The Grandview

What an amazing event! The Grandview hosted our wedding on May 7, 2016. We hear from our guests how organized and amazing the service was. The staff went above and beyond to ensure the wedding went well. During the ceremony, there was a slight drizzle. Staff members were outside wiping down chairs every couple of minutes to ensure our guests had dry seats to sit on. I kept hearing about brides and grooms not having time to eat during their wedding. This definitely applies. However, Caitlin and Victor ensured we had the opportunity to eat. They created a spread of all of the items in the coktail hour in the bridal suite for us and were on their toes ready to get us anything we needed. They offered to heat up our food, get us drinks, I mean this was the most amazing service I had ever received. The whole entire wedding was beautiful and we could not have done it without the help of the Grandview. We hear from our guests this was the best wedding they had ever been to. Thank you Grandview!!!

Im not sure where to begin… We just hosted our daughters wedding at the Grandview on September 11^th… It was a gorgeous day and a gorgeous venue… Brent and his team catered to us all day… The food was out of this world and the views overlooking the river were talked about for days after… Please don’t look any more… Its the best place for an outside tented wedding without all the DIY/​tent/​barn nonsense…

I am one extremely satisfied bride!!!
I was married here over the Labor Day holiday weekend in 2015 and it was a dream. We originally booked the date 1.5 years in advance and we were able to work closely with the staff (shout out to Mike!) for a long time. He was so very accommodating considering that I lived in DC and my husband lived on the west coast. They were sure to be considerate of our time zones and locations when scheduling meetings and things alike.
We opted for the outdoor ballroom because of the unmatched 180 degree views of the hudson and the bridge. Yes, it was a bit warm when our ceremony started (in the outdoor gazebo next to the ballroom), but when the sun went behind some trees an hour later, and the fans were turned on, it was something I never wanted to end!
We were able to incorporate our theme (travel) into every aspect of the venue — Mike worked with us to put up travel themed décor, craft a travel themed buffet menu, and even provide an easel for our «where in the world will you be seated» travel map :) He was with us every step of the way during planning and took care of a number of «fires» behind the scenes that I didn’t have to deal with as a bride — and I didn’t even know about until weeks after! Talk about a piece of mind — you can’t put a price on that!
On the day, the assigned woman was at my side — delivering water (or wine!), pinning up my dress, making sure we ate the delicious food spread, and doing whatever odds and ends you wouldn’t even think to think of! I do consider myself a detail-​lover and super type-​A person, but the staff here were even more on top of it!
The best part, too, is all the things you can have included in a one-​stop-​shop venue: the tables, chairs, linens, cake, food, booze, and dessert spread. Of course, you can upgrade or downgrade (as your tastes and budgets allow) all of these things. All we had to do was make centerpieces and show up! As much as I love planning, I just love that so much was included and therefore taken care of for me.
Can’t rave enough about this venue. I absolutely love love love it! Thanks Grandview for making my day even more than I could’ve dreamed for!

This is a long overdue review. I had my wedding here on June 28, 2015. It was one of the best day of my life!

My husband and I would give The Grandview and their staff a million stars if we can. They were absolutely amazing from start to finish. I was looking for an outdoor wedding with a tent look. After scouring the web and pinterest for places I might consider for my wedding venue, I stumbled upon The Grandview on a random google search one Saturday morning and immediately called and spoke to Margaret over the phone. I scheduled my appointment to meet with her in early April 2014. After meeting and speaking with her, we knew this venue was the place. The view was spectacular even though it was still in the dead of winter (long winter 2014). We saw the potential of having our wedding here. The only drawback for us was the distance. We lived nowhere near Poughkeepsie and neither did most of our guests. After much thinking, we went with our gut and booked our date.
I did not have a wedding planner. I was my own wedding planner and at first, I felt a bit overwhelmed. Margaret is great to work with. I had so many questions during the process but she was able to answer them all each time I sent her an email. She made it so easy and simple for me.
On the day of our wedding, we could not have been more pleased with the outcome. It was everything we expected and more! The weather on the other hand was not behaving 100% for us. It was cloudy and misty all morning. We really wanted our ceremony to be outdoor. Michael who was our maitre D wanted that for us too. We had 30 minutes prior to our start time to decide and we went with outdoor but then it started coming down a bit more 15 minutes before start time. We asked Michael if it was too late to move it back in and he said «Not a problem. We’ll get it done right away». He was so quick and professional about it. He is absolutely the best and we could not have been more happy to have him as our maitre D that day. He is such a sweet and caring man.
Sally was my bridal attendant. She was so sweet, calm, and caring. She went everywhere I went. She took care of me and made sure my train was bustled and when it fell again and again, she would fix it and then later suggested putting a safety pin to hold it. She even went out in the rain with me so I can get some portraits done. We were out there for a good 40 minutes and she stood patiently waiting for us. Not only did she take care of me, she took care of my entire bridal party!
Everyone at The Grandview went far and beyond for us to make our day THE BEST DAY EVER! We still get compliments from our guests about how great the food and the service was! It was top notch!

