History

Established in 2008.

My training career actually started with people not dogs. Certified in health and fitness, I designed private workouts for busy men & women.

In 2001 I took my puppy Cody, to a group class and I was hooked.

I knew I had stumbled upon my new passion & career.

I enjoyed teaching group classes for years, while I continued my practical training and education… And then came Emmy my 6wk. old aussie. Wow, was she a wild one. Long story short, Emmy had fear & aggression issues that forced me to become a better trainer.

Had I used force based training and the misunderstood dominance propaganda to fix her, I’m certain we wouldn’t have the relationship we have today.

After going through the battles and frustrations with Em, and coming out on the other end with a great dog and buddy, I decided I wanted to embark on a more customized type of dog training.

Hence, Manners Unleashed was born.

I’ve enjoyed the journey & look forward to working with you and your dogs in the future.

My goal when I established Manners Unleashed In-​Home Training & Private Boarding was to offer more customized solutions for owners when it comes to their dogs’ needs.

I have found that pet dog training done in your home is a more effective approach to having a well behaved member of the family. Group classes work fine for some, but not every dog thrives in that sort of environment and many complex issues are not addressed.

My commitment to continued education has been steady and unwavering, along with my committment to professional service. I want to make sure I am prepared and competent when I walk through your door.

My Private Boarding is an alternative I decided to offer for owners like myself that simply could not leave their pets in a mass boarding facility.

We had the most amazing experience with this company! Our youngest schnauzer has been so unbearable… the jumping, barking, whining, nervousness, etc… I seriously considered finding a home for him. We sent him to boot camp for 3 days and I didn’t recognize him when we picked him up. Chris did amazing work with our little guy. She gave us all the tips and showed us the techniques so we could maintain his behavior. Thank you so much it was a great experience!!@

Chris at Manners Unleashed has been our Cesar of the Northwest. She, in three days took our cockapoo, Georgie, from a not very socialized adopted 2 yr old to a dog who didn’t know what to do, to a dog who had fun running and playing, and ACTING like a dog.
Of course we had our homework to do, but he’s a different dog.
We also boarded him last spring. It’s a positive experience for your pet. Instead of being confined in a kennel with not much exercise or interaction with people and other dogs, she treats your beloved pet as she does her own pets. They have cozy beds in the family room and lots of exercise in her very secure, fenced large yard. I swear if they could talk, they would tell you to go away more often because they have so much fun.
One other extremely helpful thing Chris did was turn an awful picky eater, who my husband would try coaxing him by to eat, adding bits of «people food», convinced if he missed a meal would whither away. Chris suggested a food we had not known about. While boarding, she gave it to him along with her dogs. And he LOVES it. We no longer have to coax him to eat. We simply give him the appropriate amount in the morning and dinner time. His bowl is in our kitchen and we no longer pay attention to his eating. He just eats it. No muss, no fuss, and he has actually lost a few needed pounds.
Even though we live about a half hour away, it’s totally worth the drive. We would still have Georgie visit Manners Unleashed if we had to drive even further! It’s wonderful to be able to leave your loved pet in the care of someone you trust is taking the same loving care as if her own.
One last side note, when you leave your dog with Manner’s Unleashed, be it for training or boarding, Chris sends you little video’s so you can see how well things are going. Even our vet doesn’t go that extra mile. We hope to be able to be clients at Manner’s a long time!

Was really impressed at the outset, and got lots of great strategies for my reactive dog. As things continued to stagnate, I had to work harder to get replies about our ongoing behavior problems. A year after our first meeting, was having problems, and begging for an intervention. Over a year later, with similar problems (no blame on Manners Unleashed), I got the «good luck in your search for other solutions» e-​mail. I really felt left out in the cold, right when I really needed help.
I have recommended several friends to Chris for mild behavior problems with great results… for more persistent/​serious problems, I felt that the desire to develop ongoing change was missing and left to chance. Dealing with a reactive dog is a life-​long challenge that needs a commitment from all parties: dog, owner, and trainer.
Updates 6⁄2013: Chris contacted me several months later and did a short board and train to follow up on our request. Not very timely, but very helpful and professional.

Updating my review after two 3 day stays at Manners Unleashed for my dog, and I continue to be extremely happy! Both experiences have been great, and I really can’t say enough good things about Chris. I love that I get regular updates when I’m out of town, including videos of my little girl exploring outside, and honest feedback from Chris on how she’s doing. I’ve been amazed with how comfortable and relaxed my dog is when I come to pick her up, and it’s obvious that she had a good time, not a traumatic one. Chris & Manners Unleashed have been a lifesaver for me, and I can’t recommend her enough!

I’ve never boarded — never even considered boarding as the last thing I’d ever do to my little guy is put him in jail while I go play. That’s just cruel and in my book, not an option. At best I leave my little chihuahua with my own mom and let him have a weekend at grandma’s. However, my mom lives on a lake that has an amazing fireworks show on the 4th of July, but fireworks are an issue for my little Taco. After discussions at home on how to try to make it a good experience for everyone this year we landed on boarding (sedating wasn’t an option either in my book) and I’d met Chris at the Farmers’ Market in Puyallup and instantly thought of her as I knew they only boarded one family’s dogs at a time and that meant something to me. Somehow that day was available and we arranged a timeline that would get Taco acclimated before the scary loud things started to give him every advantage possible for the holiday. Since I was a disaster dropping off my ‘baby’ Chris offered to send some video and sure enough, I was treated to seeing my little guy starting to warm up with the other dogs and I was thrilled to see my little ten pound guy not even shying away from Chris’ big dogs. I cannot recommend Manners Unleashed enough — call her and I promise you’ll end that conversation with a sense of peace and knowing that your dog will be spoiled and loved as one of her own — and in the meantime they might even come home with a few more manners. :) This was a wonderful experience and I got to pick up a doggie that missed me, but obviously had a fun too. What a treat!

Awesome. Can’t believe what Chris she for our dog. She worked wonders on our dog. She is very well rounded with every dog, never met anyone who didn’t own a bulldog who knew had to handle them so well.
My dog is so much better on the leash now. She gives simple instructions, that really works. She’ll tell you something and you’ll sit there and go DUH why didn’t I think of that.
I will recommend this program to anyone.

maverick is doing great! thanks to MANNERS UNLEASHED dog training. chris is awesome and comes to my house to work with my golden retreiver one-​on-​one. she goes over all the things he has learned weekly so i can work with him too. he isn’t running off like he used to and is getting better at coming when called. he sits almost immediately when told to. i am really glad to have found such a great trainer for him, my husband was ready to get rid of him — but now, things are looking great. the cost is very comparable to what you would pay to go to obedience classes or work with other trainers we have interviewed who still require you to learn to be a dog trainer… which i am not! yeah manners unleashed!!!
