Before you graze over my review please consider Happy Feet Cat Grooming on SE Raymond ST and call for an appointment at 503−747−8811 INSTEAD of this groomer.
I recently moved to the Laurelhurst neighborhood and this groomer is very close to my home. I have two cats that require regular grooming (full body shaves) which are typically $ 75 – 80 per cat. The grooming staff did an excellent job, I only wish the older woman working as the receptionist knew how to be a courteous human being.
Within 30 seconds of walking in the door and speaking with this woman I felt extremely irritated and offended. She has an overly condescending tone and made me feel very unwelcome. I brushed it off as it was early in the morning and she could have been very busy. When I cam back to pick up my pets in the afternoon it was more of the same.
It’s unfortunate that this groomer didn’t work out as they’re so close. I’ll be returning to my regular groomer who does just as fabulous of a job and is a very pleasant person to speak to and have handling your pets.

I was in a crunch to find a kennel for my puppy back in May (2015) when I was going out of town on short notice. Townhouse was the only place with availability for Memorial Day weekend so although hesitant because I hadn’t done much research, I gave in and boarded Macha there for the weekend. Upon our return I picked up a clean, happy dog. I asked about how she behaved while she was there, as she is a high energy puppy, and the staff assured me she was great. I was pleased. From then on I continued to use Townhouse for our boarding and grooming needs, and each time the staff assured me Macha had been well behaved in her time there. I was under the impression this was a great place for our dog to stay. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, December 14^th to be exact, and my entire world flipped upside down with this place. I had made a reservation at the very beginning of December for Macha to stay at Townhouse for the week of Christmas. I was flying out of town Sunday ¹²⁄₂₀ and would be gone through Saturday ¹²⁄₂₆. A WEEK before I was to leave for my trip, when I was already under all of the stress of the holidays, I receive a call from the owner of Townhouse saying that they’d «prefer if I find somewhere else for Macha to stay» because her «staff didn’t feel comfortable with her being there that long». I was appalled. I could not believe what she was telling me this a week before I was to go on a week-​long vacation. Needless to say I was panicked. I called around and of course everywhere was booked for the holidays. When I asked her further about why she was doing this, she kept bringing it back to Macha’s behavior, which had NEVER been brought up to me before. I ask every single time I go in there how she was for them and every single time they would say she was great! She always had good marks on her report cards. They even sent me a card in the mail with pictures of Macha and wrote about how they can’t wait until her next visit! Macha is very energetic, which may seem overwhelming to someone with no experience with puppies/​dogs, but she is very sweet and far from aggressive. The owner also kept insisting that this (cancelling on someone a week before their week-​long holiday trip) is «not how they do business» and «not a good thing to do». It obviously IS how they do business, because according to the Unilocal reviews that are scattered across this page I am not the first person to experience something like this! It seems that this woman’s STAFF is the issue, not my dog’s behavior. Maybe if she hired people that actually have professional experience with dogs and not a bunch of teenage girls, she would be a lot better off. I wish I had taken the time to look up reviews when I very first brought Macha here — I would have found out that their facilities are filthy, the dogs don’t get taken out very often, and the staff (as I now have personal experience with) is incredibly unprofessional and inexperienced. I am so disgusted with this place.
Needless to say, I will NOT be bringing Macha back to Townhouse, and I suggest you avoid a huge headache by avoiding it as well.

So I cannot actually review the facility itself because customer service was so poor I didn’t get that far. I called in mid October to reserve dates for my cat to board the week of Christmas. Got a call in early November asking for my deposit which I provided by phone, and my card was charged. Called today to verify the reservation. They didn’t have it. I asked why. I was told «our computer is outdated and loses things a lot.» Also was told they had an opening so I was all set with my new reservation. I asked for instructions on boarding and was given curt, partial answers. Called back later in the day to talk to the manager, who though she was nice enough, did nothing to increase my confidence in leaving my pet there. (If they can’t keep up with computer reservations, will they remember to feed my pet or the owner’s name?) Dogs were barking in the background and it sounded like total chaos. Twice mistakes were blamed on how busy they are. Thought my cat would lose her nerve with all those dogs barking continously. Very unimpressed! Cancelling my reservation with no intention of ever going there.

We needed to find a kennel real quick because of a last min flight out ofo em for a few days. I called a couple and they wouldn’t accept my little man because we didn’t want him in group settings with other male dogs. Townhouse had no problem with keeping him loved and away from the other animals.
When we picked him up he smelled absolutely amazing and somehow they were able to trim him nails!!! and they look better than they ever have. I’m seriously impressed. Everyone loved my big oof and seemed to be really genuine and kind. Will absolutely take him back and know he’ll dig it.

Carol groomed our cockapoos today and she did a great job. I feel like my animals are in good hands at Townhouse Pets. I’ll be back. Many thanks Carol!

