Lou Schrieber has taught over 50,000 students. He was #1 dance teacher in the world and was a former master trainer for Arthur Murray’s. He uses techniques where you learn without everyone watching you, plus he teaches slowly and uses humor to make it friendly and easy to learn. All ages attend from teens to 70’s plus. Both singles and couples are welcome. When you sign up for one night, you can attend the other two nights for free for makeup and extra practice. With these extra nights to practice, we have the best value in LA!

History

Established in 1959.

When Lou was eighteen and in college, he got a job as an

Arthur Murray dance teacher. They gave him the students

who were hardest to teach. But with Lou those students

learned! He loved teaching dance. Right from the first hour he knew, «This is what I was born to do.» When he was twenty, he was named the top Arthur Murray teacher in the world. Lou’s zest for life led him in other directions, too. He earned a master’s degrees in both business and psychology from UCLA. He’s taught classes at Harbor College and twice was voted «Teacher of the Year.» Lou believes in leading a balanced life. In the afternoon, he would come home from his college classes, and then teach dancing at night, which he always looked forward to. Rather than tiring him out, he feels that his classes energize him. In January, 1959, Lou left Arthur Murray’s, to become an independent dance teacher. Over the years, and a few names later, it finally became Walk In Dance Out.

Friendly community based group of young and older dancers who like to have fun while learning the various steps to a wide variety of both slow and fast dances.
Professional Instructor who has a passion and sense of humor that is contagious and a class format that makes learning fun and easy. Inexpensive with Tuesday and Thursday evening classes for both beginners and advanced dancers. Private lessons available. Great music and occasional social parties. A good way to meet your neighbors throughout the South Bay. Walk in and Dance Out.

This is a great class and a great group of people of all ages and experience levels! There is a lot of emphasis on the passion of the steps as well as the technical, which really makes you feel inspired! Whatever your experience level the community is really built to help and support everyone. The price is great and the group is very open, very welcoming, very experienced, and the instructor Luz has such great style! I highly recommend this as a great way to let your worries fall away for a few hours and enjoy yourself!

If you know how to dance then this would be to basic for you. They teach a wide variety of things at a real basic level. Even in the advanced class is basic other places the same dance is taught. I bought a groupon and was told it was only for beggining level, even though not advertised on groupon that way, so I am going but do a part as a man so I can feel like I am doing something I haven’t done before. This may sound all negative but it is not my intention. There are some great positives to this class. They let you go three times a week at different locations, If you are a couple or a single you will learn from true basic so don’t have to be intimideated if never learned to dance before or have two left feet, the instructors are very friendly and most of the students are too. The only con’s would be the odd meetings lou has at end of each lesson and the price, I have taken lessons all around LA area and these seem kind of high. Most places will include a dance afterwards for practicing and if you don’t get to use what you learned in real life then the lessons will be for nothing.

i think this guy Lou is the best teacher for any basic dance. he can take someone from zero and all others teachers really cannot. learn from Lou and then if you want more then his basic class thats fine but again hes the best to learn from

I was a bit scared when I first walked in and saw how many old men were in this class in Playa Del Rey at the Knights of Columbus Hall with its pictures of priests and popes on the walls, but then as more couples and some younger folks showed up I started to relax. I thought maybe I turned up to a meeting rather than the dance class — turns out those old guys can really dance.
I started taking the beginner classes after taking the introductory free first class. The classes start in 6 week increments and you can choose whether you want to keep going at the end of the class.
So, I am only my 2nd class so I am not a pro yet but I think I will definately enjoy the next 4 weeks and we shall see… I might stick around for another round as it gets my heart pumping and puts a smile on my face.

For those who want to learn to dance, Lou is the absolute best instructor! Especially in learning the basics, and especially for men who can take a lot longer to learn dancing. You learn everything simply and with much repetition, so it becomes second nature. After several months with Lou, you might decide to continue with him (I continued for 5 years!). Or you might move on to whatever social scene you’re looking for. Also, he has quarterly balls with attendance of over 200, that are really fun.

Anyone that can teach my BF to dance (who used to look like a baby dancing), really knows how to teach.
We were awful the first couple of classes. I wanted to lead, he wanted to tell me what I was doing wrong, and we fought. That;s why you don’t dance with the person you came with right away. You dance with someone who is more experienced than you, and step on their toes instead.
Now we dance great. In a year we learned to swing, waltz, foxtrot, swing-​hustle, salsa, merangue, tango, and two-​step. Lou is a fantastic teacher, and his volunteer staff are really helpful.
Go with a smile and be ready to laugh at yourself.

My friend Luz convinced me to sign up for these classes with Lou Schrieber (the owner of the business). She teaches with him on Thursdays at the other location in Redondo Beach. I have been going since last September, and the fees are totally reasonable ($ 35 for your first 6 sessions, and $ 65 for every six weeks you sign up for after that. Plus there are package deals, discounts, and ballroom dances that you can sign up for.).
Plus there are 3 other locations (Redondo Beach, West Los Angeles, and Pacific Palisades). So, if you miss your regularly scheduled class you can come early and make up the other lessons another day.
They start off very basic. I go as a single. Sometimes to this one and sometimes to the Redondo Beach location. Other people sign up as a couple.
They move slowly and even poor dancers find themselves doing well over time. You learn everything from salsa, waltz, tango, swing, rumba, fox trot, hustle, disco two step, and more.
Most of the attendees are older (like 45 and up), but there are a few of us in our 20s and 30s. Regardless, it’s great exercise, and you feel really confident on any dance floor after just a few series of lessons.

Remember, you don’t have to come in as a couple. There are plenty of singles in the class too. Even when you come as a couple, as a beginner, you are often split and assigned to a more advance student so you don’t make mistakes together.
And, if you’re like us, where schedules change from one week to another. We love how the class alters to our ever-​changing schedule. Thus, if we can’t make it to our regular Monday class or if we feel the need to practice a little bit more on one move we learned that week, we can join another class in the Westside/​South Bay on another night.