I was in a wedding party a couple of weeks ago and the wedding was held here. I really liked it. We spent the day getting ready in the bridal suite, which is somewhat small, but has everything you need. Two weddings at a time can be held — one inside and one outside, with each bridal party having their own suite. I was not a fan of the two-​weddings-​at-​the-​same-​time-​thing, but everything went so smoothly at the Grandview that I may reconsider my stance on that. The staff was friendly and helpful, the food was good, and you can’t beat the view. If I were looking to get married in the Poughkeepsie area, I would definitely consider the Grandview as the venue.

My husband and I had our wedding reception at the The Grandview on May 3 and could not have asked for a more perfect day. Our reception was in the outdoor ballroom and it was beautiful. We had the amazing view of the water and the Mid Hudson bridge (which lights up at night) and an amazing sunset. Being able to go outside or sit inside under the tent provided a relaxed feel for our formal event. Our guests could not stop talking about the food, especially the cocktail hour, and the wonderful service. Our maitre d, Victor, and our assistant, Sally, were unbelievable. They were on top of everything and just helped keep me calm during such an overwhelming day. In addition to the day itself being perfect, the planning leading up to our wedding could not have been easier. Melissa was always there to answer our questions and was there for us every step of the way. The Grandview was everything that we wanted for our special day and more. Our friends and family are still raving about what a beautiful wedding we had. It is without any reservations that we would reccommend The Grandview to anyone for their wedding reception or any formal event.

I had my wedding at The Grandview in the ballroom on May 8 and let me tell you — these people know how to run a venue! If i could give this 10 stars I would — 5 is not enough!
From beginning to end, the team at The Grandview was organized, responsive, timely, friendly and accommodating. Our engagement was 1.5 years long and my fiancé, family and I spent a ton of time on our own planning and building many details — I’m talking designed menus, bar signs, custom built centerpieces, a special cake stand, etc. As you can imagine, I had many questions along the way, but I was always met with a pleasant voice over the phone or timely and accommodating email from Melissa or Mike. I never once felt stressed and I always felt like they would do whatever it took to make sure our wedding day was just as we had always imagined.
We requested Mike Post as our coordinator because I absolutely loved his energy, excitement and attention to detail. He just gets me! Leading up to the wedding I felt confident and happy with everything — the food, the Grandview team, the ballroom.
The big day arrived and Mike’s huge smile and hug was so appreciated! It’s so nice to be around people who are passionate about what they do and just genuinely happy for the big day. It makes all the difference in the world and made me even more excited. I met Vanessa, our head server, and quickly realized that she and Mike had set everything up PERFECTLY. And when I say perfectly, I mean P-​E-​R-​F-​E-​C-​T-​L-​Y! I am very type A, a perfectionist, I’m an Art Director for a living. That means I had a vision 1.5 years ago when I started designing everything, and I had a massive expectation… The place looked exactly as I had intended! After the ceremony, everyone during cocktail hour told me that this was the most organized wedding they’d ever been to! Not to mention that the view on the water was amazing with the perfect weather we had, and the food was phenomenal! Before we were announced into our reception, Mike prepared trays of appetizers for us in the bridal suite so my husband and I could spend some time together and eat some food before the party began. Both him and Vanessa were very attentive to us the entire evening.
The night went on perfectly, and when the bridge lit up it was truly gorgeous. I should also mention that there was one other wedding going on in the outdoor ballroom and I never once realized it or saw anyone from that event. The Grandview does an excellent job of providing two gorgeous options that are equally private so you feel like you’re the only wedding there.