Wow! The staff here are fantastic! Our dog Hank is a large Alaskan Husky mix that does not like to get his nails clipped. Though Hank put up resistance, the staff at Townhouse Pet Care Center was warm, positive, and efficient. They knew what they were doing. We’re going back and I’m telling my friends about their great service, too.

Seriously the most atrocious haircut a cat has ever received. I can’t believe I paid $ 70 to have my cat look like a ridiculous lion. Customer service is rude and please don’t ever go here: your pet will not look you in the face for days, even he/​she will know how silly they look.

Townhouse was able to take our adult dog for the weekend on short notice when we were in a bind. They were very professional, kind, and helpful! Our dog came back very tired and happy, and seemed excited to return!

I have been taking my dog (rat terrier) to Townhouse for 6 years. The staff is always very friendly and understanding of her special diet and needs. We have her nails trimmed and they give her a bath frequently.
We are so appreciative of the Townhouse team and would recommend them to anyone and have to many friends.

I was really put off by a terrible experience with the rude owner, but all of the employees (who are the ones doing all the work) are super passionate about keepin your lovely pets happy and healthy (and keeping you at ease, if you’re an anxious cat-​mom like me). I take my cat for nail trims and boarding and the employees are stellar caregivers. Don’t be put off by big boss lady – she’s not handling your pets, just your money. But boy could she use some customer service skills.

I dropped my Staffordshire Terrier off here for 5 days of boarding over the holidays. I called several times to check on her and was told she was eating fine, acclimating and doing ok. When I picked her up she had scabs all over her elbows and belly as well as looking like she had lost over 5 pounds, which I confirmed when I got home. I don’t know if they were lying or simply clueless but she wasn’t doing OK. Terrible care in my opinion & the casual way in which they talked about it was offensive to me. She was groomed at the end of her stay & even the marks on the grooming card ignored the injuries that she sustained there.

I take my German shepherd here once a month to get his nails trimmed. He was a rescue dog and the staff have always been so patient and kind with him. We can just walk in without an appointment and they take us every time. Going to try a full grooming next month.

I have taken my mini schnauzers here for years. Kathy is our groomed and we love her. She always comes and greets us and confirms what we want in grooming. She does a fantastic job. We didn’t realize how good until we stopped going due to a bad experience with the management.
When we dropped off our dog we were greeted by a group of teens. I was told that our groomed was very booked so our dog would not be ready until end of the day. When our dog was done they did not calling the correct number to let us know she was ready and they were closing at 4pm. Since we never had to pick our dog up at closing we thought they closed at 5 pm When i didn’t hear from them by 4 pm i called only to get a recording that they were closed! I tried calling multiple times, left messages and drove like a bat out of hell trying to get there. When I arrived the place was locked tight with no emergency contact number on their voice mail or posted on door. The adjacent Laurelhusrt vet office also did not have any contact information. Our dog had never been boarded before and needless to say I was extremely upset. I was even more upset when I noticed they were closed the next day
When I got home I received a message on our recorder that they would charge us for boarding! The next day they called and said we could pick our dog up. They apologized but nothing else. At a minimum I would have at least appreciated a call from the owner and a free grooming session to come back again. We had been going there for almost 14 years.
I believe our bad experience was due to the front desk being run by teenagers who were more interested in chatting and their phones than talking to the customer and confirming the number to call when the dog was ready. The previous manager Kim always confirmed numbers before you left and gave you an estimated time for pick up. We miss Kim.
We ended up taking our dog to Petco for grooming but I must say they do not do the great job that Kathy does. I wish we could have Kathy groom our dog somewhere else.

I have been boarding my dogs here since they were puppies. They are now 3 and 4.
I have 2 english bulldogs and they are always so happy when we walk in. Thats what matters to me, if they were not having a great experience, they would tell me.
We always call to check on them, staff is always nice. They keep a very nice and detailed chart. We always get the suite — which is a room with TV, couch, and space. The staff also sends a thank you card in the mail with a picture. So adorable. I love this place and I highly recommend.

I’ve been bringing my cat, Jackson, here for years. Sometimes she looks a little better than others after she’s done being given her Softpaws and her lion cut, but overall I’ve been pleased with the service. Even after I moved out of the area two years ago, I continued to bring Jackson to Townhouse because I’m the type of person who stays loyal to a business if they do a decent job.
Which brings me to today.
I called to make an appointment for the usual, and was told there was a note on Jackson’s file that she is «difficult,» and thus they could only groom her on a Monday. Which is weird, because I’ve never been told that she was difficult, and I’ve been bringing her in on Saturdays for a while now. So I told them that, and after being put on hold was told they could groom her next Saturday. Okeedokee, says I, let’s book it! Then she tells me 9am. As I mentioned, I don’t live in Portland-​proper anymore, so 9am is not as easy as it used to be. I told the chick on the phone that 9am wasn’t optimal because of the distance, and she says to me, «Well I don’t live in Portland either, but I’ll be here.»
Are you serious? I don’t care how far out of town you live, honestly. You’re being paid to come in and do your job, and it’s people like me who are paying for services who make that job possible for you. No thanks on your weird guilt trip or your terrible customer service.
I spent 10 minutes doing a Unilocal search for a new groomers, made an appointment, and will be bringing Jackson there instead from now on.

