Judy C. Chen, DDS MSD MPH

Dr. Chen is the best orthodontist I have used for my two children. I used a different doctor for my oldest and he was no where near as nice, knowledgeable, and affordable as Dr. Chen. I plan on taking my youngest to her. You are always seen on time no waiting and all the staff are very nice. I am very pleased with my experience there.

Dr. Judy Chen and her staff are all super awesome! I came from California and had already started my braces down there but moved up to Washington while I still had them on. Her employee Michelle referred me to her and Dr. Judy Chen was more than willing to finish my treatment so I may have the smile and beautiful straight teeth that I always wanted. They always fit me in to work around my work schedule. Dr. Judy Chen never gave me false hope as to when my braces would come off. She was honest about the time frame and what to expect with the coming months during treatment. She is very knowledgeable, swift, and kind. I enjoyed going to the office for my appointments. I am really going to miss going there now that I have my braces off. If you’re looking into getting your braces or getting braces for children, you must schedule an appointment with Dr. Judy Chen! She will not disappoint you and will make sure to give you the best smile you or your children will ever have :)

We love Dr. Judy and her staff! My husband had his braces with Dr. Judy and recently finished treatment. I love the personal feel of this office. It is just Dr. Judy and her small staff, so you feel like a valued customer. Dr. Judy has amazing credentials and many years of experience, yet she is so approachable and friendly that it makes for a collaborative feel to the doctor-​patient relationship. Holly at the front desk is helpful, always sweet and very organized. The new office was renovated in the last couple of years and is always immaculate, and has a light and fresh décor.
Dr. Judy does a great job with the congratulatory «debanding» goodie bags which contain formerly forbidden treats for when you get your braces off. It’s a small thing, but one of many thoughtful touches that are really memorable and set this practice apart from others. I would highly recommend.

We had a great experience with Dr Chen and her staff when my daughter had braces last year. Dr Chen is very knowledgeable (she has degrees from MIT, Harvard, Columbia and UW!) and explained everything thoroughly, so our expectations on cost and time were clearly established. She and her staff were always timely, friendly and kind. Since then we have lost and broken two retainers and have gotten replacements quickly. My daughter is so thrilled with her new smile. After my dentist recommended I see an orthodontist because of my TMJ pain (from grinding my teeth, which was a result of my bite being off), I saw Dr. Chen based on word of mouth. She fixed my bite with Invisalign in less than a year – I did 8 months for my initial alignment, and then less than 4 more for an adjustment.
Dr. Chen is very personable and great at explaining what she’s doing and communicating the plan for treatment. My visits were always on time or even early (as soon as I arrived), and she even mailed me my trays and retainer after I moved out of the area. Her offices in Redmond and Kirkland are clean, modern, and have easy parking. Her staff is courteous, professional, and accommodating. One time I drove to the wrong office and eventually showed up over half an hour late but they were still able to squeeze me in and were extremely nice about it.
I’m happy to report that not only do I get compliments on my teeth, but my TMJ is better because I no longer grind them in my sleep!

Brought my son in to see her for an exam. He had gotten it into his head that his teeth looked funky. Dr Chen took a look and told me that his spacing was normal at his age, no crowding or need for braces at this point. Being the doting mother that I am, I would have immediately signed up if I had been told to do it. Plus my son was ready to go! I appreciate that she was being honest with me and not not selling me something that I didn’t need.

Dr. Chen is wonderful! We have had three kids get braces here so far and have never had a problem. She and her staff are very professional and skilled. We would highly recommend her to anybody looking for orthodontic work.

I think that Dr. Judy Chen is one of the best Orthodontists. She’s patient, knowledgeable and very personable. I chose her because of her impressive education… graduated from MIT, Harvard, and Columbia! And I trust her completely with my children’s orthodontic treatments.

Love Judy Chen orthodontics! the atmosphere is always positive! Everyone in that office is great at their job! They handle carefully and get the job done right, it’s fast and easy! I travel a long way to make it to there office but that’s because I know they’re the best! We love Dr. Judy! We were referred to her 4 – 5 yrs ago by my kids’ pediatric dentist, who we trust and adore (Dr. Lombardi, at Eastside Pediatric Dentists, in Issaquah. She also referred us to an amazing endodontist who performed an emergency, complicated root canal on my kid last winter during a blizzard, too. See my in-​depth review of Dr. Lombardi).
What do we love about Dr. Judy? Well, for starters, she began seeing my kid years ago for complimentary, annual evaluations. My kid’s mouth was messed up, but still growing and changing, and baby teeth were all still in place. Whereas many of my friends’ kids’ orthodontists were pushing hard for them to get «early intervention» and VERY pricey orhthodontia right then and there, Dr. Judy took her time to evaluate my kid, examine lots of x-​rays, confer with our dentist and the endodontist, too, and she repeatedly told us to wait another year, until certain changes and shifts had taken place. She said there was a chance some teeth could shift into place as the jaw was still growing. I really appreciated her taking the time, and her «wait and see» approach, as opposed to the «let’s do all this intervention right now!» philosophy, the latter which seems to prevail in the orthodontia world.
This year, Dr. Judy recommended that my kid get braces. We suspected this day was coming when teeth weren’t shifting into place enough. She referred us to an oral surgeon who will have to perform minor surgery on my kid. The whole approach makes sense to us, and looking up this surgeon’s references here on Unilocal,as well as his credentials online, I feel very confident that we’re in excellent hands (the surgeon is Dr. Crinzi).
Speaking of credentials, if you look up Dr. Judy’s online, you might be as impressed as I was and still am. She has a multitude of degrees from the most prestigious universities and has even been voted one of the best orthodontists by Seattle Magazine three years running.
I like how the staff is kind and gentle with my kid, and how Holly took the time to do all the legwork with both my dental insurance plan as well as my hubby’s. They offer a few different payment plans, too, so as to make the financial aspect of all this as painless as possible.
I’ll let you all know how the end result is, as the kid is getting braces later this week. But so far, in the 4 or 5 years we’ve been going to this office, we’ve had nothing but great experiences here.

I began the process of getting orthodontic treatment for my kid with Dr. Chen because I saw she has excellent qualifications, but I decided on a different orthodontist. I think Dr. Chen would have been OK, but a number of issues put me off. During the consultation meeting, Dr. Chen seemed like she was in a hurry and the consultation process seemed disorganized. She told me one of the options was «not ideal», but I later found out it was not possible at all. I want more direct answers. She referred us to a periodontist to guide the decision on tooth extraction. It turned the better strategy was palate expansion before assessing the tooth extraction issue. Most of my phone messages were not answered. They never followed up with the results of the referral.
