Description

History

Established in 1974.

The history behind the world famous Louie’s Pizza and Subs

Louie Gouvas emigrated to the United States from Greece in 1956. After becoming a U.S. citizen, and learning the language via a brief enrollment in high school, he started his career as a dish washer and quickly worked his way up the restaurant kitchen ranks. by becoming a cook and waiter, here in Delaware aswell as the D.C.

and Pennsylvania areas.

Eventually settling back here in Rehoboth in the early sixties to take

over his uncles hot dog and hamburger joint called Georges Lunch that had been established in 1947. Just before his departing Georges in 1974 he built Louie’s and eventually made the transition into the pizza world. Now Louie’s is still operated and maintained by

the family, currently owned and operated by Tim and Tony, Louie’s

sons.

To this day, Louie still can be seen in the back making the dough or sauce, and grading the cheese.
