Thrifty Ice Cream Counter

yay! thrifty ice cream is now in the bay area! or maybe it’s been here, but i haven’t been aware of it until recently! this one is located inside of the rite aid in the «hills» of redwood city.
my husband grew up in the greater la area and was used to paying a quarter (and later 2 quarters) for a single scoop of thrifty’s signature cylindrical-​shaped ice cream. fast forward a couple of decades, and a single scoop is now $ 1.79, still pretty good for a generous scoop of ice cream (most bay area ice creameries will charge you $ 3, maybe $ 4 for a single scoop).
we came here after dinner with family and everyone got a single scoop of their choice. there were at least 2 dozen flavours available, including black cherry, mint chocolate chip, cookie dough, and circus animal cookie. cups and cones were available, priced the same regardless of which you chose.
very happy to see thrifty ice cream in the bay area, and in my hometown to boot! i will definitely be back!