First, see my review for Shadows. My issue is the food. I was here for a wedding. There were 135 people and everyone ordered from a limited selection. After my bout with suspected food poisoning from a chicken dish at Shadows the night before, I chose to go with steak, even though I’m not a regular beef eater. I ordered it medium rare. It came out lukewarm at best, just like the night before, and VERY undercooked. I was starving so I ate it, but am regretting it now. The kitchen is huge, but big doesn’t mean good. You’ve got to keep the food hot! Maybe stick to buffets? I’ve worked in catering and there wasn’t once an issue with cold dinners.
Have occupied the restroom for a better part of today, and starting to feel pukey again tonight. Not happy when I have a relatively early flight home.
5 star view and stunning venue. Service was excellent!

We spent New Year’s Eve [2015] here. The cost for a couple with tax was $ 250. I was blown away with how delicious all the hors d’oeuvres. They had a beautiful ice sculpture centerpiece that surrounded a raw oysters bar and cocktail shrimp buffet. Also there was a sear-​bar for meats such as steak and chicken. They had a cheese and cracker and pasta/​potato salad table that was over flowing with delicious options. Along another wall of the cocktail hour area was a fresh custom pasta-​bar. When they opened the dinning area and we found our assigned table we were assigned a waiter who was very attentive and kept the all-​inclusive drinks flowing. We were 2 deep into our beverage of choice for the rest of the night. The [entrée] food was delicious. I opted for the steak and it was a large cut cooked perfectly medium-​rare! We marveled that they could cook so many steaks by request on demand. We hadn’t chosen our food until we were at the event. After midnight they opened up a breakfast buffet: stocked with eggs, bacon, and pastries, as if we had any room…
We had booked a hotel that had a shuttle [ trolley-​like] bus to and from; that arrived every 30 minutes. Our friends who were local to Poughkeepsie-​ites had a hard time getting a taxi after the event was over (maybe 1 am) and ended up coming back with us on the shuttle and stayed over night at the hotel.

When my husband and I were looking at places to have our reception we, just like everyone else, were looking for the best deal. Well, we got it!!! After visiting a few places we had finally decided on one. That night we called our DJ who happened to be a close friend and told him. He suggested we continue looking and highly recommended The Grandview. I immediately went on their website and from the looks of it I thought it was going to be a fortune but I was wrong.
The following day we went there and met with Mike Post who was an amazing maître d’. He went over all they had to offer and then came the questions about price and surprisingly enough they gave more for the same prices of other venues and they had an amazing view of the Hudson River and the Mid-​Hudson Bridge. Other places only had a view or a parking lot. As most brides do, I had questions and each time I received an answer right away. After we booked they invited us to a tasting and the food was nothing you could ever imagine, every bite was filled with flavor and presented with class. When it was time to make decisions about the menu and drop things off I received a call and we met that weekend. My husband and I walked out knowing our wedding was going to be seamless. Finally the day had arrived and it was like a dream come true. My entire wedding party, parents, and guests were treated like royalty. Each time they left their tables their napkins were replaced, their drinks were filled and as for my husband and me we didn’t have to lift a finger before, during, or after. They set everything up and packed my in-​laws car. The cake was baked on premise and I can’t tell you how beautiful it was you wouldn’t believe me, you would have to see it and it tasted like heaven!!! After the wedding we received compliments from all of our guests about the entire wedding. Thank you to the entire staff especial Mike and Caitlyn, we will be forever grateful!!!

Great spot in nice weather. Double check the weather before going. Hudson River is beautiful.

My wife called to plan an event for a specific date. She drove an hour to get there and then the person said «oh that date is booked.» Why make someone drive out there for the wrong date?

