This was my favorite Thai restaurant in Portland before they closed. Honestly some of the best soy«meat» I’ve ever had. I used to bring everyone I knew here, none of which were vegan/vegetarian and they always loved it. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Why did they close? Did they open a different restaurant anywhere else since then? I miss them horribly.

I really love this restaurant. The employees are great! They’re super attentive and everyone seems to remember you from just coming in a couple of times. I don’t usually like mock chicken, but holy smokes there’s is amazing. Like, I could eat my body weight in it. My partner and I usually get pad kee mao and yellow curry, always substituting veggies(for which they never charge, like Cha Ba Thai). 100% the number one food I miss now that I’m away from Portland.

Love the place but… Closed on Wednesday now and only way to find that out is to drive and see the little note on the sign?!? Not on their site or Unilocal.Planned on serving this for a bday party, on Wednesday… If your going to change your hours then make sure it’s listed or at least have a answering machine with days/hours on it…

Pad Thai was bland with almost no veggies. Tasted like noodles and ketchup. Also got our order wrong by making it with egg when we ordered it vegan.

Came here for lunch one day and really enjoyed the small, cozy atmosphere. I got the feeling that after a few visits the staff would know your name by heart(and those are my favorite kind of places.) After my girlfriend and I ordered an appetizer and a couple of lunch specials, we also received some complimentary corn soup(which was really tasty.) The lunch special portions were quite large and the Pra Ram was delicious. Would definitely go back when I’m in the area again.

I don’t rate service, ambiance, cleanliness and wait times; they are too variable. I can put up with anything if the food is good. It is all about the food– that’s it. All of my ratings are based on vegan options only. Notes: What is unique to Vege Thai is that they have delicious mock meats, so I would only go there when I am craving that. Otherwise, there are much better thai food restaurants in Portland.

Amazing food and great service. Some dishes aren’t vegan, but it’s not an issue at all to make things vegan. We will definitely be going here again.

After only going here once I can confidently say we will be back. The service was good but we also went in for a late lunch so there was only one other table. We had veggie sushi rolls and pad Thai with fake chicken for me and fake steak for my dude. Everything was really good. Great menu for vegans.

Very fast, awesome for take out. Staff is friendly. As a meat eater, I usually would rather opt for all veggies instead of substituting for tofu or another protein, but the tofu salad rolls were fantastic. I can’t do too spicy so I ordered the Panang Curry which was a little sweeter than I typically like but still good.

I love this place. As a vegan, I would always come here. Everything is amazing! Especially the BBQ tofu and soy chicken nuggets. Even my non vegan friends like it. Thumbs up, guys.

Living next door to this wonderful place, I would eat here every day if my wallet(and my stomach) allowed. The family that runs this place are salt of the earth. And their food!!! No meat, so sorry to all the strict carnivores.

On a cold night or a warm day, this fresh and delicious Thai restaurant has all of the amazing dishes, without the fish sauce and additives. The décor is quite outdated, but everything you put in your mouth makes up for it. The servers are all a pleasant breath of fresh air. If you’ve never tried the Tom Kha, you’ve never lived! I make it a point to come here at least once a week. Every time I leave feeling light and extremely satisfied!

Swoon, Tom Kha soup with any vegetarian protein one could want :) hearty spring rolls, incentive teas(artichoke? Turmeric? Wow) and a serenely decorated environment. I love it! So many good choices. It is on my list!

It was a Sunday night, and we’d waited a little tooooo long to go out to dinner. Everything seemed to be closed. Then — Vege Thai appeared. Hmmm, worth a shot, we thought. And — — - — - — - it was a slam dunk! Our waiter, Forest, was out-of-the-park perfect, for starters. A true connoisseur, plus a true«people person», his suggestions hit the spot perfectly, while his style kept us amused and comfortable. The food he chose for us(try it, he’s good!) was downright fascinating, especially with all the yummy sauces he brought out for us.