I brought my cat in on Saturday morning. I was excited to find a place nearby home where I could get his nails clipped. He is a polydactyl cat and it requires two people to get to his «hidden» toes and with him being a large breed cat I can no longer do it by myself. I was happy about quick service and a reasonable price.
Tonight I thought I would take a look at his feet and check where they are at since the nail clipping. I discovered several of his nails had been cut past the quick and am very upset about this as his claws are white/​clear and avoiding the quick shouldn’t be a problem. I now know he was hurt by this nail clipping which horrifies me.
I tried to call even though it was after hours to leave a message to let the people running this establishment know what a bad job was done on my cat’s claws. Low and behold I am expected to enter a mailbox number which I don’t have and I can’t even leave a message.
I will find somewhere else to take my cat. If you have a dog with dark claws don’t take them here. They over clipped my cats claws I am sure they would do the same to your dog.

Worst groom ever. I had been once before, and they had done a good job on my tiny teacup poodle. He was matted– but they didn’t even try to trim his hair or work through it. You can tell they buzzed him to the skin– might I add unevenly. The worst part is they CUT my dog– a perfect little «snip» into his leg, and said they «uncovered a wound– looks like he’s been working on it for a while so we put styptic powder on the bleeding». I would know if my dog has a bloody wound. Very unprofessional. Not to mention, I particularly requested them not to cut his bangs which they did. Gone. The icing on the cake is that they cut off my poodles Pom Pom tail. What groomer does that??? I’ll tell you: Carol at Townhouse. His feet had long wisps of hair that were left untrimmed– like they did him in a hurry and missed some spots. Not recommended at all. Very unhappy and I won’t be back.

We’ve taken our dogs to Townhouse Pet Care Center for nearly a year now, so I feel that I can honestly appraise their quality of care.
Our dogs always look fine after their service (hence the two stars).
However!
1. It takes a good 6 and a half hours to bathe and dry them (and the rest of the time, they’re stuck in crates).
2. Basic customer service skills are lacking to say the least! The manager is aloof, at best, and the groomer is unfriendly — not even bothering to say, hello, or greet us when we arrive or return to pick up our pups. With the exception of the nice young guy who works there, the rest of the staff seem resentful that they have to deal with anyone. We’ve experienced friendlier service at Burgerville (and it’s a lot cheaper, too!).
3. It’s strange; the staff doesn’t seem to like animals!!!
For $ 80+, we want good service, attentive care for everyone, especially our dogs. Our dogs are ALWAYS afraid to come here, which is a really bad sign.
In short, I would never recommend Townhouse Pet Care Center to anyone wanting a place where the staff cares.

I’ve always been happy with Townhouse’s bathing/​grooming of our Pembroke Welsh Corgi, but she’s pretty easy to deal with: normal pet hair, good disposition, etc. But when we got our Keeshond puppy, Banjo, that’s when Townhouse really impressed me. These are fluffy-​furred beasts that can be quite tricky to groom properly. Not only that, but since he’s only a puppy, he’s not wholly accustomed to being bathed and brushed yet.
Well, Townhouse did an absolutely perfect job with him. He went in as a scraggly little pup and came out looking poofy, handsome, and happy [see uploaded pic]. Not only did he look great, but the prices here are far more reasonable than any other groomer we’ve looked at. I can’t speak for the cat grooming, but I’d highly recommend these folks for your pup!

Took in my cat for a lion’s shave. He’s a long-​haired Himalayan and his butt began sporting dingleberries. I tried clipping the hair myself, but I failed. He started smelling like a homeless person.
I made an appointment and brought him in at 10am. They gave me a 4−6pm window for pick up. I’m glad they gave me a time frame, this let me plan the rest of my day accordingly. I was quoted with a cost of between something like $ 55 – 75, depending on my cat’s demeanor.
Picked up my cat and they handed me a progress report. They gave me a 10% new customer discount, I paid $ 58. After I got home and checked out my cat, I noticed the bootie lines were messy. I called them mentioning this. Their response? «We want to make you happy.» And I got an appt the first thing the next day. While I waited, they cleaned up the lines. At no charge, of course.
They didn’t sedate my cat, and I prefer it that way. They no longer «express» cat’s anal glands, something about them bursting. The groomer did spray perfume on my cat, so if you’re not too keen on this, make sure to mention that.
Townhouse’s employees are very courteous and accommodating. They’re just super nice people and a breeze to work with. When getting your pet a haircut or shave, make sure you know exactly what you want and let them know. Research what your dog’s haircut should look like according to his breed. Bring in a picture. Take the precautions so there’s no confusion and everything runs smoother :)
