Modena Moving

Ordered via Groupon, I can only comment on the unloading as my roommates were there for loading and I came late. Everything went fairly well and we (myself and 2 other roomates) along with the 2 movers unloaded a pretty full truck (3BR, including 2 couches and a grill) up 1 floor in about an hour. Our only issue was at the end one of the movers (bald head guy, never got his name) gave us a huge gripe for not tipping enough (we tipped 20% off the NON discounted Groupon price) and sat in the driveway haggling with us for 20 or so mins. I threw in another $ 25 but felt that was a bit unprofessional.

With so many great moving companies available in and around New York City I am genuinely curious how this company is still in business. I gave one star because it’s required by Unilocal,otherwise I would have given 0 stars. Like several of the other reviews below, I also had an appointment (confirmed both via phone and email) with Modena Movers, to which they never showed up. I also called repetatively only to be ignored by Valentin. At one point I had reached out so many times that Valentin actually picked up the phone and then hung up on me. I’m not sure how anyone would think they could operate a successful business with this type of behavior.
My move was scheduled for several days ago at this point, and I am still waiting to hear from Valentin. If this happened once or twice, I could understand it being a mix up, or a mistake. But consistant behavior like this is unacceptable. Moving is stressful enough in and of itself, don’t add to your own frustration by working with this company.

DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS! Your bags will be packed, your dog will be crated, you’ll have the keys to your new place in hand, and… you will wait and wait and call and call. They won’t show up. They will not call you back and 24 hours later you and your things will still be waiting to move. I had to take a day off of work and hire someone else because they never showed! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

DO NOT USE MODENA MOVERS — unless you want to be stranded in your apartment with all of your belongings packed up and ready to go without movers or any word from the moving company. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE experience. We booked an appointment for 9 AM sunday morning almost a month in advance. We called to confirm twice, once the week before and once the day before, and also received a confirmation email from the company. The morning of, the movers NEVER SHOWED UP. We called, texted and emailed repetatively for hours but Valentin never responded;. We had to be out of our apartment that day and ended up renitng a last minute truck and moving everthing ourselves. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of Valentin and Modena Movers, you’ll be glad you did.

My family can not express the gratitude we have toward Valentin and his team for assisting us in our move from NY to SC. He gave us a great price, was efficient, punctual and his entire team was friendly. We had an entire house with multiple generations to move, and the team never complained or slowed up. In a time when moving companies are known to stiff you, this company really made us feel at ease, and on short notice to top it off. Valentin and his worker drove 20 hours to ensure timely delivery. We HIGHLY recommend them on your move. We are a real family and this is a genuine post. Thanks Guys!!!

Modena Moving gave me a fair competitive price and they took really good care of my stuff, really professional, and Valentin was very communicative with me and he responded to all my questions and needs. I will definitely use them again, they moved me and my brother from Dyker Heights to Bay Ridge and we really appreciate them.
I would recommend Modena because of their great price and excellent customer service!

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT USE THEM! We scheduled these movers from 1 – 3. They didn’t even arrive until a quarter after 4. Then they announce that parking is bad (It’s Upper East so duh?!) and that we need to figure something out because they don’t want to get a ticket (how is this our problem). They then ask my friend to sit in their van which wreaks of stale McDonalds and has nasty pictures of women hanging in it. The man then continues to bitch about how it’s a walk up and continues to ask me if he has to take certain stuff. Then he claims that the mattress has bed bugs and won’t move it. The mattress is old (we are in grad school at NYU and can’t exactly afford brand new everything). So he starts refusing to take it. He then calls his ‘boss’ and when I ask to speak to his the manager won’t acknowledge that his employee is simply being lazy and I really start to get mad. The employee then demands to his boss that they cancel the job! Excuse me?! They agree to take the box spring and not the mattress (showing that there clearly
Is no bed bug worry since if there was they wouldn’t take that either). However it is too late in the day to even get another company. IT WAS AT THIS POINT that he asks me to sign the moving contract (professional bro). Also despite both of them being fluent in English, they chose to speak Spanish to each other thinking I didn’t understand them (surprise I used to live in Ecuador and Peru). So I understood the inappropriate names I was being called as well as the complaining about having to do a basic job. I seriously have a hard time believing I am the only one with this experience and question the validity of the other posts on here…

Modena was flexible, price competitive, attentive and polite. I had a great experience and highly recommend them.

Valentine (the head dude) took excellent care of our stuff. He and his crew were punctual, professional and thorough. Best moving experience I’ve ever had in NYC or anywhere really. I’d recommend Modena to any friend or family member.

I’ve moved a ton over the years and it’s not easy, especially in NYC. But I’m thankful that I found Modena Moving. They were a pleasure to work with and super fast. I highly recommend them!

My moving experience with Modena was very pleasant. Valentin kept me in the loop and called the morning of to inform me that he was on his way to my apartment. He showed up earlier than the scheduled time and moved me out of my 3^rd floor walk-​up apartment in UES to the new building in Queens quickly and efficiently. I would recommend them to everyone I know. Oh, and another plus was the price was the lowest for insured movers I could find for an end of the month move. Would definitely use them again!

These guys are great. Very reasonable prices, very professional and very good service. They came in got everything wrapped up and safely moved my entire bedroom very quickly. I recommend them and I wish their business the best.

Great service! Valentin was very communicative throughout the process. He wanted to see my apartment I was moving from to gauge the amount of work. And he gave me an amazing deal. I found them on Groupon, which made me skeptical a little but it was true – his quote was a flat fee. No added fee for extra guys (I had 3), tape, clothes boxes, blankets, etc. I highly recommend!!! And I will use him again.

Only gave them 1 star because you have to. No, I did not use them, so why I am writing a review? Well, the guy answering the phone was very rude. He gave me a qoute to move a full sized bed and headboard, one 4 cubed ikea shelf, one 3’x3’ ikea dresser, one small 3’x3’ consol desk a mirror and at most 10 boxes (and that was pushing it) for over $ 500. I advised that I called because I was given a Groupon and after asking when I would like to move he said we don’t accept Groupons on that day. Had my friend cancel the Groupon.
HONESTLY, take your money elsewhere.