After looking for the perfect venue for my wedding, we chose the Grandview based on location, views, and overall budget/​price. We are SO happy that we made that choice. We got married in the middle of October and were lucky enough to have a perfect fall day and even had our ceremony outside — which was stunning. Being from Poughkeepsie myself, I take for granted how beautiful the Hudson Valley is but our guests from all over the country (California, Florida, Texas and as far away as Sweden) were beyond impressed.
Just as impressive as the scenery was the service. I can not tell you how attentive and professional everyone was — but not intrusive which was the perfect balance. We heard from countless guests how accomodating and just plain NICE all the staff were to our guests. Seriously, they seemed to be having a great time at my wedding too (while still being professional) which fit the feel we wanted — an intimate wedding where everyone was happy and having fun.
I also live in NYC so was planning my wedding from a bit of a distance. I worked with Lindsay who made everything so simple and easy. I trusted her from the very beginning and knew my wedding would run smoothly and as far as I knew, it was perfect!
Again, I almost over looked the Grandview as a location spot but I am so glad that I ended up having my ceremony and wedding there. It was the perfect mix of outdoorsy, casual and classic that I had wanted. I will be forever grateful.

Came here for a wedding in November and the cocktail hour food alone blew me away. Granted the food is based upon what the host chooses during their package selection and ours must have went ALL OUT, P Diddy Package Deluxe bc my oh my, they had just about everything!
As soon as we walked in and waited for the ceremony, there was champagne and a fruit and cheese set up in the lobby. After vows, Cocktail hour was four different stations consisting of asian inspired dishes like sweet & sour chicken, dumplings, cold noodles etc. Another station was tacos and mexican fiesta fare. But in the middle of the room was a gigantic ice sculpture surounded by lobster tails and claws, oyster shots, king crab legs the size of my entire arm, shrimp cocktail and the works. The seafood alone must have cost a butt-​ton!
It was an afternoon wedding and I wish it lasted longer bc it really flew by! The only downside was the entrée food which was a choice of stuffed shrimp, chicken scarpiello or something like that (not a marsala or lemon chicken) or a ribeye. Love me some ribeyes so I went with that, and asked for ‘rare’ bc they couldn’t do medium-​rare. Um ok? Well thank god i asked for rare bc what I received was medium. Not the best cut of meat and I have had better ribeyes before; though it wasn’t terrible.
Dessert was candy bar and some small cakes along with a slice of wedding cake. I don’t like sweets but overall, still very nice. From what I saw in this wedding, I would recommend couples to check out the various packages. And do your guests a favor, ALWAYS HAVE AN OPEN BAR. There is seriously no excuse. This wedding had the liquor flowing and everyone had a grand time. Staff was ultra friendly and helpful as well.

The Grandview is a beautiful place to have a wedding. It is on the Hudson River and the place is pretty close to public transportation, allowing people from the city to give guests who do not drive more travel options.
The wedding I attended at the Grandview took place outside and was beautiful, on a sunny summer day. There was a tent set up for the reception. Right after the wedding and about 20 minutes into the reception, it rained. Actually, it flood rained and there were extreme winds and it was like the world was ending. The staff at Grandview battled the elements to ensure that the wedding continued without a hitch. Even though we were technically outside, the tents were amazingly staffed so that there was no water creeping into the wedding.
The food was good and the wait staff was actually amazing. They knew their products, were very engaging and they were a huge step above the usual dry event hall staff you often encounter.

My husband and I had our ceremony and reception here and were beyond happy with the experience! It may be on the pricier side for upstate NY but you get a lot for your money! As the bride I got a personal assistant or maître d’ that helped myself and my husband with anything and everything we needed. It really helped ease the stress that is inevitable with having a wedding! Everyone was so helpful and friendly! Another great thing with the Grandview is that you do have to have a minimum of 100 people for the indoor ballroom but if some guests cancel you can use the plate price towards an upgrade!
I’m so happy we decided to go with the Grandview because I feel anyplace else would have left something to be desired. I would recommend them to anyone!

