I don’t know who the other customers dealt with, but Scott (I believe was his name) was super nice when helping me out.

Great Managment! The manager took time to hear my concerns and was proactive to engage with me in a positive way. Based on this experience I do recommend them. They are priced right for the location.

This is the worst place that there is to rent a storage unit in Portland. The staff is extremely rude and will lie to your face. I sure the people that gave good reviews are employees! How many people can name everyone that works at their storage unit? Sure they have cheap rents but the place is a furnace in the summer and the staff is the rudest I’ve ever seen. I’ve been dealing with the public for the last 20 years and this group of people is the worst I’ve ever dealt with. They say on sign out side open until 7pm but that’s a lie! You have to be out of there at 6:30. That’s ridiculous most people are not off work until 5pm and would be rushing to make it by then. Then on the weekend when people are most likely to be going to a storage unit they close at 3:30! On Sundays they are only open from 12pm until 3:30pm. Tonight I brought a cart with some boxes that I had to pull about 25 blocks all I was going to do was push the cart into the unit and lock the door. I got there according to my watch with 8 minutes to spare. As I’m getting on elevator one of the female employees says I only have two minutes until 6:30. I told her no problem I was just going to push the cart into unit than leave. I wouldn’t even need two minutes. I take elevator two second floor and go to enter code and it won’t work. My clock said I had 6 minutes until 6:30. I tell girl working in it won’t open and she says that it took me to long to get up there. There’s no way it took two minutes to get there. I ask her if she could buzz me in and that I would only be 15 seconds. I didn’t want to have to push the cart another 25 blocks back home. (Once before I was one or two minutes late and the guy working buzzed me in so I could drop the stuff off.) She says no that she could not do that! It wasn’t like I was keeping her at work longer they stay open until seven in the office and all she would have had to do is push a button! She is a horrible liar and couldn’t even look me in the eye. I have three unites here and I’m moving them as soon as I can! They will be loosing about 3000 $ a year from the way they have treated me. Tonight by no means was the only time I experienced bad or rude treatment from them but it was the straw that broke the camels back! Don’t rent from this place trust me you will regret it.

The facilities are clean and well maintained. And, the prices are reasonable. In addition, Vern was super helpful and tried to get us the exact right space for our business needs — which he did.
I’d recommend this facility to anyone needing a clean, safe, affordable storage unit in NE Portland.

Plenty of other storage options in Portland. This company and their employees are the worst.

This is hands down the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I will NEVER rent a unit with this company because of how poorly I was treated.
I recently moved up to Portland with my roommate after we both attended UO. We were lucky and found out that her aunt was willing to sublease her apartment to us, on the contingency that we find our own method of storage for the things of hers that we wouldn’t be using.
This shouldn’t be an important part of my experience with this U-​Store location, but it is. When we spoke to the person I assume is the manager at this location, he was incredibly rude from the get-​go. He told us that the specials advertised online didn’t apply to walk ins. That was super annoying. He then proceeded to ask what we needed a storage unit for, so we told him we needed room for some furniture and boxes, nothing serious.
This is where the experience goes from bad to disgusting. The manager told us that our story wasn’t satisfactory and that we weren’t giving him enough information. So we told him that it was her aunt’s furniture and we were moving it for her, but that we would be paying for the unit as she was subleasing to us. He abruptly interrupts us, telling us that we would have to have her there to secure a unit. He treated us like criminals and I felt nauseous after the way he spoke to us. I let him know that there was nothing sketchy about it, but since her aunt had moved we had no way of physically getting her in there to vouch for us.
At this point, the man literally laughed in our face and told us he wouldn’t allow that as we could easily be criminals stealing her things. As if criminals funnel furniture directly into overpriced storage units. If this is a policy for storage companies, fine. We could have easily found a way to give this place our business and have gotten the aunt’s permission. Instead, this man chose to raise his voice to two young adult women and get in our faces, accusing us of being criminals. It was disgusting, and I wouldn’t have wanted to rent from them after that anyway. I wouldn’t have felt safe going to my unit.
Bottom line: I don’t care what your policy is, if you treat potential customers this way, you should be called out. I was sick to my stomach after this interaction and should have gotten his name to call their corporate office. I can’t tell you enough, but this place does not deserve your business. Just so you know who he is, this man is probably in his forties and has a lazy eye. AVOID HIM IF YOU MUST RENT HERE, but seriously DON’T RENT HERE.

Pros: They have great prices on storage units, a good variety of sizes, quick/​easy sign up, secure access, and video monitoring for security
Cons: extremely hot during the summer, floors are uneven so it’s hard to roll the carts at times, and the place is so big it can take a long time to get to your unit.
Overall, I would recommend!

My husband & I stopped in to check out a unit for storage. Immediately the «manager» was acting as though we were a complete waste of his time. His condescending voice made that very clear.
He continued to ask specifically «what» we were placing in the unit. We gave a brief description & asked about a specific size. He obviously couldn’t figure it out due to his continued same questions over and over. He was more interested in what «exactly» we were putting in the unit. The way he continued to speak to us was completely unprofessional and rude. He then stated that he deals with «walk ins» all the time that are just «shopping» around. Yeah, really? Isn’t that what people come looking for storage units do?
We stated to him that we have already have a storage unit, & we just want to move closer to town. And how rude he was being over simple questions. We declined, and I mentioned to him it would make life a little easier, and that customers like us would have a better experience if he was nicer.
My husband also then mentioned that he had originally called on the phone for the same information & had the same experience.
Must be there way of great customer service.

