Holiday Inn Express Poughkeepsie

I’ve stayed in much worse for more $$$. The room was reasonably clean. Staff was friendly and resourceful.
Our sink in our room didn’t drain. Took like 15 minutes before the water went out of it and there is seriously like NO hot water. Have to run the shower for a solid 5 minutes before the water turned «Luke warm».
So if a hot relaxing shower is what your looking for, you’re better off finding another establishment.

This is the second time I am checking in to this hotel. It is very welcoming and clean. VERY cheap too. Would recommend this hotel to anyone coming upstate to see the foliage and need a place to stay.

There’s no hot water. Like the shower is literally ice cold. I see there’s another review from 5 months ago saying the same thing so… When we called reception they lied to us which didn’t help this. Happy I’m only here one night and leaving ASAP.

This hotel is basically clean and adequate, but the main reason to stay is to sleep, and the bed was awful! We stayed in a room with a King bed. The bed seemed very old, and was very hard, lumpy and uncomfortable. Everything else was okay. The room was clean and adequately equipped, but the halls and hotel in general smell like a combination of smoke, odor and air freshener. The fridge and the room air unit was very noisy, and the room was either slightly too hot or too cold. The breakfast was pretty bad to standard. I would much rather stay in either a Hampton Inn or Marriott. I would not return.

Hotel, motel, Holiday Inn… Express.
Stayed here for one night to attend a wedding at Locust Grove… great location (½ mile from the groves) and fairly short driving distance to the Mid-​Hudson Bridge and the Hudson Rail Trails. Shopping center is nearby with Stop and Shop (aka the Giant of the north) and CVS (also Five Guys and Red Robin… but you are better off driving north into the city for better food).
The King bed room was clean and well-​equipped with enough towels, microwave, and fridge. No noise issues whatsoever (on the first floor and in the northeast corner, near end of a hall) and the bed is was comfortable (though not as comfy as Hampton Inn).
Breakfast was phenomenal, with turkey sausage, cheese omelettes, biscuits, bagels, juices, and a pancake maker, as well as to-​go oatmeal and yogurt cups. A small outdoor pool is available, as well as a fitness and business center. Self serve laundry on the 4^th floor.
Minus one star for adequate customer service… nothing bad but nothing special either, especially given that there’s plenty of other options nearby (including the aforementioned Hampton Inn).

Room was clean and front desk was helpful. Only issue was that I didn’t have any hot water in the morning.

Staff is very nice. Halls and elevator smell and need updating. Bed was super comfy, bathroom was clean but shabby. Really not up to par with updated hotels at comparable price points in the area. But it’s fine if u r in a pinch.

Beggars can’t be choosers, so without expecting much in the way of nice hotels in Poughkeepsie, I was pleasantly surprised with how nice our one night stay was at this little Holiday Inn.
The room was very spacious and exceptionally clean. There was a nice TV and nothing at all to complain about. They also had most of the amenities you could ask for, including an indoor pool and a small fitness center. The fitness room was sweltering to the level that it kind of felt like a sauna, but I guess you go to the gym to sweat anyway, so it was all good. Also, most importantly, free WiFi.
They also have complimentary breakfast available in the mornings, with tons of hotel quality breakfast foods. So probably take off and find breakfast elsewhere, but everything about the experience here was great.

I know it’s just a Holiday Inn Express but it’s perfect. Weve stayed here a half dozen times and its clean, the location is perfect and it has all the amenities my wife and I need. I like this chain in general but this HIE is special. And the new Poughkeepsie waterfront and the river walk is awesome. I definitely recommend.

Very clean, large room. Comfortable bed. Free wi-​fi. Refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave in our room. Friendly staff, chocolate chip cookies at check-​in. Free breakfast which we did not try since we had breakfast plans elsewhere. Exercise room, outdoor pool. Very nice and quality matches the price point.

This hotel was perfectly adequate for a one night stay on our drive back from Montréal. Our room was clean, if a little outdated, and the guy working the front desk was very friendly. I didn’t think the bed was particularly comfortable, but then again, I never think it is the first night I stay in a hotel.
The free breakfast was pretty blah, but if you stick with the basics, like some toast, yogurt and cereal, it’s enough fuel to keep you going until lunch. The free wi-​fi was a nice touch.
Bottom line, I’d stay here again if I were in the area, but I wouldn’t necessarily seek it out.

Pretty standard for the price range. Clean enough, but no frills. McDonald’s-ish complimentary breakfast options (too bad the automatic pancake maker made such gummy pancakes, otherwise I’d probably have one sitting on my kitchen counter right now), and the gym leaves much to be desired. The free wi-​fi is nice — take note fancy pants resorts that charge 3 times as much per night but want to nickel and dime me for your crappy wi-​fi…

A bit expensive for a no-​frills experience. Everything was clean and functional, but that’s about it.
The bed was comfortable, and I appreciated that each pillowcase is embroidered with the word «firm» or «soft.» Cute. Water pressure from one of those giant shower heads was ok.
Check-​in was straightforward, pleasant but not friendly. The rest of the staff appeared to be hard-​working and of the strong/​silent variety; the breakfast crew cleaned the area until it was spotless, without disturbing those of us nursing a cup of coffee after hours. I didn’t use the exercise room, outdoor pool (obviously, it’s November), or business center, but they all seemed fine. Wi-​fi worked flawlessly.
Breakfast was awful (although the coffee was ok), and the styrofoam plates just made it worse. Do yourself a favor and go for the instant Quaker oatmeal packets; you’ll thank me. Better yet, go to one of the diners on Main Street.

We had a good experience at this HI Express. We made the reservation online and everything went smoothly upon arrival. The appearance of the hotel was up to par both inside and out; however, the rooms are slightly outdated. So, perhaps a slight update is necessary in the rooms/​bathrooms, but still a good experience as the room was clean and comfortable.

Before I begin I should note this review is based on information from back in 2002/​3, so hopefully conditions haven’t changed that much, but I just thought of this place while reviewing another HI Express and had such a good experience here I thought it worth reviewing anyways.
Back in ’02 and ’03 for several months I just about lived here during the week. I had a place in West Harlem in NYC but was working on a union campaign in this area so during the week and even some weekends I stayed here.
The reason this place is getting five stars? It’s all about the management/​staff. The manager of the place was a German guy who fit the stereotype of a large, very friendly Bavarian. Really cool guy and he was all about hospitality. Even though HI Express hotels weren’t set up for dinner and drinks, every now and then he’d set up a sort of «reception» for the guests in the breakfast area (in the evening) with beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres. He even hooked me up with what I called the «pimp suite» (jacuzzi and the whole nine) on a couple of occasions at the regular rate (I guess because the other organizers and I were giving the place such good business). Of course the hotel itself and the rooms were immaculately maintained.
The front desk staff was also quite awesome, friendly and intelligent, and, needless to say, after staying there for so long we got on quite friendly terms, and some nights I’d come down and just chill at the front desk with a couple of beers and chat. The housekeeping staff was friendly and efficient and a couple of those maids were freakin hot!
So yeah, if this place is anything like it was, I highly, highly recommend it if you’re staying in the Poughkeepsie/​New Paltz area.
