History

Established in 1994.

John Dill introduced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to Shasta County in 1994, shortly after moving from Southern California. He had a vision of planting the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu seed in his new home, and watching it grow. As he once said everyone was just fumbling around trying to learn various grappling techniques. I wanted to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu the way I learned it– the right way. Today the seed has grown into Amazonas Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Meet the Business Owner

Tanner R.

Business Owner

Tanner Rice, the third of five brothers, started training in the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu when he was five years old. He was always a fast learner and an excellent athlete at anything he tried. Tanner spent many hours out on the back porch of the house, training with his dad and brothers. Beginning at the age of eight, he began teaching his younger brothers and at the age of 14, he became the Kids’ Class Instructor at a local Brazilian Jiu Jjitsu academy. He was the driving force of the success at the same Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym. Tanner was one of the top competitors, and adults would come in because they heard of the 14 year-old boy submitting grown men.

Tanner began training internationally at the age of 15 with five trips to Manaus, Brazil. He would stay for at least two months each time and train seven hours a day. Each trip he would bring home championships from Brazil.

Tanner holds more then 30 gold medal in the U.S., Europe and Brazil.
