History

Established in 2011.

Erik and Shane Gustafson’s passion for wine developed over many years. It took the couple several years to find the perfect rural setting for the winery. Prior to opening the winery the couple made wine in their garage.

I’m a native of Orlando, FL. Erik and I met at Purdue in Indiana where I was attending school for Engineering. We developed a passion for wine together. In 2005 we started making wine in our garage and basement. I decided to take winemaking class through UC Davis online. We also donated our time on weekends to a couple of local wine stores where we met a lot of great people, tasted some fabulous wines, and learned a lot about wine. After searching for several years Erik and I finally found the perfect spot for our winery in 2010. I currently work full time at the winery attending to all business matters.

I am a proud mother of two wonderful children. Whom you may see around the winery from time to time. You may also see our dogs Cody, Abbey, & Jewel. They are our family pets and also mascots for the winery.

I am also a Wellness Advocate for doTERRA essential oils. I love to share these all natural products which have made so many positive changes in my life.

I came here around 2pm on a Saturday with my parents and the place was packed! It seems like there were a lot of party busses full of people in their early 20’s coming here. We ended up ordering the wine and chocolate pairing in which you get 4 wines with chocolate for $ 5. In my opinion, it wasn’t a legit «chocolate tasting» considering there were only a total of about 4 or 5 different chocolates for the many wines that they offered. The wine and chocolate were just mediocre in my opinion, my mom enjoyed her sweet wine, but my dad didn’t like the red wine he tried. They did have a white wine that was served warm, like a cider, that was really tasty and we all thought it was the best.
The bartender was nice, but she seemed a tad bit overwhelmed and really rushed through everything. We might have enjoyed our experience more, but the place was just so packed and loud with a party crowd that my parents wanted to leave.

I stopped in for a wine and chocolate pairing today.
I tried their sweet Diamond paired with a key lime white chocolate first. Since it’s been a week I can’t say how well their Diamond measures up to the Diamond at Honeymoon Trail Winery, but it’s probably comparable: sweet but full bodied. I normally dislike white chocolate, but I enjoyed that, too.
Next I tried Rasp-o-dy in Blue, a blend of Niagara, Concord and raspberry wine. It had almost an old fashioned quality to it. One of those wines I feel like I should be wearing lace to drink. It was paired with (I think) a milk chocolate infused with cherry and raspberry.
Finally I tried the cherry sunburst, which is another blend of grape wines (forget which) and cherry wine. It was good, but I probably would have been underwhelmed if not for the cranberry white chocolate pairing.
According to their website, they want a family friendly environment and provide snacks and non alcoholic beverages as well. They also host weddings and other events.

White wines are tasty. The tasting room is cozy with a fire and a very nice lounge area upstairs. I am thinking you could bring your own cheese/baguette and buy a bottle (or 2) of wine and sit in the lounge for a while — there are games and books and a nice view. They do have a fridge with a few cheese selections and some other snacks. In the summer they apparently have events on the grounds which are nice. The owners are fantastic people and I wish them well.

We stopped in last winter during our weekend of wine tasting on our way back from Niagara Falls, and it was a delight. The wine and chocolate pairings were a nice touch and we enjoyed the wines very much. Only negative was a couple (I believe locals) were pretty much getting to 3^rd base right there in the tasting room! Cannot fault the vineyard for that but it was a little un-nerving! We laughed it off and enjoyed our wines. When leaving I got to say Hello to the cute furry friends as well. A nice place to enjoy some wine and meet some pups!

These guys have it all together! Good wine, good people, love the wine and chocolate pairings — perfect! The special concerts out under the tent are beautiful also. We have brought many out of town guests here to enjoy with us. It’s always the last stop on our tour because we like to linger!

Amazing experience! The wine tasting was great. We got the wines paired with chocolate and my friend which doesn’t like wines loved it. The pairing is perfect. The staff was super nice. The outdoor is beautiful will be perfect for a wedding (I’m not sure if they rent the place). I will definitely be back and will recommended to anyone in the area.

Friendly staff, cool atmosphere, and affordable. $ 4 for 4 tastings or $ 5 for four tastings paired with chocolates. The grounds are beautiful, so go out back after your visit and sit by the pond! Great for groups too! I would highly recommend this place.

Never a bad experience here! Highly recommend doing the wine and chocolate pairing. Everyone is very friendly and they have some of the best wine on the Niagara Wine Trail. Dry diamond is my favorite!

Gust of Sun is easily one of the best, if not THE BEST, winery in Niagara. For only $ 5, you get 5 tastings paired with chocolate! And the chocolate is not just regular plain chocolate, it is from a specialty shop called «Stuffed Chocolates» and they have so many delicious flavors. The wines were all delicious and I liked every one that I tried. We came with a group of 21 people and the owners were so accommodating and laid back. They were welcoming and friendly. They have three cute westies on the property too — which greatly influence their wine names!
Their electricity happened to be out while we were there, so they gave us all discounts on bottles of wine — score! Their bottles of wine were on average $ 16/$ 17 a bottle. A little pricier than the previous wineries we visited, but worth it. I bought a bottle of the dry Three Westies White.
They have a lounge upstairs that can be rented out for private parties. My mom booked one for her clients next month and since I also work with my mom, I get to go! Can’t wait to return!
