Brookside Cafe

First off it is now Goldricks Brookside Café and has been for a few years now. The owner Brian is super nice and always helpful with drink selection and food recommendations. All of the bartenders here are the same way, very helpful and pleasant to talk to. The weekends get very busy especially Friday and Saturday night, but they always are on top of service. Check out the food specials since those change weekly. My girlfriend and I go here at least once or twice a week and always have a great time!!!

Went here twice — gave it a second chance because locals said it’s «better the second time» — had the same male bartender both times. Prices aren’t bad, food isn’t terrible, but my god service sucks!!! Is this how y’all do it up north??? Dance floor was empty, the bartender would not let me have my card back until I gave him another one (halfway understandable) but VERY rude about it. We paid for an extra round — it was too busy to complain — very dissatisfied. Wish I could have at least drank the extra round I paid for. Literally some of the worst service I have ever had. The girl bartender walked up to us halfway through the night once she noticed our drinks were empty, so thanks for that — but whoever the guy was, we are not fond of you. No names, no mention of specials, no hospitality at all: maybe that’s how y’all do it in Connecticut tho.

These idiots all complain about BS. Let’s start with bigotry:
The owners were never bigoted. They kicked out tow black guys for humping each other on the floor in the middle of the goddamn bar. People walked out because it was low brow even for the regulars. They kicked those two out which caused a HUGE uproar with people calling them racists and gay-​haters. It was a load of crap and the boycott didn’t do any good at all because the regulars who knew everyone there knew it was crap. They started screening problem customers out and people said they were racists because of it. There was no winning.
There is now new management because of all that crap. A shame. He wasn’t a terrible guy like people made him out to be. Moot point.
The bartenders are hit or miss. I know of two that are AWESOME and I go on Wednesdays just to see one of them. Fun girl, she is. Whoever is complaining about a tall bartender is just a twat. How stupid. So long as they make good drinks for a decent price, there’s nothing wrong with this place. Most the bartenders I’ve seen over the years have been perfectly capable with a few exceptions that are removed rather quickly.
Mechanical bulls are mechanical bulls. Same story anywhere. Still always amusing.
Why people complain about it is beyond me. They’re classic bar patrons and you can pick out who’s got a boy-​toy hanging around pretty easily. If you can’t, then you should follow the golden bar rule and just not get involved with shady-​skanks. universal bar problem solved.
With their 4 pool tables I rarely have to worry about getting a table AND they have a designated lounge area by the deck that overlooks the water that has a bunch of seats and beer pong always set up. Parking is always easy because they have two lots to use. One in back and one across the street in front of the place.
As far as bars in the area goes, this is one of the better ones that everyone knows. It gets a bad rep from snobs and non-​locals and those morons who believe whatever they hear on Facebook. This place is great and I go back regularly. Their beer pong tourneys actually pay out too!

this is a fun roadside bar/​club we found by accident about 3 years ago on rte 2 on the way from mohegan to foxwoods. we had such a great time, with cheap shots and a big outside deck that we always remembered it. last night we were thinking of a place to go for new years eve that wouldn’t be too pricey or fancy but would still be a great time. we remembered this place so we went, and it was the perfect fun party atmosphere. mixed clientele and generally a good time. free champagne at midnight and free new years hats. i haven’t tried any food here but i hear it’s good.

Little kids run the bar. Kids behind the bar making their own drinks… If I was 21 y/​o this would be fun.

I agree with Daniel S. This place would have gotten 4 – 5 stars from me in the past but it has definitely gone down hill hard. There used to be a lot of girls who were friendly and talked to you without you having to worry about her «baby-​daddy» picking a pointless fight with you. The DJ used to be this crazy old fat dude with a long white wig that played pretty decent music, now the new DJ plays 99% r&b and rap, which of course pushed away the normal friendly people and brought in the trouble. Now a lot of guys walk around with a chip on their shoulder there like they are the dictionary’s definition of «thug life»… but they forget we live in CT and the concept of a gangster here is ridiculous. There are now the occasional stabbing and «gang» fight. Also the music is way, way too, loud to the point where you cannot hear yourself think, which is normal at a dance club, but brookside is far from one. The bar tenders are, in my opinion, the best part of this place. They have never done wrong by me and I have been going here for a long time. Also the mechanical bull and fat chick thing is all but, too true… it’s like a magnet for fat chicks wearing mini skirts *shutters*. Good location, good size, great service, terrible patrons.

Idk y the guy trash this place. It’s a very good bar. Have pool tbl and mechanical bull. Even have ur own speaker set so u can listen in on whatever showing on tv. Only went there once and I was impressed. Never imagine from looking on the outside
