I stopped in here a couple times while I was staying at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. This is the restaurant in the lobby of the hotel. They have a pretty solid selection of food and drinks. I had a Chicken Caesar Salad. It was a pretty good size salad for a meal. Nothing too fancy about it, but it tasted good and the price was great. We also had breakfast before we left here and that was very good as well. I had a ham & cheese omelette with breakfast potatoes and toast. Also very good and reasonably priced, though we had breakfast vouchers that I believe you can get when you check in. The bar had a very good selection as well. There hours were tough during the weekdays, since they closed at 5pm, but overall this was a good spot to grab a quick breakfast or lunch and a drink.

First of all… the service was horrible; very very slow. Plus, the waiter and waitress working the lunch shift seemed to be having some kind of disagreement which was awkward and annoying to have to watch while trying to enjoy a meal. Then I waited 10 minutes for my check when I was sitting at the bar watching them bicker. Second, I ordered a seltzer water with lime and I was served a glass of tonic water. Oh sweet Christ. No one should ever expect to be sipping water and you get a mouthful of bitter disgusting-ness…there wasn’t even any gin in it to sweeten the deal! Come on people! But I get it… mistakes can be made and I could have ignored the first two grievances. But, last and certainly not least, I had a horrible lunch. I ordered the chicken Dijon sandwich. Ugh. Maybe the worst Chicken sandwich I have ever had; chicken was dry as a bone with no flavor at all… bun was stale… and the sandwich was saturated in Dijon mustard. Really? It was Grotesque. If you are ever at this hotel I would recommend you skip this place and venture out into the city of Poughkeepsie. It Can’t be much worse than this place… I would never eat here again.

Stayed at the hotel for a conference I was at and with Poughkeepsie being cold in January seemed like a good idea to eat in rather then try to find an external restaurant. Prices were reasonable, had the Calamari and it was excellent, the horseradish marmalade dipping sauce was great. The. Moved on to the Bacon Cheddar Burger and it was pretty good, not amazing but tasty. The place was empty except for the conference folks but I can’t imagine many people in Poughkeepsie venturing through the snow to eat at a hotel restaurant. Good food if that’s where you are.

I must say we walked in at 12:30 on a Sunday and not a sole in the restaurant had me worried. I must say I am glad we stayed stayed as Esteban took great care of us and the food was great. Salmon club is a must have along with the coconut shrimp. Well worth the stop in with a great ambiance.

Ambience: Great place to eat at the bar. Service: Excellent — bar tenders jump through their rear ends to get you what you want. Food: Excellent. Had sirloin last night. Done to perfection. Vegies and smashers were perfect — nice meal and great drinks.

Love this place! Whenever my husband and I are at an event at the Civic Center or Bardavon, this is the place where we always eat, and always will! The prices are really low, especially considering it’s in the lobby of the Grand Hotel. Drinks are very reasonably priced, particularly for a hotel bar. The appetizers were really good. We had coconut shrimp, which was perfect, and the spinich dip, which was a little watery, but still good. The nacho chips were freshly made, and very tasty. For entrees, we had the NY strip steaks, which were okay. Just okay. The veggies and taters that came with them, were exceptional. The desserts are unreal! We had the mousse tower and only regret that we didn’t order one to take home. Next time.

The location seems ideal — smack in the lobby of the hotel. Staff was great, and wine and liquor selection is great. Food leaves a bit to be desired, but we had a blast!

Well, they don’t call Poughkeepsie The Windy City for nothing. This place is a kite lovers dream! Ben Franklin really should have considered housing his centuries old experiment with the elements here. He sure dropped the ball on that one, right? OK, onto Market Bar. Nothing to see here — pretty terrible food(maybe the worst caesar salad I’ve ever had), and the«bottles» of wine/champagne are 375ml, yet you won’t find out about that until the bottle arrives at your table. Definitely sounds like a better deal at $ 32 than it really is… If I were you, I’d probably pack my own breakfast, lunch, and dinner if staying in the reed-covered lodge by the little-water place(Poughkeepsie name orientation — huh?!).
