History
Established in 1995.
Apex Cellars was founded in 1988 in the Yakima Valley. Known as a premium label, Apex is lauded for its Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Catalyst Red Blend, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay. Winemaker Jon Zimmerman believes Apex has the best of both worlds: New World Washington State fruit and a commitment to Old World-style winemaking. His use of French oak for a buttery Chardonnay and bold, round reds for which Apex is beloved results in cellar-worthy wines each year. Its sister winery, Willow Crest Wine Estates, is best known for its estate-produced aromatic white wines, with grapes from the Minick Estate Vineyard in the heart of Prosser in the Yakima Valley AVA. The Minicks are third generation Washington Growers and founding winemaker Dave Minick began planting vinifera with his father in 1982 (before the area was officially the Yakima Valley). Soaring acclaim and being one of the first known winemakers to make a standalone Pinot Gris in the state quickly made Willow Crest a standout.
