After several months, I’m revising my review. I have tried going here several times during their posted hours of operation and they were closed every time. Tonight my husband tried going, and there was a line of people outside the cart because the light was on and there was someone inside. The guy working eventually came out and told everyone he wasn’t opening tonight and walked away. My husband went to a few different food trucks to get something else, and the even people working at those were complaining about how whoever runs this place apparently doesn’t give a damn about keeping to their hours of operation. Supposedly, they can only be depended on to be open on the weekends(Again, this is coming from other people who own food trucks in the same area). I won’t be going back. It’s not worth it to drive out there just to find out that someone decided they didn’t want to work that day.

I don’t rate service, ambiance, cleanliness and wait times; they are too variable. I can put up with anything if the food is good. It is all about the food– that’s it. All of my ratings are based on vegan options only. Notes: Chicken pie one was not good. Berry one was good.

Whiffles provides the allure of a showman. Right inside Cartopia, they bring their own touch on little pies that look like seashells. They kick things up a notch and provide unique ingredients, providing an American version of the reverence that foreign destinations have for their own little filled pastries. I went up to the cart and ordered the bacon mac & cheese pie. After eight minutes, the pie came at a cost of $ 5. When I bit into it, the taste was fairly impressive. The flavor was well mixed and the mac and cheese added something beneficial. It was very hot for much of the time. It wasn’t mind-blowing, but it was worth it. Our locality has allowed for lots of innovation and in a world of countless versions of these treats, it’s only fitting that Portland has brought a new innovation that can be as pleasurable as newly sliced bread to the world. Whiffles pies are a good treat to have on occasion.

Love this cart. The pot pie is so fresh and the crust is perfectly done. I loved their chicken pot pie and their veggie pie. They also accept bit coins which is awesome.

Got an email from a friend and was told, «You have to have a Wiffie Pie» So we did! Had 5 ranging from berry to peanut butter and they were good. Would like to have had some whipped crème or powdered sugar but that is not a reason to not have one.

Bbq beef and cheese pie was so yummy ! The pot pie is lacking a little bit of flavor. I also had the mounds pie and it was delicious.

I’m really confused as to why this place has such great reviews. The service was just fine, but the product? Not good at all. Maybe you have to be drunk to actually think this tastes good? Maybe I came on an off day? Who knows? I feel betrayed. I got the apple pie, which I felt was a pretty safe and foolproof choice. Well, no. The crust was just… really bad. It was dry, bland, and had a slightly bitter taste. Unfortunately you have to take multiple bites of this crap to get to what I had hoped would be the best part. Well, it was the best part of the pie, but it wasn’t good at all in terms of pies. It’s hot as hell and terribly boring just like the crust. I felt like I was eating mostly flavorless goo that had the slight taste of cinnamon with a few chunks of apple thrown in there. Where was the flavor? Not in this pie. I could’ve easily thrown it out after just a few bites, but I felt like maybe if I kept eating it would get better. It didn’t. The apple empanada at Taco Bell is cheaper and about ten times better than this, which is really saying something. My two friends who accompanied me felt the same disappointment and they tried different flavors. One of my friends had stomach pains the entire next day. Hmm. Maybe I’ll return someday in hopes that they’re actually better than what I experienced and it was just a bad day for them.

Lol at the guy who in his review compared these things to a hot pocket. Really? You’ve had better hot pockets? I rolled my eyes so hard they fell out of my head. $ 5 for a meat stuffed fried piece of dough that will satisfy your junk food craving is a steal in my opinion. I do want to note that mine was not greasy at all and I found it reasonably sized. We had the brisket and cheese one and it did not disappoint.

Meat pies, sweet pies? Why not? Fried goodness is always a win in my book. Whiffies is easily identifiable in the low light of Cartopia due to the bright colors of the cart. Super friendly staff member that did everything right, despite working by himself and serving a group of people at once. I ordered the beef brisket since that seemed to be the buzz. The drawing of the size is a Whiffie. For the size and price of $ 5, I expected great flavors, texture, and experience. The experience of the novelty is there. I mean, meat pockets have been have been around forever and fried meat pockets? Forget about it! The brisket was tender but flavors were less than bold. The sauce was proportionate to the meat but at $ 5 at pop, I likely won’t be back for a savory bite. I may be back for a sweet bite, given the right combination. Bonus points for accepting Bitcoin.

I tried a bite of a sweet pie my friend got and enjoyed it! * Oregon Mixed Berry Combo(Strawberry, raspberry, blueberries, marionberry. $ 4) — 4 stars pic: The crust was buttery and flaky, and I liked that the filling was sharp and tart, not overly sweetened! Menu:

The brisket Pie with Cheese is wonderful. I also tried the Chocolate peanut butter pie and it was quite delectable. New sweets craving for me for sure. BTC accepted!!!

Here is a tip: if you order the mounds chocolate and coconut pie let it cool before eating! If you try to chow down on it right away all the chocolate oozes out and you are left just eating fried dough with chocolate sauce all over your hands, clothes, and face while everyone around you judges you.

To be fair, they do have an «actual size» drawing of their pies posted, but I hadn’t noticed it before I ordered. Had I seen it, I wouldn’t have wasted $ 5 on a tiny snack in the first place. A friend got pizza from another cart and it was somehow ready before my $ 5 pot pie hot pocket. Once I got it, it was greasy and not very good at all. Also tiny. I don’t even know if it was the size of the one pictured. I’ve had better hot pockets. and those come with 2 in a package! This is a great food cart pod. Do yourself a favor and spend your money someplace else.

