Christiaan Salon & Day Spa

I have been going to Christiaan for more than 20 years, regularly for haircuts but also for the occasional pedicure and facial. I highly recommend it. Everyone, even with some staff changes over the years, is friendly and helpful. Relaxed atmosphere, complimentary coffee and cookies, never a wait– at most 5 minutes. Carol has been my hair stylist since Bill (former owner) retired and she gives a great haircut, is a wonderful, lovely woman. We always have a a good conversation, about family, politics, local events. I consider her a friend by now. Olga does a great pedicure and is also a very pleasant, warm and interesting person. Desiree gives a wonderful facial, very professional, confident hands, and also friendly and warm. They’ve also been helpful but not pushy when I’ve asked for advice on products or makeup. Give it a try if you’re looking for a new salon, you’ll probably not want to go anywhere else after.

I started going to this salon about a year ago and I absolutely love it. The staff is super friendly, always asking if I want tea, coffee or water. Amanda does my hair and always does an amazing job. She made me a platinum blonde and I couldn’t be happier! She’s also done my hair for two weddings and it came out great both times.

I love this salon and am so grateful to have found Carla as my hair stylist! She takes her time with clients and is incredibly talented. Carla offers wonderful suggestions for hair colors and styles. I highly recommend going to Carla!

Would like to give a higher rating because I like my stylist and Olga is the best for pedicures. Saw someone else for a pedicure and it was not great– nail polish is already coming off, several toes were not completely covered and heels are almost as rough as when I got there. Really unhappy with it.

I love Christiaan Salon. There are so many talented stylists and colorists — I often feel like Alice in Wonderland watching the magic happen around me as I’m being cared for. I’m so happy and proud to say that Melissa Gemma is my stylist. Her level of knowledge, experience and expertise is astounding! She is the caliber of professional that makes Christiaan the world class salon that it is. I always leave feeling beautiful and with the most gorgeous hair! I can’t speak highly enough of her, and recommend her without reservation. She is amazing!

The salon as beautiful and clean. I came in very hesitant after having a few bad experiences at other salons I came to Carla to fix a bad cut I had gotten elsewhere. She did a wonderful job with my cut and recommended a few products that I cant believe I have lived this long without. I will definitely be back. Carla was great, salon was great, products were great.

Went to see Carla as I am originally from RI but moved to the west coast where it is hard to find a stylist/​haircut. My hair game was in shambles :(, and Carla really made me look like a superstar. She took a good amount of time before hand to make sure I got what I really wanted, and then went above and beyond; putting exactly what she did on paper so when I got back to the east coast I explain to whomever what I needed. Apparently my fade needs to be tampered :). Very impressed with the professionalism, will be going back during the Christmas holiday. Highly recommended.

Despite my initially poor service, I gave Christiaan another chance. The owner recommended that I make an appointment with Melissa who gives great razor cuts.
I had a pleasant appointment. Melissa fixed my terrible existing cut and somehow also gave me what I wanted. I will be back.