From my first call of interest to now 8 months storing my things here, I have always received excellent customer service. Josh, Vern and Mariah are all very kind and helpful. I visit ever so often to get things out of my unit and feel comfortable navigating the building. It is true that the building is not your nicer unit, it’s long history has given it character, but the affordable rates and great staff have made me a very happy renter. Thanks Josh and staff for always being friendly & helpful.

I spoke to Josh on the phone this afternoon about renting a unit while I’m in a transitional period. He was extremely knowledgable and I didn’t feel rushed off the line (the case with most places I called). He also seemed genuinely interested in finding me the best situation for myself, financially as well as with the units available.
I will be moving my stuff in and I feel really good about it being here. And that is all I wanted! Thanks josh and u store.

Had great experience renting here for the past two summers. My daughter attends college in Portland and we are out of state. They were friendly, got us a great unit, gave us a free month both times. Yes the person who signs up has to close it but it wasn’t a hassle. Love the old train carts for handling stuff. Never a problem. We just stuffed it and came back four months later. Love the freight elevator. I had twenty something helpers to schlep stuff and they liked the building the carts and the elevator. Very manly.

This place doesn’t deserve any stars at all. We tried going there twice (2 separate days) the first day we got there at 6:15pm and were told they close at 6:30 (they don’t. The website says 7pm and so does the huge sign painted on the wall going into the office) the guy rudely told my boyfriend he couldn’t help us because it takes longer than 15 minutes to fill out paperwork. So we left, went back the next day. There was a guy on his computer and said someone would be with us when they weren’t busy. Sooo about 10 minutes later the same guy came up to the counter and asked if we had made a reservation and we said no, he continued to look through the paperwork then tell us they didn’t have any paperwork for us (duh! We had just told him we don’t make reservations) Then he asked my boyfriend what we were storing and my boyfriend said «I just need to know what size units you have available» the guy ignored his question and asked the same one he had asked before again. So my boyfriend asked him the question again and then the guy goes «alright I’m going to ask you this question one more time» in a very rude and condescending voice, so I chimed in and told him we would go elsewhere if he was going to treat his customers so poorly. The guy rudely said «well this dude can’t even answer a simple question» and I told him he apparently couldn’t answer one either and then called him some choice names. And then walked out. The whole experience was horrible and I would never use this place, nor recommend anyone else to.

Been renting from them for 10 years and the courtesy is amazing. Lost my keys and they took the time to call me when found. It is the old Barker Manufacturing building and they are doing a great job of updating an old building.

Sure, they aren’t the Ritz of Self Storage, but trust me they could definitely be worse!
I just rented a unit at this location and they have been nothing but nice and super helpful with anything I need!
I was originally planning on renting a 10×10 unit, but Shasta had me look at a 9.5×14 while I was there. The 9.5×14 is larger than the 10×10 that I was originally interested in, but it cost less. Needless to say I chose to pass on the 10×10 unit! He sold me on a less expensive unit because he knew it would work better for me!
Yes their carts are old and may need a little work, but it’s not like you’re living there! You use them for 10 minutes to 2 hours then you’re done! They worked perfect for me and I was there for close to 2 hours putting almost my entire apartment into storage!
Since we had a long trailer to haul all of my stuff over there, they opened one of the large loading bays for us to use, they even brought us carts form the main loading area. But the part that just takes the service above and beyond… We couldn’t get my couch into the unit. We tried the way that they suggested, but my couch was just too big. The unit across from mine was vacant (I could tell by the lock) and they opened it to give us the space we needed to get my couch into my unit!
They could have just said too bad and moved on, but they didn’t! Everyone that I’ve seen working there has been nothing but nice and helpful!
The units are divided by coded gates and I have NO PROBLEM with my personal belongings being in that building! I always feel safe because there are cameras everywhere and you see maybe two (2) other tenants the whole time you’re there!
I recommend it!
P. S.: you can pay by credit card over the phone! Huge plus for me!

I’ve only rented one storage space prior to this. It was based on location. I showed up, got a space, and it was a done deal. It was a nice place, nothing special, just how I expect all storage facilities to look. Apparently that is not the case. When we started looking for one in Portland, we turned down two because they were so terrible looking. We finally settled on U-​Store, but in the end it was a bad idea and we should have kept looking.

It’s sketchy. I never felt comfortable going to the storage unit without my husband. The building is ancient and gross. Everytime I go in there, I think of how that would be a good place for Dexter to kill someone. All of their carts are falling apart too.
You can’t pay monthly on your credit card. This is 2010. Come on. Our alternative to that was to have the bank automatically send the check to arrive on the 1^st of every month. Along comes Memorial Day weekend and the check arrives one whole day late. We get a $ 10 fee. Really? Screw that.
The employees are rude.
To make it frustrating to close the account, they only allowed one person on the account when we signed up, meaning that that person had to be there to officially close it even though we both had access.
I’m happy to say that we’ve finally found a place we like at A-​1.