Peanut butter chocolate pudding in a fried pie? Hells to the yes. Pretty self-explanatory stuff. Yums-town filling inside fluffy deep-fried crust. All the dessert pies are vegan! Gotta try the Mounds next time…

We came here on a Friday night and got an apple and a mixed berry pie. They are fried to order, so it takes a few minutes for you to get your pies. Definitely wait a while to eat the scorching pie. I liked the berry one more than the apple. Overall, it was decent. I like the fact that they are open until 3AM.

I randomly wandered into an area of food trucks upon the advice of a friend. I wasn’t really convinced to try anything here upon my first circle around the area, but someone eating one of their pies recommended their chicken pie. It looked warm and the person that was eating it was totally selling it, so I had the chance to take a few warm bites. They also let me make a cider tea when I couldn’t decide if I wanted hot cider or tea. Upon my purchase, I promptly spilled it all over when I was trying to introduce it to my newfound friend. They were very nice and gave me another cider tea. My advice to you is to not make cider tea.

My friend and I tried this place, late night-early morningish, after a bar-type excursion, which seems to be when many people go to this place. I suspect this is why it has such high reviews. Bleary-eyed and confused, many people may mistake anything deep fried for culinary masterpieces. Unfortunately, for the mostly sober, Whiffies is pretty awful. I concur with the other review’s eloquent statement: «You must be drunk.» I was taken to this foodcart pod, not against my will, but without really much say in the matter. I was basically just told that we were going to get poutine. Well, that’s pretty dandy. But as we were eating poutine, I saw the Whiffies cart, which has been on my «must try» list for some time because of my goal to try every supposed best pie in all of Portland(every pie! all of the pies!). And then put every pie on my Unilocal pie list. I informed my friend of this, and he said, «Well, it’s good to have hobbies,» in a way that indicated he thought mine was slightly above collecting munchkin cats. However, he’s a friend, and he yielded to my unhealthy indulgence disguised as a hobby. We ordered the 3 berry pie and the bacon macaroni and cheese pie(which sounded so incredible… molten macaroni and cheese and crispy bacon oozing together in a golden pie shell? I could hardly wait!). The pies were hot and freshly fried, which is great. I love a nice empanada. We attacked it right away. Well kinda. My friend is delicate and tender and, much like baby bear, easily cowed by food that is too hot. So if you’re a baby bear sort too, beware. I, being made of sterner stuff, was very willing to singe my fingers again and again to dig into the molten pie goo. In the name of food research and all. But then I was quickly disappointed. While the crust was golden and flaky, it tasted distinctly of oil. It was almost all I could taste. The pie filling was bland and almost flavorless, basically a purple blob with a few assorted berries studding the molten mess. «This is horrible,» I said to my friend. «Well, it’s not HORRIBLE. It’s bland and mediocre and I’ve had better filling from cans, but it’s not HORRIBLE,» defended my friend, once the pie had cooled to lukewarm. I pointed out, though, that saying he had canned filling better than this was essentially giving it a rating of «horrible.» He had to agree to this logic, and we graciously gave this pie a rating of C(due to its nice texture). We then decided to try the other pie to see if it tasted as distinctly of oil. Unfortunately, it tasted much worse. The crust did indeed taste of oil. However, the filling was so awful, it overwhelmed even the awful oil crust. It was just rank. We ended up throwing most of the pie away. The filling was far from cheesy(which was such a disappointment since we had imagined golden lava flows of cheese. Instead, though, it was clotted noodles studded with peas). My friend wondered if there was even bacon inside, or just ham. We dissected the pie, since it was pretty much inedible to discover there was — unfortunately, it didn’t even seem parbaked first, just raw, giving it an awful, strange taste that pervaded the pie. The aftertaste truly was strange and bordered on rancid. While the berry pie had given us hope that the next pie might be an improvement, the macaroni and cheese pie assured both of us that we would not ever want to eat here again. I know though that I’m the minority in feeling this way. I suppose the key is we just hadn’t consumed enough alcohol before ordering our pies. Well, onward and upward to find more and better Portland pies.

I have been loving the Hell out of these fried pies for three years now. I don’t know why I withheld the fifth star back in 2009 when I first reviewed them. I’m giving it up willingly and happily now to rectify that terrible wrong. I don’t eat Whiffies all the time, but I think about them often. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve woken up at 2:30 a.m. and thought«I can still get to Whiffies before they close!» Unfortunately, I’m usually not in driving condition. Their dough remains a wonderful balance of flaky, salty, and sweet, and their sweet fillings remain the stuff of dreams. Oregon berry is the ultimate of all the pies, in my opinion, though I also enjoy the apple. Whiffies is the perfect late night snack, and any evening is made better by having gone there. If you manage to save some for breakfast the next day, well then you’re off to a great start that day as well. Damn. I wish they were open for breakfast…

YOUMUSTBEDRUNK. Really. I figured I’d give this place a try since the reviews said wonderful things, but thanks a lot Unilocal, you’ve finally steered me wrong for the first time. My friend and I tried the panda Whiffie, which was chocolate and white chocolate, and it tasted like warm chocolate pudding that was deep fried in a greasy pouch. Maybe the real problem is that we were both sober and wanting real food at 7:30 on a Tuesday night. I mean, I love well made fried foods, but a Whiffie is not one of those things. I can picture the chicken pot pie Whiffie being tasty, but that will have be the next time I get dragged to that food cart. I imagine it would be like baking a chicken pot pie then throwing it in the deep fryer. Enjoy.
