I suspected I needed my breaks changed and was done taking my car to corporate break chains where I had to take my car back within the month because something went wrong.
Brought my car here, he reaffirmed I needed my breaks done, I asked him to also change my oil, and it was done! Fast, excellent service. It’s been a couple months and I have 0 problems. I will always come here for my car’s needs!

I LOVE this place! Ron is hilarious! Wally is also a great guy! Great shop! I have taken 3 cars to them. ’95 ford mustang. A Corolla and my housemate took Ron to her car a Nissan. They have fixed the Mustang about 3 times now and have looked at each of our cars for free!
The nissan was an easy fix here’s what my housemate said about it: «My car wouldn’t start today, luckily we live next to a car repair place! A nice guy named Ron helped me out, was an easy fix, and didn’t let me give him any gratuity. Instead I supplied him with chocolate chip cookies, and mini cinnamon buns for his sweet tooth, along with a gift card to Target to thank him. He didn’t have to help me out but he did, and was extremely nice and pleasant!!»
The Corolla was taken to the dealership for some TLC and I wanted to make sure it didn’t have any recalls. The Dealership said it was going to be close to $ 3,500 total for everything to fix. Well that wasn’t going to happen, so I walked next door to Wally’s. I told Ron what happened and gave him the paperwork from the dealership. His jaw hit the floor. He took in the car. Told me what was a real issue and what wasn’t. They cleaned up the oil leakage, fixed what needed to be fixed and all for under $ 220! And the part came in the next day!
The ford is just a bunch of random fixes, but still Ron has gone the extra mile everytime!
I doubt any other repair shop would go as far as they do! Awesome guys to work with and to live next too
They even respect my property and have their customers do as well!!! The previous owners of the shop did not.

Called and mentioned the problem, spoke about it, agreed on the job, it was fixed, no fake «problem» stories or discoveries and picked it up. pretty straight forward.

Wally’s Auto Service is the best. We take our both our personal and fleet vehicles to them anytime we have an issue. Service is fast prices are reasonable and they get you back up and running in no time at all. Wouldn’t take our cars to anyone else.

These people are so kind and helpful! I only spoke with them over the phone about my vans issues and they took the time to look over my paperwork from previous mechanic and give me advice based off that. Most places won’t really give you any info until they see you in person (and charge you the diagnostic fee). But they took the time to call me back twice and give me advice over the phone. I will for sure be using them in the future!

I came to Wally’s Halsey Auto Service (NOT to be confused with ‘Halsey Auto Repair’ which is actually located on Halsey) after a trip to my local Honda dealer where they were to fix a simple recall item on my ignition switch. The dealer (please read my review on Dick Hannah Honda, who, spoiler alert, totally live up to their first name) also did a «safety inspection» which, surprise surprise, turned up a number of issues with my Element that needed immediate attention.
I did a little due diligence, not being from the area, and found Wally’s Auto service. I called, made an appointment for the next day and took my car in to let Wally take a look at the items that the dealer had said needed attention, some of them I was sure the dealer was wrong about, others I wasn’t so sure, and being on a road trip, needed to get a second opinion.
I could not have found a better mechanic. Wally first took my car for a drive and then put it up on the lift. While I chatted with Lynne (Wally’s wife) in the front office for a few minutes, Wally checked out my car. He then took me back in to the mechanic’s bay and showed me all how all the various issues the dealer had warned me of, were nothing to worry about. He carefully took me around the car and showed me a few things that I should keep an eye on, and debunked all of the dealer’s claims.
Whereas the dealer’s list of problems totaled over $ 1200 in repairs, Wally said that there was nothing really wrong with my car and I happily paid him $ 35 for that information. Wally has been working on cars in his garage for over 30 years now according to Lynn, and he carries himself with the humbleness of someone who really knows what they’re doing.
I was done in less than 45 minutes from the time I got there, but ended up talking with the other mechanic, Wally’s partner Ron, about motorcycles and life and what have you. Overall a wonderful experience with a new mechanic shop, and how many times can you say that?
I only wish I lived in the area so that I could call Wally’s Halsey Auto Service my regular mechanic, truly a great shop with honest and fair mechanics.

What an incredible group of guys. My clutch went out on my road trip from NorCal to Portland and to my great fortune, Wally’s turned out to be right next door to my hotel (Econolodge). I called them right at opening on Thursday, they inspected the car and had an analysis ready for me in a couple hours. After I declined service at first (out of fear of lack of funds), I called them back with my dilemma; I had to have it done by Friday at the earliest (otherwise I would miss work), they said they would do everything they could to get it done by noon.
They called me at 9am Friday morning to say they finished! These awesome guys stayed late Thursday and came in early on Friday to get me back home in time! Wally showed me my busted old clutch so I understood the repair better, and introduced me to Rob, who helped take care of me.
I have a repair shop at home, but these guys are on another level of service. They deeply care about their work and the people they help get back on the road, and it shows in their genuine demeanor. The repair was VERY fairly priced too. I was worried I might get over charged in that classic «out of towner» situation, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. They charged me 800 total, which is relatively cheap considering my quote from my good friend at a local Honda dealership was close to 1200.
If you live in Portland, thank your lucky stars you have these guys around to take care of you. Bring them a coffee and a box of donuts, they deserve much more but that’s a good start! Thanks again guys!

I was having some issues with my ’83 VW Rabbit and decided to take it to a professional. Ron was able to diagnose and treat my baby almost over the phone. He did exactly what I asked for and went the extra mile to help my Rabbit run better than she ever has before. The whole experienced left me feeling overjoyed; not something I usually associate with a mechanic. There is something to say for years of experience! I have since sent a friend here and she had an equally satisfying experience.

I called Wally’s today after seeing them in a Parkrose Community magazine. I had a flashing light on my dashboard (2004 Jetta), and they were able to help me out on a Friday afternoon. I explained that I was planning a road trip and wanted to be sure to not break down on the way. I barely waited an hour while they scanned the computer and checked everything out.
Turns out the cap for my coolant was off (oh thanks Oil Can Henry’s), and the level was down. He went the extra steps and checked for leaks and good pressure. The charges were minimal. I am so glad to find a local, honest shop with caring mechanics. I will be back, and I doubt I’ll ever pay for dealership service again! :) Thanks so much!
