Dance Matrix

If you care about your child’s dance recital DO NOT take them here. They won’t allow photos or video, which might have been fine if they hadn’t hired the worst videographers in the world. Now we’re left with nothing that’s worth showing to family members (blurry, out of focus video from a long distance away). They overcrowded the theatre which was too small for the number of students and parents they needed to accommodate. It was sold out. Luckily my wife and I bought our tickets right when they announced them but soon after that, they were sold out and any grandparents that wanted to come were out of luck. Unfortunately, we spent hundreds of dollars so our daughters could practice for a recital that was poorly planned, poorly executed, and now won’t be available to enjoy with family members that couldn’t make it. I really hope they get their act together. We have pulled our daughters out and they will be going somewhere else.

I recently enrolled in beginning ballroom dance class at Dance Matrix. I have no prior dance experience, no partner and limited coordination. I imagined that my moves would resemble those of a circus bear. The staff at Dance Matrix has been very helpful in explaining the enrollment process. I completed information online as well as submitting the $ 25 registration fee via pay pal. For one class, the monthly fee is $ 44.00, which I thought was reasonable for four or five one hour lessons per month (depending on the month).
If you look at the web site, Dance Matrix offers more than 50 styles of dance and has several instructors. I chose the beginning ballroom, which rotates between Salsa, Swing, Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Rhumba. I was nervous because of my limited experience and I did not know the experience level of the other students. What if they have been in this class and practicing for several weeks?!
I felt very comfortable with the company and the instructor. We focused on the swing and he quickly reviewed the basic steps that others have already learned. There were only 3 other students in the class and the instructor. That provided good individualized attention and he went slow enough with good explanations so that I could at least make a good attempt. I am sure it looked bad, but not bad enough to feel uncomfortable. We switched partners so that we had experience with each person in the class.
Nice class size, comfortable environment and individualized attention –I really enjoyed the experience and will focus on practicing and improving my efforts for the next class.
