Etheric Networks

Called two different times and waited each time for about 20 minutes for someone to pick up, finally spoke with someone to request service. Followed up with email and waited a week. Got nothing — not a call back nor an estimate of when I will get a response. If this is the sales process, imagine what the support is like.

My Internet service has not worked for 5 days, ever since they did maintenance on the mt Madonna tower. They refuse to send a tech to fix it. I have spent hours on the phone with them trying to fix the problem and nothing works. I’m canceling my service until they can send a tech to fix the problem.

I live in Gilroy ca at the base of the foothills. I’ve used Verizon Internet forever with extremely slow wireless service in my home. Cannot download cuz it takes forever and crashes. My son cannot download homework or upload takes hours sometimes or most of the time.
I was recommended to Etheric by my neighbor. I called and received a quote. While they are more expensive than Verizon I figure by cancelling my bundle with Verizon I could justify the extra money.
The sales person, Ken was very helpful and so were the install team! I’ve been up and running for 2 days and cannot believe why I waited so long! It gives us such faster speed then I could have ever ask for! Today I’m very pleased with the results! I hope it continues so we can get done what needs to be done.

My bona fides: 30+ years in Technology. Worked with ISP’s from Tier 1 (i.e. AT&T business) to Tier 3 (hyper-​local resellers of Tier 1 services). I’m pretty sure I’ve got the right experience to effectively review Etheric Networks.
So, what do I think?
Hands down, Etheric Networks is the finest ISP, from any vertical, that it has been my pleasure to work with. Their customer service is second to none. Their uptime is far above industry averages. On the rare occasion that there has been a problem I have been notified by email that the problem exists, the nature of the problem, the planned resolution and the anticipated repair completion time. Proactive, professional and caring. In other words, I’m treated like a valued customer. Try getting that from Comcast.
You could do far worse than working with Etheric. I’m not sure how you could do better.

Seriously, this is what all ISPs should be like. The support is epic and the product is outstanding. It’s expensive, but you get what you pay for. Comcast was totally unreliable and could not provide me with good enough service for VOIP even with their voice product. AT&T can only get me 1.5×384 which is worse than my cell phone. Etheric’s service never drops, uses my equipment so I don’t provide wifi access to all comcast customers in range…
I’m very happy with them.

Without question… our experience with Etheric has been the most infuriating, horrible example of worst ever service I have ever had with a product of any kind in my long life. I cannot even play Pandora in my home without being logged off in 5 minutes and I have talked to countless supposed experts in their supposed customer «service» department for months and they have done absolutely nothing to solve our problem. We have been transported back to the stone ages of dial up connectivity… but wait… it’s not even that good. Run screaming for the exits folks… this company should be put out of our misery.

I’ve had etheric for over 2 years now and am very pleased. Their network is fast, stable and low latency. Customer support, the few times I’ve called, has been efficient and courteous.

I’ve been an Etheric customer for 5 years and could not be happier.
Not only is the SOHO service FAST and low-​latency, I have come to depend on getting the top end of my range (I pay for minimum 10 mbps/​max 25 mbps service, and I consistently see my bandwidth above 21 megabits/​second). This is exceptional, given that the competition in this area claims «best-​effort speeds up to 3 megs» with no guarantee.
Going the extra mile:
I’m at the far reaches of Etheric’s service (22 miles from tower), and I’m the only location in my neighborhood that can get service. I asked Etheric what options my neighbors might have, and whether we could work out an agreement for me to re-​distribute my connection.
Etheric was sympathetic and not only have they allowed me to do this, they’ve pledged their support to this community project, and have worked with me over the last few years to make the service better — for my whole neighborhood.
No way their competition allows this. I’ve asked and been shot down by every other internet provider on ‘re-​selling’.
This team goes above and beyond to keep customers happy. I’ve exchanged phone calls and emails with Sales VP, Tech Support VP, Director of Engineering, even the founder, Alexander called me personally when I had to escalate an issue. Every interaction is professional and personal; they take time to work through my questions and offer as much support as I need.
Can’t say enough good things about Etheric.

