Description

Specialties

We support the awareness about, and growth of:

1) Portland’s emerging and re-emerging artists

2) Arts programs, exhibits and events with community and social implications

We do this by curating space at various exhibit and event locations throughout the Portland-metro area. Our newest collaborative project is the «Gallery for Good» with Ned Space at both their locations (117 nw 5th and 920 sw 3rd).

Some past projects include: rdEVOLUTION: Artists’ Pondeings on Interspecies Survival; The Trophy Show — a Look at What We Value and Why; Artists’ Auditions II Runners Up exhibit; Chance Meetings curated by Vicky Frankland; and our OFF THE WALL exhibits — original art and literature for $ 100 or less.

History

Established in 2004.

Working Artists LLC [WA] was initially founded as a non-profit April 29, 2004. It quickly became apparent that a for-profit model would be the best way to develop the concept, so the non-profit was dissolved and Working Artists became an LLC on May 5, 2005.

WA started out with a physical location in the third floor, south wing of the Carton Service building at 2211 NW Front Avenue in Portland OR. WA housed 12 studios (from painting to dance studios) wrapped around a small 600 sq. ft. gallery. The gallery at that location was closed in early March 2009 and is now operated under a «phantom gallery» concept — occupying vacant spaces in the city as well as providing curation for social change projects in office buildings, converted warehouses, at festivals and more.
