YOu get what you pay for… you get much knowledge, service and comittment with these guys. I’m quite picky and they bent over backwards to satisfy me.

Great service with a great price. They worked with me on pricing and provide excellent service at the same time. Can’t say anything bad about this establishment.

Took our mitsubishi here for a second opinion. First shop wanted to replace transmission. While they were investigating the speed sensor failure, they found rodent droppings. Pinpointed the problem to bad wiring and saved us a lot of money. Very happy with their service.

This is the best place to have transmission work done on any car you own, they also will do drive train work. They put a transmission in my 1985 Nissan 300zx in 2005 and it is still running great.

I brought my car here because I thought I was having transmission issues. They diagnosed my car and within an hour called and told me my transmission was fine and the engine cylinders were actually the issue. They sent me to Freddys across the parking lot and didn’t charge me a dime! Will comeback in a heartbeat if my transmission ever acts up

I took my Mazda3 to Poway Transmissions since my third gear in my manual transmission was slipping into neutral. Since there was a lot of damage in my transmission and it was going to be $ 2,800 to fix the problem and replace the clutch which was 95% worn, they went out of their way to find me a better deal on a used low mileage transmission for about $ 800 less. They also gave me lots of options, and they truly care about giving their customers the best possible experience.

Was quoted tons of money for a new transmission since apparently my current transmission was the cause of my car problems. Went to a different shop for a second opinion… What do you know! Transmission was fine! That’s all I have to say.

Poway Transmissions provided without a doubt the best auto repair experience I’ve had in my over 45 years of driving. These are friendly honest people providing excellent repair service at reasonable cost. My ’95 Cadillac STS transmission started to have 4^th gear over-​drive problems while driving on the 78 freeway near a Cadillac dealership in Escondido, so I took the car there. A few hours and a $ 110 diagnostic fee later, I was told that the transmission was completely coming apart inside and due to it’s age transmission repair parts weren’t available, so the only fix was installation of a rebuilt transmission at an estimated $ 4,400 cost.
After hearing this and feeling I’d just been screwed out of $ 110, with the dealership wanting much more, I went to Unilocal to find a transmission repair shop for a second opinion and found Poway Transmissions with many excellent reviews. I called them and as I did at the Cadillac dealership told them what the transmission issues were I was experiencing. They took my number and said someone familiar with Cadillac transmissions would call me right back. In less than 10 minutes, the owner called back and told me the likely cause for the issues I described was a failure of the transmission shift solenoids, which was a common problem in my transmission, but to bring it in for a free check out. I also asked about the cost of installing a rebuilt transmission if it turned out that was needed. He said if necessary they would rebuild my own transmission, not install a rebuilt, and parts availability for doing this was not an issue, as the Cadillac dealership had told me, all for about $ 1,000 less than the dealership quote.
After picking my car up from the Cadillac dealer the next day, I dropped the car off about noon at Poway Transmissions. The next morning Poway Transmissions called and confirmed the problem was the shift solenoid. I authorized the transmission repair cost of $ 469 and a little before 2 PM the same day they called to tell me the car was repaired and ready to pick up. The car is running great now and for a $ 3,931 savings over what the Cadillac dealership wanted.

I installed a brand new, from the factory, transmission into my FJ60. It was locked in a gear (had no neutral). The dealer said they would warranty the trans but would have to pay them the labor to swap it. I had run out of time to wrench on it myself to needed to take it somewhere to get resolved. I figured I’d rather give my business to a local shop than a big dealer since even if the smaller shop had to really tear into it they were looking at charging less than the dealer wanted to just swap it. Poway Transmission did their free inspection, worked some magic, go it unstuck from that gear, without removing the transmission, and charged me NOTHING!!! Outstanding, honest shop. I highly recommend them.

I highly recommend Poway Transmissions if you ever need transmission work. We brought our 2005 GMC Envoy to them recently. The diagnostic was free and they got back to us within 2 – 3 hours. They are honest, good people there. They took the time to explain everything to us before moving forward with any work. The pricing was fair and I had my car back within 2 ½ days. We would definitely recommend them to our family and friends.

Steve took great care of my wife’s car when we thought it was a transmission problem. When it turned out to be an engine misfire they asked if I wanted a good referral or if we already had a mechanic. They never charged us a dime! We took the referral and they did an awesome job with the repairs.
Poway Transmissions does business the right way. No upselling, no pressure. Business like this deserve repeat business and I will definitely be a long-​term customer and refer business their way.