I went from 2Mb/​s download and .25 upload if I was lucky with V****zon with a connection that was glitchy everyday (it often didn’t work at all if it was raining) to a connection that, off peak hours often hits 10Mb/​s bi-​directionally. Yes it’s more expensive but there was *no* upgrade path with my previous provider despite the fact that I live 300 Meters from the fiber optic backbone. Etheric networks is really good most of the time. Because I began working from home I upgraded to their SOHO package… I’m still dropping Skype calls on a regular basis (and I’m the only one using the internet at that time of day). I suspect there just isn’t enough bandwidth for everyone in the space of my antenna (Coyote Valley). I’m really happy that it works as good as it does, but the price and the dropped calls (daily…but not every call… and only during peak hours 10am-​3pm time) reduce their service by a star are something people need to know about before they sign up.

Etheric upgraded our radio to the newest offering and the results are impressive.
I’m super happy with EthericNetworks. They have looked after us very well. I’m an Etheric evangelist around here now !
One of our neighbors signed up for service and got the new AClite radio and are also seeing great results.
I downloaded a bunch of linux ISO images via bittorrent and am seeing around 40mbit/​s peaking at 80 !

I have called Etheric three times over the last three weeks for new service. The first time I left my name and number with a technician who said he would pass on my information to the appropriate person. The second and third time I called I left my name, home number and cell number on their voice mail. I spoke slowly and repeated the phone numbers.
I have not received a call back from Etheric. Those are the facts. You be the judge.

I have etherics through the apt complex I live in. I moved in in Jan ’15 and so far more often than not it’s not working. I even bought a WiFi extender to try and help. I’m not tech savvy but it was worth a try. As I write this my TV has been stuck at 50% loaded for the last 10 min. I’ve emailed them before and received no response. Sadly even my landlord said the service isn’t great. It’s definitely not a reliable service for people who do a lot of streaming or gaming. Constantly going in and out of signal. It’s quite aggravating. Note: my phone auto connected back to etherics as I wrote this. Went to sign in to Unilocal and I got a blank screen instead.

I got Etheric a few weeks ago and went from about 2 mbps with my old provider to 15 to 20 mbps dowload – and this is on the 4 mbps plan. I live in Los Altos Hills and this is the provider everyone on our block uses. So far it’s been miraculous to suddenly have, reliably, up to 10 times the speed. They came out and installed within 2 days. Very professional. It’s expensive but worth it. And Sonia is great – very knowledgeable and patient! I had one issue right after installation on a Friday evening. It is true as they say on the web that you always can talk to someone, 24/​7, and if during regular hours can talk to the same person. My issue was quickly resolved.

This Husky’s extended family recently got Etheric Networks service Silver deal with $ 10/​month Unilocal special. They are very happy and pleased… especially since they are up in the hills and challenging to get the performance/​reliability of internet connections.
Been looking quietly in background for alternative for extended family 10+ and glad that Etheric is providing these for residential customers now.
Keep up the great work Etheric! Will come back in a year or so to give updates.

I have residential service with Etheric, and have found it to be great at times, but overall it’s just plain unreliable– routine outages, speeds below contracted levels, and slow-​ish service.
I wanted a fast, reliable ISP that wasn’t associated with the usual set of cable companies (and all the associated BS), and that’s what I thought I was getting. I knew that the company was small and employees spread a bit thin, but hey, that’s OK with me as long as the service is good. The price is also a bit high– maybe double the amount you’d pay to a cable company for the same speeds.
In practice, the internet connection speed is highly variable– looking at the graph on
, I see my results during a test vary all the way from 1.2 mpbs all the way to 10X that figure… in one test. Meanwhile, the upload speed remains rock solid at 18mpbs…
Updated to add additional information on 4÷19÷2015:
Once again, it’s the same story as my last review: speeds drop to below-​contract levels with huge variations (and by speed drop, I mean down to .5 mpbs). I called in rather than creating a ticket like I did last time, and since then I’ve received no information about the status, no information about why the speed dropped, etc.- until I called back asked what was going on. I received no clear answer, received assurances that I *would* hear back, and then didn’t. Last night, everything started working well once again– and now we’re getting excellent speed.
Did I ever get a call back or see any kind of update explaining what was going on? Did they close the ticket? Offer a refund on the days when we had essentially no service? Nope.
I’m leaving my rating at 2 stars, and once again wondering if there’s someone else that can offer better reliability. When you depend on your internet connection for all communication, entertainment, etc., it’s truly a utility that is hard to live without.