I really wanted to try this place out before leaving Portland and I’m glad I got to. Thai food is in my top 3 of favorite cuisines and as a vegetarian, too often my options are limited or a little shady at most Thai places. Upon entering the restaurant, the server made us feel very welcome. She was very friendly and helpful. She pointed out almond milk or coconut milk were available with the Thai Iced Tea and Coffee and brought us out extra rice since we split a dish. The fresh salad rolls were great and their peanut sauce may be my favorite of all time. It is served just a little warm, which just seems to heighten the flavor. We split the Thai Basil dish with soy chicken and both were pleased with the flavor and the amount of food served. I would definitely return.

I got the pad se ew and it was really good. Our server was incredibly prompt and friendly. He brought out pixie tangerines with our check, and then came back to give us fortune cookies. Good food, good service.

I REALLY wanted to like this place, but based on our first(and only) trip there, I just CAN’T. But first, I’ll mention the positives. The food we had were actually pretty decent. Not the best, in a city overflowing with Thai restaurants, but still ok. Mediocre. And the fact that the whole menu is vegetarian or could be made vegan is a plus. Also, my boyfriend mentioned how his Thai iced tea might be the best he’d had(mostly because of the coconut milk.) ONTOTHEBADSTUFF. As soon as we got there, we got this weird vibe from the waiter, like there’s something weird about us and that he doesn’t want to serve us or something. It’s hard to explain, but it was weird. We got seated, waited for a while, and didn’t even get any water. It was like he was avoiding us or something. And I KNOW he was doing this on purpose because a few other people went in after us and they immediately got their waters. STRIKEONE. So when the waiter finally got back to us to take our drink and food orders(I just ordered water while bf got the aforementioned Thai iced tea), it took forever for him to get our drinks. It wasn’t busy at all, and there was another person helping him, so there’s no excuse. People that went in after us got their waters and their other drinks before us. By this time, we were both getting really irritated, because what the hell! We didn’t know why he wasn’t getting our drinks to us quick enough. STRIKETWO. Also, while waiting for the water, I saw him bussing a table in front of us. He took away a semi full glass of water. I thought to myself, «I hope he doesn’t serve me that water ha ha.» I mean, of course, I THOUGHT he wasn’t going to do so because it’s just the right thing to do, right? Haha, wrong! When he FINALLY got our drink orders out, I was 99% bleeping sure that was the glass of water he took from that previous table. And I know why because there was a lip mark on the glass, if you look closely enough, there was a small piece of something floating, and there were bubbles on the side of the glass, you know, when water has been sitting still for a while. Also, he didn’t even give my boyfriend a glass of water. I thought this was the standard, but I guess not for us! STRIKEEFFINGTHREE. Actually, after he brought out the food, the service started improving. However, I just couldn’t get over the first half of our time there. He made us feel unwelcome for some reason. I mean, we were dressed decently. We didn’t look like hobos! We weren’t going to dine and dash! And we were still nice and said thank you when he served us our food/drinks. I just didn’t and still don’t understand why we were treated so differently. Either way, we’re not gonna be back.

I’ve changed my mind about VegeThai! My girlfriend and I have gone a handful of times in recent months. We really like the tempeh salad rolls, pad see ew and pad woon sen(sans egg of course). The black rice pudding with coconut milk is delicious for dessert. I used to only go to VegeThai for a Meetup or if somebody REALLY wanted to go there. I’m not really sure what has changed, but it’s been significantly for the better. Our service has been super friendly too.

Pig Out Part I: *birthday dresses and coconut thai iced tea* A friend and I planned to come here for her birthday — since they do free birthday meal(!). But it was a holiday and they were closed(noooooo). Meghan and I had a wonderful meal down the street, instead, and then bought lots of cheap dresses down the street. Then on the way back, vegethai was open(!!!) so we had a light dinner part deux(had returned from a beach trip early, and decided to open for customers). it was worth it. soooo delicious, and such a deal(then, delicious on day two when we both had thai leftovers for lunch). Pig Out Part II: *homework and spicy wide noodles* With fond memories of a thai menu that i can order(anything i darn please) from, we returned to vegethai! First I spent nearly an hour doing homework and drinkin tea. Then, we ate noodles and stir fry until we were stuffed. The service was spectacular, the restaurant was uncrowded, and the green atmosphere oh so pleasant. Looking forward to my next visit.