I have had two classic Ford Bronco’s (1970 & 1972) serviced by Poway Transmission and both times they have provided great service. They never tried to «up sell» more service/​work; provided great communication and worked around my schedule.
Definitely feel like they go the extra step to provide great quality service.
The follow up thank you notes they send after service reflect their level of service and commitment.

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer that I believe was built with a subpar transmission. When my transmission began to stutter and fail I turned to friends and family to find a reputable repair center. It was at the recommendation of Ken Faverty (The shop teacher at Poway High) that I took my SUV to Poway Transmissions. I am very glad to have taken his advice.
Steve and his staff treated me fairly and were honest about my situation. They gave me a free diagnostic and were able to pinpoint the possible issues in a couple of hours. He explained the problems to me simply and clearly and gave me a great quote.
They quickly finished the work in a few days and now I believe I have a better than new transmission.

Late writing my review as I had my daughter’s Isuzu Rodeo’s transmission fixed in December of 2012, but need to let Unilocalers know that this this is a great business. Was referred to them by Poway Honda and I’m so glad that they did.
This is an honest shop with fair prices. I was really upset about having to have the transmission in the SUV either rebuilt or replaced, but Steve gave me different options and helped me make the decision to have it rebuilt for a very fair price. Let’s face it, it is never inexpensive to rebuild a transmission, but they really worked with me to make it as affordable as possible.
They are honest and have great communication while working on your car. I won’t go anywhere else!

Great experience with these guys. It is very difficult to find a good transmission shop and I am glad I found this place. My Acura MDX’s Transmission went to its grave and had I Poway rebuild it. The price was steep like any all wheel drive transmission is, but it was lower than the dealership who will just have a factory refurb shipped in and installed. I wanted a full rebuild.
Shortly after the rebuild I had a light come on and some fluid leakage. They handled the problem quickly– discovering one of the new rear seals had been pinched. The Manager got me a rental car for the day and took care of the problem. They also have a follow up appointment at the end of the repair warranty.
Great honest customer service and quality. Highly recommended!

My car was making weird grinding noises, and I was told it could be my transmission, so my mechanic recommended this place. I came here on Unilocal and saw they had good reviews, so I gave them a call.
All the good reviews are true! They checked out my transmission, test drove it to see if they could find the noise, and then when I came in to get my car they explained what they had done and what that they found nothing was wrong, and said we could test drive it again to see if I could show them the noise. Well of course it did not grind a teeny bit. They said no problem, to bring it back if it makes the noise again and they did not charge me!
I mean, if ANY car of mine EVER needs transmission work, I will come here! Plus, they are really nice people!

Had a great experience with the team at Poway Transmissions.
The team knows their stuff and they had me taken care of quickly, at a great price. Had my 2010 Camaros transmission serviced and everything went smooth as butter. Could not have asked for it to be any better.
Spoke with one of the employees there as well that had a Chevy Dragster of his own. Made me feel even more comfortable knowing the level of experience these gentlemen have. Its a breath of fresh air to see this type of classic american business with hard working folks, and great service.

Took my car for a engine check light. They checked the car out and said I didn’t need any transmission work. They checked my car for free and gave me the code from the scanner and referred me to two other local mechanics. They were very professional and the shop was clean but very busy. I’d recommend them.

Poway Transmissions has been really good to us over the 18 years we have lived in Poway. Several of my visits have been for yearly (or bienniel — tho less than they recommed) fluid changes or pan leaks. However on 3 occasions they have done complete transmission rebuilds for us. The first rebuild was a direct exchange from a reputable supplier they had used many times. Unfortunately (or fortunately) that transmission failed within the warranty period. Poway Transmission went to bat on our behalf against the transmission supplier to cover the repeat labor and well as replacing the failed transmission, even though that was explicitly NOT on the warranty.
Poway Transmission was dissatisfied with the supplier’s response to their warranty requests and decided to simply rebuild the transmission themselves on their own dime and pursue legal action against that supplier. We did not have to wait for all that legal BS to take place. Instead, Poway Trans rebuilt and installed our transmission in less than 4 days. We were ecstatic that it didnt cost us anything and that EVERY PENNY was fully covered under warranty. That was over 10 years ago and even though we only put about 5−7K per year on that old van, it still works to this day!
The 3^rd transmission rebuild was on our 2001 Chevy Venture van which now is more than 5 years out of warranty and STILL PULLING like a champ (despite my wife’s lead foot. — sorry honey ;P
I also know that several Auto Repair shops on Poway Road send their customers exclusively to Poway Transmissions and that says a lot about their reputation. Like the 5 star rating says, the friendly lady who owns Poway Transmissions and her mechanics are «As good as it gets!»
