Mahoney’s offers a diverse group menu with delicious food prepared by chef graduates of The Culinary Institute of America, a lively environment, and a professional staff. Of course, our favorite celebration is the holiday of St. Patrick. We begin at 6:00am every year… complete with live traditional Irish music, bagpipers, step dancers, and Mad Mike and Friends DJ Services.
History
Established in 2004.
Mahoney’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, 35 Main St., Poughkeepsie, NY was established in 2004 and is located within the original Vassar Brewery building dating back to the early 1800’s. Encased in the pub floor you can see the original auger that Mathew Vassar used to load grain and barley into the distilleries. Mathew Vassar was a benevolent individual and used his wealth for the good of the community, creating Vassar Hospital, establishing Vassar Women’s College, and an Old Age Center for Men. Mahoney’s owners continue in that tradition and support many local organizations and charities through direct donations and fundraising events hosted at Mahoney’s
Meet the Business Owner
Emmett W.
Business Owner
Emmett Woods, born in County Tyrone, Ireland, in the hills of Pomeroy, immigrated to the United States in 1995. Employed as a carpenter, by 1996, he owned his own construction company. In 2003, he saw an opportunity to become a founding partner in a restaurant in Poughkeepsie, NY and opened Mahoney’s Irish Pub and Restaurant.
Never being far from his Irish roots, Emmett and several other families secured funds to purchase fields for the Rockland Gaelic Athletic Association and have since, completed a major renovation to the fields and soon, the Club House. As the Rockland GAA President. he is particularly proud of the club’s ongoing expansion.
He used that experience to renovate and restore the early 1900’s Montgomery Maze stone mansion to its old-world charm. The result, Emmett’s Castle at Blue Hill, a full service restaurant.
