History

Established in 1989.

We had a grooming shop in Ranch Bernardo for 15 years called Kim’s Kritters and customers kept asking us to take care and board their dogs.

So in 1989 we found 18 acres and built a facility with large air conditioned/​heated runs in the country.

We have raised and shown Great Pyrenees since 1977 and do Great Pyrenees Rescue also.

Business Owner

Jim & Kim have raised, shown and do rescue for Great Pyrenees since 1977. Also do Education at dog shows «Meet the Breed» and at schools on dog safety and about Great Pyrenees.

Kim has also written a book «The New Owners Guide to Great Pyrenees» and has been a Professional Groomer since 1980.

I have been boarding our dog with Jim & the Kritter Kamp team for a few months now and now have no need to look anywhere else. Kritter Kamp has had availability every time we have called and their pickup and dropoff service is extremely convenient. Overall their prices are better than any other kennel I researched in San Diego. They don’t upsell you on the «extras» I consider to be standard such as a second daily feeding and exercise. Our dog comes home happy everytime we board her at Kritter Kamp and I am very grateful to not have to worry about her when we’re gone because I know that she is in good hands.

We have boarded our Pug with Kim and Jim for the lat 10 years. When Jim comes to pick him up he literally runs into the van and Jim tells us he is part of their family when he is with them. Based on the reaction of our dog this is true. Our dog has been well cared for everytime. We have no worries about or pet when we are away.

We sent our large dog here for a weekend while we were out of town and he was well taken care of. Staff was friendly and professional and all went smooth. Prices are very afforable and especially liked the pick-​up and drop-​off.

We used to board our golden retriever (Murphy) here when we would take family vacations. Kritter Kamp was very convenient because they would even come pick him up at our house so we wouldn’t have to drive all the way up to Ramona. While the facilities are pretty nice here for a dog kennel and the place is fairly well maintained, I had never seen Murphy react as negatively to anyone as he did to the man who came to pick him up, and I wonder if it’s because the guy was a bit rough with him when he put him in the cage. We’ve used another kennel service in addition to this one and Murphy never seemed to have any behavioral issues with the people who ran the other kennel, and he would never hurt a fly so we were always a bit skeptical about what was going on here.
I would check this place out first and then check out Country Kennels in Lakeside and see which one you like better.

I used Jim’s services to board my dog Dharma while vacationing in Tucson over a 7 day span. I was happy with the service at all levels: communication, reliability, feeding of dogs, quality of facilities. Jim provides private dog runs for each dog with plenty of walking space and an enclosed shelter. Dogs do not co-​mingle, so there is no risk of fights. The telling factor was the mood of my dog when I picked her up. While she was happy to see me, she was equally enthusiastic about saying goodbye to her caretakers that she got to know during her short stay. It was obvious to me that they took good care of her. Giving Dharma a complimentary bath was also a nice touch. Prices are reasonable at $ 23/​night.

they are awesome! i know several people who use them and their dogs RUN into the pickup van. i’ve also had a very picky friend do a «surprise visit» to check out the facility and she only had the nicest things to say!