I’m actually a little surprised that I’m only the 7^th review for the Grandview… it’s been around for 6 years and of the thousands of people through here, only a handful rate it, shame.
I’m not sure where to start. I’ve been on two sides of enjoyment of the Grandview. I’ve attended a wedding, been in a wedding and have gotten married all at the Grandview and the place is rock solid. The first ever event/​wedding was September 1, 2006 and it was my lifelong friend, I was the Maid of Honor. The dishes/​place settings arrived the DAY OF THE WEDDING! Yep, no joke… and you would have never known. The cocktail hour is over the top and most guests think this IS the reception because of the food selection. There are servers constantly replacement empty platters and the maitre’d has an earpiece which I assume goes back to the kitchen to let them know what needs to be replaced. It ran like a top!
My wedding was a few years later May 2010. Talk about relaxed wedding planning. There’s no need for a wedding planner if you wet married here, they basically do almost everything for you! BONUS! I planned my wedding in 8 months and I wasn’t stressed one bit. Margaret was my contact person and upon our first meeting with her, we picked the date, gave a deposit and received the deadlines and all paperwork necessary to make this happen. Let me talk about the $$ side. Someone mentioned the cost, I disagree. My parents were in SHOCK as to how cheap the wedding was. 129 people, Saturday (afternoon), main Ballroom… ceremony on the back patio… and ALL costs such as dress/​flowers/​favors, etc was barely over $ 20,000 (this also included additional cost for some meals). I feel that is extremely reasonable for the size wedding and location. It was an afternoon wedding which had a lower guest minimum and cheaper plate cost. We had to guarantee 100 people whereas the evening reception we would have to guarantee 175. Grandview supplies napkins to match your colors as well as any.cake.you.can.ever.choose. I went with a 4-​tier square cake, with green ribbon, which they ordered so it was the correct color. We dropped off the bathroom baskets, favors and any other addition things a couple days before the wedding so it was set up… none of us had to lift a finger.
I could clearly go on and on about the Grandview, but I think it sells itself. They are a «wedding factory», yet they made me feel like I was the only wedding ever to be held there, I felt special and that they really cared about our wedding. Also, the outdoor ceremony was absolutely amazing (another thing they plan themselves, so it’s something the Bride/​Groom do not have to worry about). A+++ My guests are still talking about the wedding that it was the best they have ever been to, and that makes me feel so great. Open bar is included, you can include the tip or leave jars for your guests to tip themselves, they do not allow shots, and they card everyone, no ID, no alcohol.
Amazing place. I’ve also been here for their Easter Brunch and that is just as delicious. Also, they include a Bridal Show for you and a guest as well as a «mock wedding» you can attend and do the food tasting with many other couples with dates planned… all included in the cost of the wedding. Regarding the cost, they only accept cash or check. No credit card… if you don’t have the money in hand, you can’t get married here.
For the outdoor ceremony space, they give up to 1 hour before the wedding to move it indoors (in case of weather or any other unforeseen event). There is a bridal suite, champagne and apps ready for you post ceremony. I also want to mention the package includes a Honeymoon Suite the night of the wedding and 5 guest rooms at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. The 5 rooms can be used any way you want…1 guest for 5 nights, or 5 guests for 1 night or whatever you want. Our suite was amazing with a gorgeous bathroom. There are two Trolley’s that are used as transportation from the Poughkeepsie Grand to the Grandview for all your guests all day of the wedding, which changes to an 11-​passenger van after 11:00pm if you choose to go next door to Shadows to keep the party going!
Like I said, they do everything right.

Came here for a tasting and the cocktail hour was very nice. They had a very inventive collection of hors derves and cocktails where ⁷⁄₁₀ hit the mark while others not quite. The entrees on the other hand were not as impressive even though it sounded delicious on the menu. The red snapper was nicely seasoned but the meat was too tough. The steak was decent but not remarkable, it too, was slightly on the tougher side even though it was a good cut.
The service was attentive and pretty consistent. The space is beautiful but a bit worn. Overall this is a very nice venue, however they could moderate the portions in favor of greater variety. Basically, the tasting was a small demo of what a wedding will be like there.

My husband and I held our wedding reception here last fall, and I can’t even find the right words to explain how happy we were with our experience.
This is, hands down, the best place for a reception in the Hudson Valley. We received so many compliments from our guests on everything from the food to the scenery to the service. Even now, months later, our relatives are still commenting on what a great wedding it was.
To all Brides: if you live anywhere near the Hudson Valley, and you don’t at least consider the Grandview as a venue, you are missing out.
It’s pricey, yes, but you get what you pay for. I expected perfection, and I got it.
