLR camera, or go traveling in Europe or China and get some beautiful memories. But I just won’t waste $ 2000 on them!

If they just tell me the truth, and quote me $ 200 for the diagnostics and service, I would be happy to accept it. It is what they deserve. However, they quoted me for $ 2000. They treat their customers like stupid swines. That is the reason I have to write this post here.
Finally, I did not lose anything, and got my disk fixed with just the mailing fees, which is even less than $ 60. I am happy about this, but still angry that they cheat.
If you are an engineer and you know for sure your disk has some very small software problem that can be fixed during the free diagnostics, just send it to OutSource and no matter how much they quote you, you directly ask for return media. You will very likely get your problem solved with the smallest cost. I believe they have super good engineers. Don’t doubt.
In any other cases, don’t trust OutSource. You will get cheated.

Be careful, these guys can get very expensive. They advertise a simple electronic repair for $ 60, but if there’s any physical damage, it can easily grow into a couple thousand, and they have a way of finding physical damage. Be sure you know what you’re getting into before you send them your drive.

I shipped my drive via USPS priority mail. They contacted me three days later to notify me that the drive had arrived (May22, 2015). Their evaluation was completed very quickly and they sent me a quote to fix the drive for $ 60. I opted for getting an image of my drive for an additional $ 270. They sent me a link to verify all the files they were able to recover and once I was in agreement they started the process.
They turned it around quickly and it was on my doorstep today June 10, 2015. I got a Seagate 3TB drive with all my files. They were very responsive, I was getting updates every time there was something relevant to inform.
I will use them again and I will recommend them to everyone I know requires this type of service.
By the way, my drive was a WD red drive which are supposed to be the gold standard but this time WD came out very short in quality. Very disappointed at WD.

Fastastic! Our shared music drive at work died. We didnt have a chance to back it up. Found Outsource Data Recovery online — free diagnostics! Price came back cheaper than $ 700 bucks to recover over 10 years of music and rare motion picture soundtracks. It was worth it. I dont even have the CDs anymore to attempt to re-​rip all those songs. Learned my lesson. Purchased a RAID WD drive yesterday and now its’ backed up in two locations. Outsourcedata says they will repair your hard drive for $ 60 on their website but after sending in my WD hard drive they wanted to charge me $ 1140 to recover 300 GB of data. This website is a complete waste of time and money.

I had an external HDD that I lent to a friend, he used the wrong power supply and the HDD wouldn’t be recognized anymore. It would just heat up after about 2 minutes. After some research online it seemed like the PCB was defected/​burnt. So I took a leap of faith and sent them my HDD. A day after receiving it they diagnosed it and emailed me back a replacement PCB indeed got it working again and all my data was intact. Gladly paid the $ 60 which included fixing and shipping it back to me. Saved my over $ 1K in data recovery for all my family pictures over the years which is priceless to me.

These guys are amazing!
My backup drive died. I spent hours trying to figure out how to fix it on my own. I even bought another drive to borrow parts for my broken drive. That didn’t work and cost $ 100. If you’ve had a hard drive die, I’m sure you know I had so much anxiety about this.
I happened to come across Outsource Data Recovery’s site. I am so glad I found about their service. I sent my hard drive to them, and within 2 days they told me they were able to repair my drive. They sent it back to be. In total it took less than a week from when I sent my drive to when I got my drive back. It was in perfect working order. I was able to transfer all my data to a new hard drive.

So here is the story. I sent my hard drive to them on Jan 18^th, they notified me that it was received in the facility on ¹⁄₂₂ — I paid 5.50 with insurance and signature using the US Mail, against their preferred shipment methods DHL, UPS or FedEx, I have not heard from them for a whole two weeks, after sending several e-​mails, calling and leaving several messages I finally get ahold of them just to hear that they sent me a quote on Jan 26^th — I looked everywhere, spam folder — no quote… it of course made me a bit suspicious of how thorough their service is.
Briefly — I did know that the failure of my HD is mechanical and — their diagnostics weren’t at all surprising — I got quoted $ 260 to retrieve the data with a local Data Recovery Company (which I will follow up with and if they are able to recover the data for $ 260 I will post all their information — their quote was $ 1100.
What really aggravated me is the type of «hard sale» they do — they know we need our data and we will try to do anything. The rep also went to the extent to tell me that even if I was to get my hd back, I won’t be able to extract the information at all — ever. — why? I asked, is it that you opened the drive and didn’t put it together the way it was before — even broken? If this is the case, they will have a ton of trouble with me, I don’t like hard sales, I don’t like payment plans (50/​month for the duration of the payment — you only get your drive when its fully paid — I calculated for the 1100 it will take me only 22 months to get my data back!
You got to be kidding me? Does it at all make sense to you, to pay for something they «tell» you is repaired for 2 years, What is it is not? I won’t do it… so I asked for my HD back, again — painful conversation is continuing… «We can just dispose of the HD for you — Don’t you get it?? I do want my HD back, and I want it exactly in the state it was sent to you». «I don’t want you to dispose of it I WANT IT BACK.
and again «But you won’t be able to do anything with it!» — Really, because you guys are clairvoyants over there ?? Just send the damn thing back! Thank you!
So, bottom line don’t get fooled — I was trying to be cheap, I am a student, I just dropped $ 1100 for a new computer, and wasted a whole lot of time and now money too, (they will take 10 days for ground delivery of my HD (weights about 18 oz.) and charge me $ 15 for it. Fine! We all learn from our mistakes, please do not make one too.
The positive was that the representative kept their temper cool and it didn’t escalate into a quorel, so this is why they are getting two stars.
To me this is a «bait and switch» — $ 60 my behind!
Data recovery is data recovery, there is nothing these people can do that other data recovery can’t. I thought I’d share my thoughts and experience with you.

I found ODR when searching for a donor PCB on Ebay. I paid the $ 60 and shipped my drive. They turned it around quickly and it was on my doorstep, fully functional within two weeks or sooner. I read other reviews, and suspect an unreliable narrator – data recovery services are very expensive when the issue is a physically damaged hard drive, from dropping it or some physical shock. That was not my problem. What ODR did for me was replace the burned-​out PCB, then tested the drive and shipped it back. A good price when the problem was due to the power cable being flipped (my fault – I was in a hurry and forced the 4-​pin plug in backward on the adapter). Anyone who’s had a drive recovered knows that there’s a lot of anxiety involved – and ODR minimized that with excellent communication and speedy service done right. Had there been a problem with the platters, motor, or pickups, the cost would have been significantly higher – from ANY vendor. I’m very happy I went with these guys and will send them another drive now that I know they’re reliable. Also note that this vendor shipped the drive back FedEx, packed well, and included the original defective part for verification. You can’t ask for much more.
