Sunset Learning Studio

My review for this place is LONG overdue, which I blame primarily on my busy lifestyle. Yes, I’ve become one of those people who uses the Unilocal mobile app all the time to find good places, but rarely contributes any content. So, today, I’m going to change that.
Our son has been taking piano lessons at Sunset Learning Studio for two and a half years now. We first tried the Redondo Beach School of Dance and Music, but didn’t care for it (the walls of the lesson rooms were surprisingly thin, and the whole thing just had a factory feel to it). So then we cast around and found a very small school that had just opened in North Redondo: Sunset Learning Studio!
Our son took to his Sunset piano teacher immediately, and over time, we realized that this was no accident. All of the teachers employed by Sunset are incredibly personable and great with kids (not to mention very talented, as they occasionally demonstrate when the school holds teacher concert nights). The owners themselves are extremely personable and great with kids, too, and this creates a very positive and encouraging atmosphere for the students.
The school holds performance nights once a month where the kids can perform before a small audience of peers and parents. We’ve posted some of our son’s performances on FB, and the general consensus is that he’s learning very quickly. But honestly, his skill level is not even that important to me. What’s most important in my mind is that he develop a love of playing music. Listening to music is great, but being able to play it, now that takes a person to another level of existence. While I’m biased – after all, I majored in music and obviously hold it in great regard – I want my son to share in the sublime experience of being able to play music. And with Sunset’s instruction, he’s well on that road.
Perhaps the greatest testament to Sunset’s instruction and the positive atmosphere they create for their students is this: *** Our son will often practice on his own. *** Not every day, and I’m not saying we don’t have to remind him ever, but he does, at least several times a week, just walk over and switch on the electronic keyboard and start practicing on his own. He’s even more likely to do this at Grandma’s, because she has a real piano sitting in the middle of the living room and nothing beats the feel of a real piano.
I am grateful that our son enjoys music, and obviously likes the piano enough to spontaneously play it without our asking sometimes. I am sure some of his affinity is a result of the positive atmosphere and excellent instruction he receives at Sunset, and for that reason, I’m giving them a huge 5-​stars of gratitude. I’m so glad Sunset opened in our neighborhood (now with two locations in Redondo Beach) and we look forward to many more years of making music together! :-)
P. S. One last thing: Although most of Sunset’s students are young, they’re not just for kids. They also have adult students, and adult performance nights. For those who love listening to music and have always wondered what it would be like to play, Sunset offers a great place to give it a try!

Sunset Learning Studio is the perfect place for music. You can take pretty much anything there and the staff is wonderful. Guitar, piano, singing, etc. The staff is patient, knowledgeable, fun to chat with and always helping the student learn and grow. Open mic night is really fun where students, young and old, perform what they know.
I recommend this studio to anyone in the South Bay who wants a great place to learn music and hang out with musicians and creative souls…

We decided to try this location out because it’s within walking distance of our home. We signed our 4 year old up for private piano lessons. Her instructor is beyond patient, rewards our daughter with stickers to keep up the motivation, continually takes two steps back to ensure that our daughter remembers and understands what she is learning. This place has the real «mom and pop shop» feel, with the professionalism of a corporate school. From the owners to the instructors, sincerely, the nicest people! Reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