I got my hair cut and colored here about two months ago. And although I loved the outcome of my hair… I have never had such horrible customer service. I came in about 10 minutes late for the appt and I understand that it is unacceptable to come late to an appointment, but the girl was so unbelievably rude to me when I got there that I almost just walked out, but I love my hair too much I couldn’t wait to get it done.
I immediately started apologizing when I came in for being a few minutes late and the girl did not even crack a smile and said «well since your almost 10 minutes late we usually don’t take clients, but I guess I can see what we can do with the remaining time». Well my hair appt took two and a half hours so I don’t really see how those 10 minutes made such an inconvenience.
Also I told the girl that I wanted at least 3 inches off with short layers and angles. The girl told me she would take some length off of my hair quick then start coloring my hair. So she trimmed it really quick and it was not what I wanted at all so I thought she was going to continue to cut my hair after the color. Two hours later my hair is colored and they start blow drying my hair. There was a different girl who was coloring my hair (who was actually really sweet I wish I could remember her name) so I asked her if the other girl was going to come back and cut my hair. She replied that she already did, so I was alittle confused considering she did not cut it how I said I wanted it. The girl did come back up and finish cutting my hair, but she was very rude about it the whole time.
In the end I was very happy with my haircut and color, aside from the horrible customer service. My hair was a dark brown with a purple tint and I absolutely loved the color. Although, I paid almost $ 200 for that appt so I assumed that the color would stay for at least a week. I waited three days to wash my hair, and when I did all the purple washed right out leaving my hair just a dark brown (which is my natural hair color). So I basically feel like I paid $ 200 just for a haircut.
I stupidly made another appt when I was leaving. I paid with my credit card and gave them my phone number to remind me about the appt in two months. Well they called my mothers phone (I don’t even know how they got that number) and left a message about MY appointment. My mom was in Arizona for the week so I didn’t get the message until she came back the day before the appt. As soon as I found out about it, I immediately called and canceled because I had work that morning.
Well I woke up the next day with a message on my answering machine saying that since I canceled the day before they are going ahead and charging $ 55 to my credit card for the color. I called back right away and was very nice at first and asked them if they could please not charge the $ 55 dollars considering I canceled the appt. The lady on the phone was so rude (I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same who cut my hair) I actually got into a fight with this girl over the phone. She refused to not charge me for the hair color that they didn’t even put in my hair. They already have my credit card number so there’s nothing I can do about it unless I cancel my credit card.
I explained to the girl how they didn’t even call my number and that they called my mother who was out of state so I didn’t get the message. She replied that it wasn’t her problem because it was my responsibility to remember a hair appt that was two months away. Well I clearly remember giving them my phone number and asking them to call and remind me before the appt. Well they lost my number and they did not contact me so according to them that gives them permission to basically steal 55 dollars from me. Also, when I made the appt I was not aware whatsoever that there would be a cancelation fee of 55 dollars.
The cancelation fee for a doctors visit doesn’t even come close to $ 55 so I think that the cancelation fee is way over priced and just completely ridiculous. I had to hang up on the girl because she was being so rude! Worst customer service I have ever had, I highly recommend you don’t go to this place unless you want to throw down hundreds of dollars for hair color that won’t even last a week.

Amanda cut my hair throughout college, and she is fabulous! She is attentive, takes the appropriate amount of time with everything (shampoo, cut, & style), her work is meticulous, and she will give you a cut that looks good every step of the way between haircuts – I used to ask her for a pixie, and it always grew out so well, that I would sometimes wait three months to go back and get it cut again because it looked really cute even at in-​between lengths. Definitely book with her!

I’ve been going to Christiaan for years and I absolutely love it. It is a little bit pricy but that’s the only thing I can complain about. I see Michelle for my hair and Tasha for my waxes and they are both fantastic. Also, Kerry gave me the best deep tissue message I’ve ever had. I think your experience might very based on who you see but I’m very happy with Christiaans.

I no longer get my hair done here as my locks have been recovering from the absolute worst highlights I’ve ever experienced for THREE years. My hair was Morris the Cat orange. No joke. And it’s taken me this long to calm down enough not to write a scathing review and name names. My advice? Run away.

I was recommended to see Shannon at Christian over a year ago when my hair was in dire need of help! At the time my hair was damaged, thick, poorly cut, and way too dark. In less than a few months, Shannon transformed my mangled mane into healthy, manageable hair with amazing color! She is incredibly knowledgable, gives realistic feedback about your hair ideas, and her open/​upbeat personality is refreshing. I have absolutely no reservations in recommending her to others!

I love that my coming to Christiaan to see Amanda and get my hair colored! I bring my laptop and use the salon’s complimentary free wifi so that I can get some work done while Amanda works on keeping my locks shiny and golden! I’m pretty much a frazzled mess most days but my time at Christiaan is always relaxing, indulgent, and productive!
The upstairs is set-​up so there is a communal table with loads of magazines to help pass the time if you’re not a workaholic like myself. It is really a great salon atmosphere with soft music going, ladies gabbing and discussing the latest in Providence. They also have a coffee or tea available which I think is a very nice touch and Amanda keeps me caffeinated through out the process. She is always helpful with styling tips and product information, too, but not in that pushy way that some salons I have experienced.
Having moved a lot finding a salon that you enjoy and a colorist you can trust can be trying– I’m so happy to have found Amanda and Christiaan Salon!

Christiaan’s is one of many reasons I miss being in Providence!
It’s just so hard to come by a salon that does such an excellent job with cutting and styling short hair — specifically, Melissa! I’m never comfortable getting chatty when I go to get my hair cut, but Melissa always polite, charming, and respectful and never made me feel obligated to talk, besides asking me specific questions about how I wanted my hair cut.
I noticed some of the reviews talks about bad receptionist experiences — there was one time the receptionist scheduled me on a day that the salon was closed, but I have had no other problems beside that one instance. Granted, I lived within walking distance!
Price wise — around $ 40 for a women’s short hair cut (with tip). For a college student, it burned a a slight hole in my pocket, but well worth it for a haircut of that high quality!

