Jancis Robinson, in her book, The Oxford Companion to Wine, (First Edition), noted that «the Niagara Escarpment reminded her of Volnay and in the right locations should make wine of similar quality». Jancis Robinson also said in her book, American Wine, «…Arrowhead Spring Vineyards does a fine job with Pinot Gris and Chardonnay grapes grown in the AVA, and its red wines– Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Pinot Noir, and Syrah-…» this region is definitely one that you should have on your «watch» (and «taste») lists!

Bus and Limousine Groups Please Note:

In order to provide all of our guests an optimal experience, we require all bus and limousine groups to make a reservation by calling the winery a week in advance. We will not accept any group that is drinking on their bus or limousine. Please respect this policy — there are plenty of wineries that specialize in accommodating party groups — we are just not one of them.

The soils are neutral acidity, limestone based clay that were at one time a sea bed. Glacial deposits and sea fossils are everywhere in this rich, fertile soil. The soils and climate are similar to Burgundy, but different weather patterns prevail, allowing a wider range of grapes to be grown.

The Viticultural Area (AVA) derives its name from the Niagara Escarpment, a limestone ridge that runs for more than 650 miles through the Great Lakes region. he special influence Lake Ontario imparts on a tiny 18 mile section of the Niagara Escarpment, in Niagara County New York creates a unique micro-climate, which in combination with a unique soil, makes wine of Grand Cru status possible. This is the Niagara Escarpment American Viticultural Area.
