Hinzerling Winery

I feel bad writing such a terrible review but this place is absolutely terrible. The owner apparently is a professor at the local community college and his «tasting room» is a musty old garage that looks like a laboratory with all kinds of bottle and devices on it. LOL.
The first wine we tried was a 1994 cab sav which tasted awful. My grandma and I took a sip and just looked at each other… oh goes we were in for it… the Three Muses red blend was drinkable and he had a bunch of the sweet wines which I can’t stand in general. Thank gawd there was a dump bucket.
After seeing the state of the wine shop I could only imagine what their B&B would be like and I would just stay away from both at all costs. Like Lisa W. said, they definitely march to the beat of their own drum.

A small, friendly room that isn’t pretentious like these big /​fancy /​expensive wineries you see now.

Hinzerling Winery marches to the beat of their own drum. We were told that they’ve been making wine in the location since 1976 so they must know what they’re doing. Pulling up, we noticed it was fairly old school. An old style farmhouse, also serving as a B&B that they operate, next to a large garage that serves as their winery/​tasting room. Upon arriving, my boyfriend seemed skeptical, but I had the opposite impression… I knew it would be a unique wine-​tasting experience. We skipped the whites and went on to try their rose, pinot noir and lemberger. Then it was dessert wines galore. I tried their white port, sherry, and about 4 ports. Whew, by the time we left, I was feeling pretty good. We were told that they were the first winery in Washington state to make port. They were really fun to talk to, a bit of that old-​man-​dry-​wit, keeping us on our toes (which was a challenge after tasting that much fortified wine). They gave very small pours which was extremely appropriate considering how much of it was dessert oriented. I bought a bottle of the Ruby Port. Beautiful wine dog, Brandy, also kept us company.