I followed Desiree Perez to Christiaan years ago. She does an outstanding job as a nail tech, esthetician and makeup artist. She is a perfectionist who takes her time and ensures that you always look and feel your very best. Her gel manicures are second to none!
Yesterday, I got clip-​in, custom dyed ombré hair extensions by Sacha. Sacha took hours to get the color match absolutely perfect. These extensions will quite simply change your life. If you need a beauty boost/​splurge, your ideal day would be a gel mani by Desiree and customized clip-​in extensions by Sacha. Do it… and prepare to be transformed.

I really want to like this place because it’s only 5 minutes away but I am afraid I can’t because I am super picky about my hair, the stylist and how I’m treated at a salon as a consumer. I know it sounds very princess-​y but unlike restaurants who get second chances, I have limited tolerance towards bad haircuts.
I have a similar experience with other Unilocalers below, the receptionist isn’t the friendliest. I made an appointment on the phone and the receptionist made it sound like it was almost impossible to get my name on their books and that they chose me rather than I picked them. Seriously now, you are a hair salon. When I showed up for the appointment, the receptionist acted more superior than she was and treated me as belittling as possible (maybe because I was new there). For some odd reason, I quickly saw past that but I kept thinking to myself, do I have to talk to unfriendly people every time I call back for an appointment? mmm…
I got assigned to a stylist and she did not listen to what I said. I don’t like when stylists think they know what’s best for you (ok sometimes they do) but my basic rule for a stylist is to listen to what I want for MY hair. She didn’t listen so of course, surprise surprise, my hair was not trimmed and styled the way I wanted.
I won’t go back. It was not a pleasant experience from start to finish. There are better alternatives out there.

My go-​to place for waxing. Professional. Comfortable. Quality. Have referred others many times. Only tricky part is scheduling because days of week are limited.

If I could give it 3.5 I would.
The pros is that I always find parking even though its in Providence and they always run on time for appointments. Also I have yet to have a bad haircut. Now I wouldnt say they are awesome, but for the price it is definitely worth it.
The problem I had was that both receptionists were not very friendly. They both seemed like I was wasting their time and they had better things to do. I would like to remind them that they are the last people a customer sees before leaving and you want that to be a good experience, not a bad one.

As a recent resident of Providence, I’ve had to find several news go-​to places for different things: burgers, bars (still looking), books, beauty. Ha! I didn’t mean to alliterate, but I did! Anyway, while I loved my salon in Boston, the rising prices and the length of time it would go there for a service just didn’t make sense. When I realized Christiaan was just a short walk from my home AND in a purple building, I thought I’d try it out.
My first appointment was with Sacha, who helped me get my brown hair back after a year of dying it different shades of red. She gave me a quick trim and really turned my hair into something I love. She was incredibly friendly and we had a nice chat about different things to do around Providence and all the private stuff you talk about with your stylist. I immediately booked my appointment and I am so excited to go back in a couple weeks to finalize my red-​to-​brown transition!
In preparation for a job interview coming up, I made an appointment for a mani and pedi with Olga. Three words: I. Love. Olga. But first, the services.
The pedicure was hands down the best pedicure I have ever had. You keep your feet in the spa water for 15 minutes and you are left to relax and enjoy. Then you get the usual treatment: trimming, filing, buffing, etc. I don’t think anyone has ever spent so much time exfoliating and buffing my feet before. After another round in the tub and an aloe-​wrap, it was time for the food and calf massage, followed by the painting. My toenails have never looked or felt this great before.
The manicure was equally great. I have really small nails and I like to keep them short. Olga did a great job working with my short nails and they look beautiful. Olga may have also convinced me to quit my nail biting. I know, it’s gross and you shouldn’t do it because it’s bad for your nails and teeth and the skin around the nails. But Olga told me the worst part about biting are the germs beneath your nails. Ew! I never though about that! She said you don’t even want to know what can live underneath your nails, and I think she may have officially made me kick my habit. Beautiful nails and a break through! She’s a miracle worker!
I also just had a really great conversation with Olga, and I’m absolutely going to rebook an appointment if only to have a few minutes to talk again. She’s adorable and so sweet!
In short, you really have to try Christiaan Salon. I have every intention of trying all the services they provide, and when I do, I will be sure to come back and update this review with five stars :)