Same exact problem as before (slow and widely variable speeds), with an added issue: I now have very high ‘jitter’ and intermittent packet loss.
I reported the problem on 1/​26, and have called in several times since then with updates and requests for them to fix it. So far, 0 call-​backs. Each time, the person is respectful, professional, and apologetic. Each time, the promised call-​back does not occur, and the issues continue.
Given some of the other reviews, I was hoping that maybe they would offer me an improved radio, etc.- but nothing like that has happened– just continued promises and no follow-​up or follow-​through. Because we have VOIP, I now have to go out to the front-​yard and make a cell phone call if I actually want the person on the other end of the phone to understand me (and vice versa). What a pain!
I would like to just summarily fire them as my ISP given the repeated issues, poor follow-​up, etc., but fortunately for Etheric (and unfortunately for me), there is no competition in my area other than Charter Cable, which offers rock-​bottom pricing and horrifically bad service as well as data caps and a nasty corporate approach to everything.
My rating is now 1 star.

I’ve had Etheric’s service for about 2 years now, and it’s been fantastic. In fact, every aspect of my interaction with them has been top-​notch.
The installation was done under the most challenging circumstances (i.e., at the top of a 150′ tall redwood tree with a repeater at my neighbor’s house since I didn’t have line of sight). The engineering team was courteous, professional and very tenacious.
The service itself has *always* measured at higher bandwidth than the service plan I paid for (17MB/​s instead of 4MB/​s), and has been extremely reliable. On the very rare occasions when there was a problem, it was always fixed within an hour, and often before I even got around to calling their support line.
On the few occasions when I’ve needed to call, I was able to directly dial an engineer who was able to correct any issues (or at least give an ETA) within minutes.
I really can’t recommend their service highly enough.

Awesome service & company.
Had them installed about a year ago as I have no other decent alternative. My only land option was Verizon DSL which was only giving me 0.5Mbps, with a ping time often going through the roof (~1s) and 3 – 4 disconnections/​reboots per day.
Once I called these guys they were on site 3 days later and I had my new connection up in 2 hours.
The service has been running very smoothly, never had a disconnection and the speed and latency are great.

Finally had a chance to call on minor service issue. They helped me resolve immediately. Back to working perfectly. Great company!

I am in Etheric’s service area and I asked for the location of Etheric’s transmitters several times so I could check if I had line-​of-​sight. I never got that information and I had to schedule a service tech visit. The tech was 2 hours late and needed my WiFi password to run Google Earth on his laptop. The check is simply standing on the roof with binoculars. The verdict was that there was no service. Then I got the list of transmitters and it was clear that they were too distant and low on the horizon. Google Earth showed that too. Getting that information up-​front would have saved me hours of time that I had to take off work for phone calls and the service call.

Have a house off the grid and set up a radio link to Etheric at the radio tower on Summit Rd — about a 2 mile shot. We’ve had the service for seven or eight years. Speed is great — VPN into work is faster than from my desk in the office. Minor service outages when they do equipment upgrades. Tech support is fast and first rate.

Great company. Provided broadband to my office in sunnyvale.
Very professional company, delivered what was promised.

I recently realized I need a new router since mine is about 7 years old or so. When my internet went down last night, I figured it was their issue. Today I called Etheric, my service provider (as I live in the absolute middle of nowhere, I had them install a radio dish to pull a signal from the Loma Prieta tower), and asked them what was up. They reported it wasn’t anything on their end, but even so, Alvaro walked me through the whole process of getting my POS router back on line. He didn’t have to do this, and he was also very patient when explaining everything to me. Great customer service at five pm on a Monday. Thanks, guys.

I looooooove Etheric! BY FAR the best Internet provider I have ever had, wireless or otherwise. I live in the hills above Milpitas, and until Etheric came along, it was just so frustrating dealing with slow connections, unreasonable data caps, and much downtime. Etheric not only has blazing speed (BOTH UP & down!), but has been rock-​solid for the year or so that I’ve had it. The one or two times where there was a technical difficulty (which of course can happen to anyone), their customer service was amazing — imagine getting a real, competent person immediately without having to go through a 20-​layer phone tree — what a concept!
They also have the foresight to let us know whenever they might be working on or upgrading their equipment, even if the network will be down for 30 seconds as they switch something over. They KNOW how it can effect an important business download or upload, so I really appreciate such notifications (which are rare anyway!)
If I could give 6 stars to this company, I would!
