My Chimney Sweep Service

Found Jim online, and boy, am I glad I did. First of all, before I was even a client I asked a question about a small crack in the back of my firebox. He had me take a picture and send it to him. He informed me that it wasn’t a problem at all and that I need not worry about it. He didn’t charge me for the opinion, and asked only that I call him for a sweep when needed. Considering his honesty (I’ve heard other sweeps will look to charge for nearly any and everything) I did just that. He and his team came on time, were swift and clean. Fast, friendly, and honest service. I can’t recommend these guys enough!

This company was great in all ways. Great communication, fair price, good work and very good cleanup. I called Jim after another company gave me an outlandish quote for work I didn’t need done. He responded promptly and courteously and they even tolerated my dogs crawling all over them as they cleaned the chimney.

Fantastic service. Showed up within the window they specified, were very efficient, and delightful.
They inspected 2 chimneys, gave us advice on how to light them, and best of all, said we didn’t need them to be cleaned. Exceptionally honest and professional service.

Jim and Bill came over to inspect our fireplace last Saturday. They were professional, polite, reasonably priced, and very down to earth. Will definitely use them again next year.

These gentlemen are great! Jim called me back the evening I left a vm, confirmed the date, and was very thorough in explaining the service and cost. Then, he called, just as he promised, the day before to confirm the time. Jim and his helper came right on time, took a look, and told me exactly what needed to be done (cleaning now, work later in the spring). Very fair, honest company! Rate is incredibly reasonable. I will definitely be following up in the spring for the chimney work I need. Highly, highly recommend!!!

So far so good… I sent in a request for a quote, Jim called back in less than 24 hours. Yes, he speaks really fast and seems like he’s in a hurry, but that’s OK with me as I like to move along quickly. He got right to the point, and also took the time to answer a few of my questions about wood stoves, without sounding irritated or anything — just offered the information efficiently, to the point, quickly. Back later after the work has been completed.

Jim and Delante just came out and cleaned my chimney. Outstanding job. Quick, friendly and professional. Will definitely use again!

I cannot say enough about Jim and his team. I was in a time crunch to get my chimney cleaned prior to my move-​out inspection and My Chimney Sweep was able to squeeze me into their schedule. Jim and his team are extremely professional, on time, customer-​oriented and not to mention, hilarious.

I had My Chimney Sweep do some work at my boss’ home (who is VERY particular) and they did any excellent job!

Jim is the best ever!!! He inspected our Chimineas and said they were completely safe and fine to use. I had three other companies come do it inspections and tell me I needed full replacements costing me upwards in the $ 6000 range for all of them. Honest guy! We had to wait 3 weeks to get on his schedule, but he was there within the window. Best $ ever spent,

My wife had called and emailed My Chimney Sweep Service but, she did not get any answer for over a week; at one point the voice mail box was full. I tried to call and got the «I’m up on a roof message», asked him to call me, and did not get an answer for days.
It was only after I posted my first review, were I made the error of stating that I was able to get hold of another service without problem and Jim posted a reply that he had no idea who on earth we were. Later, the next day, Jim called to say he was so booked up that he could not get to us.
So maybe they guy is so good he is booked solid for weeks out; good for him.
So I’ve learned, don’t wait for My Chimney Sweep to call you back if time is a factor and don’t try to point folks to a more responsive service in a Unilocal review or Unilocal will pull the one star posting.
This may explain to Nithya M. of Silver Spring in the 4÷22÷2014 review «Usually I am suspicious of companies that have only 5 star reviews…» let me see if this one star sticks.

Sorry to tell you Jim, I’m not working for the other side. I just did not think enough of that other company, pro or con to post a review. If I was working for them I would have posted a great review. I’ve got no dog in this fight outside of letting folks know you are not so good on follow up. Seems Chelle A. on 12÷8÷14 & Ted J. on 7÷26÷14 would seem to agree.
I think I hit a raw spot with you & truth hurts.

The Unilocal reviews are correct. Jim rocks. Jim and Dave came to clean our chimney. Professional, respectful, honest… they took off their shoes without asking (a plus for an Asian household) and made sure the fireplace area was clean afterwards.
I highly recommend Jim for his services.

The Unilocal Crowd was right! Jim showed up right on time, got straight to work and didn’t add unnecessary costs.
My advice is not to wait until the cool weather to try and schedule, they get super busy.

Jim is a local, SO GREAT and knowledgable about his work, and the neighborhoods we all live in– I’d recommend him for anyone for a wood burning fireplace. He is very neat, respectful and clean, and so is his assistant. I was raving about his services at work, and I found out my boss used him too independently of me. I wouldn’t use anyone else. I called him up early November 2013 but he squeezed me in before the end of the month. He’s a very busy guy so I’d definitely get him out to schedule him early! He accepts checks but you get a discount if you pay by cash.

Usually I am suspicious of companies that have only 5 star reviews, but in this case Jim is legit. We just bought a house whose chimney had fallen into total disrepair because of water damage from a tree that was growing alongside it. After we removed the tree, Jim, Dave and Dalonte came to re-​create the top which was crumbling and unusable. They re-​mortered the bricks on top and some on the side of the house and then installed a new liner portion and new damper and crowning. Then Jim did the cleaning and put in a new ash door in the floor of the fireplace. At no point did he want to charge more than our agreed upon price. Everything went smoothly and quickly and these guys were a lot of fun!

Jim and Dave are wonderful. They came right in, put down a drop cloth, and got to work. I don’t think my chimney has ever been cleaned, so they had a pretty tough job. After getting everything they could, they went to work on the broken damper. Jim even crawled into the fireplace and spent about half an hour battling the damper until it slid back into place. After all of this, he still didn’t charge me more than the cost of cleaning. They are professional, friendly, and straight forward. Don’t use anyone else. Call Jim for all things fireplace. Great service!

I found My Chimney Sweep Service after reading Unilocal reviews and I am so glad I decided to utilize their Service. Jim is extremely personable and I had a great interaction with him from our initial phone conversation through our visit. My chimney is clean, my damper is fixed, and I am now aware of some issues on the outside that I was not aware of. Jim even took a picture of cracked crowning for me, sent me the photo via email before he left, and explained what should be done to fix the issues.
This is a fantastic, reasonable, trustworthy business with excellent customer service. Who could ask for more? I will definitely use My Chimney Sweep Service again for my chimney needs!

I took the chance and used My Chimney Sweep Service last year after finding Jim on Craiglist and I still get to be FTR! Well, Jim just left my house a few minutes ago for another sweeping, so I’ll stop being selfish and share him with the rest of the Unilocal world.
When Jim comes by to clean and inspect your fireplace it feels less like a professional service being rendered and more like a friend coming over for some drinks… who just happens to be sweeping your chimney. (No drinks were actually involved on Jim’s part though :-P) Jim did an excellent job cleaning the chimney but as he noted, the steel-​lined chimneys are very easy to maintain anyway.
Jim shares stories and plenty of laughs while he’s working and then even after. He’s always been early and he’s also never in a rush to get out of there and will stick around to tell you more than you ever needed to know about maintaining your chimney.
