Family owned for over 50 years, Hassett Hardware opened its doors in Redwood City in 2014. We specialize in hardware, paint, garden and housewares and we carry your favorite trusted brands like Benjamin Moore, Bona, Clark and Kensington, Clorox, Craftsman, DeWalt, E. B. Stone, Dremel, GE, Kitchen Aid, Stihl, Pyrex and more.

Our staff is knowledgeable in everything from plumbing to electrical to gardening to paint and we offer several services: Official certified STIHL product repair, other small motor repair, re-​keying, key cutting, paint matching, and CFL recycling. We also make you feel at home.

History

Established in 1957.

Hassett ACE Hardware is a third-​generation, family-​owned, local business including five ACE hardware stores in the Bay Area: Half Moon Bay, Palo Alto, San Mateo Willow Glen and Redwood City. Our mission is to provide good, old-​fashioned customer service.

We are part of the ACE co-​operative (not franchise), because we believe in shared ownership and the ACE values. We ARE the helpful place and we have some of the best, most knowledgeable employees in the Bay Area — come on in and find out for yourself!

I Walked in looking for something to make a prize wheel out of a foam board spin. There were a gang of workers but the first one who asked me if i needed assistance was Devin, i explained to him what i needed and he suggested a few options. He literally helped me and thought of some ideas for about 15 minutes. He also called over another worker maybe even a mgr, who use to be a teacher that also gave me some ideas. We ended up figuring out what was best and the both of them was super great and provided excellent customer service. I plan to work on my project and hopefully it works, thanks guys!!!

This business is very well organized, staffed will well trained employees. They greet you when you enter the store and are offering to help. If you say you do not need help, they do not insist. If you ask for help, they seem genuinely happy to be of service. Kevin especially impresses me: when I arrive at the cash, he does not ask my name and if I have an Ace Rewards account. Instead he asks how I am doing, while he types in my name, as he remembers my name and address from previous visits!
There is a misconception that a small store like Ace is always more expensive than the big boxes. Ace is sometimes cheaper, and often has original merchandise, in stock. Unless the price is significantly higher, I prefer to support this neighborhood store. Hassett hardware is investing in local employees, most of them quite young but backed up by more experienced employees. The work ethic, values and experience Hassett gives to their employees will last a lifetime, no matter what job they will do later in life. I would feel cheap to not favor this place, unless the products I need are not available.

I found a tiny uprooted tree on my hike today and decided to take it home. I went in to pick up just dirt but Kevin helped me pick out a pot and planted it for me. Kevin was so friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back again!

Every time we come here the staff members are friendly and helpful. They want to help and they know their products not like Home Depot. The place is always clean and bright.
We enjoy walking around and looking at the tools.
Lisa, the garden manager, is really cool. Lisa showed us what to buy so my daughter and I can have a project on her day off :) From now on, no more large warehouse.

Miles helped me out and I really have to say he went above and beyond. I needed to rig a custom stabilizer for my camera and Miles helped me explore several options, eventually settling on an outstanding solution. Miles also helped me cut the pieces necessary in store, on the spot. Very positive experience! Also the store is very clean and there were no lines. Winning!

Ace Hardware is a very nice store. Store assistants are super friendly and helpful. If you can’t find an item they will walk you right to it, explain its purpose, show you other options and ask what else do you need help with! If they don’t have what you are looking for they will order it. I recently purchased a Weber charcoal replacement grate and I asked if they accept competitor’s pricing. I showed the clerk the price from another store and they gave me the cheaper price. I was excited how they stood in total customer service.

This is certainly not modeled after the wonderful Palo Alto Ace Hardware store. And. I think they have been opened long enough to work out the kinks.
Not sure how much expertise or knowledge these young clerks have. They called to open up another station and then totally ignored me as I was the next in line. Clueless.
Pretty small garden area. Clerk didn’t know how to handle the check out and had nothing to put my plants on for the car. All in all, probably worth it for me to drive to Palo Alto for an experienced staff.

A friend and I went to check this new business. (we still miss McWhorter’s). Anyway, we had a few things to get too.
It was a little creepy. It’s nice to get service, but there were so many employees and what looked like an owner, or manager, that it seemed everyone was falling over themselves to see if we needed help, even when we said we were just looking. It felt like trying too hard.
When we checked out, our receipt paper didn’t print, so she asked for assistance. It took about 10 min. for the «experienced» person to figure out that the paper had been loaded wrong. As we stood joking around and waiting patiently, some flies kept flying around them and we started joking about them. Then the «experienced» cashier went on this big speech about hating bugs, especially bugs in her hair. As we left she still was going on and on about bugs in her hair.
Maybe they’re still working out the kinks, but it was a bizarre experience.

Given the universal truth that no project can be completed with just one trip to the hardware store I am ecstatic to finally have one close to my house. Nothing’s worse than having to drive all the way back to Home Depot/​OSH because you came up three nails short.
Hassett Hardware carries everything you’ll need for most home repair and improvement projects. The store is large, clean and well stocked. The staff friendly and helpful. Prices may be a tad higher than the big box alternatives but the convenience more than makes up for that. Plus, I’ve already received two $ 5.00 off coupons since signing up for ACE Rewards.
This store is a great addition to the neighborhood and I look forward to giving them my continued business. Speaking of which, I need to go get some Teflon tape right now. I think I’ll walk. :D

Large location and thank goodness it has finally opened. This area of Redwood City was in dire need of a great hardware store and this foots the bill.

Really enjoyed my first visit to this shop.
I have SO been looking forward to its opening. I grew up going to a local ACE Hardware (on Alameda in Menlo Park) with my Dad, and I missed that …
The staff is a bit young and unseasoned — but I do not think that will be a concern for long. Everyone (!) was eager to help and excessively friendly.
Great service. Beautiful space. Clean, organized and big!
