Description

Specialties

If you want to go where the locals go, come to the Tin Shed. We specialize in taking classic American cuisine and flipping it on it’s ear, just to keep things interesting. The bottom line is that the food always tastes great and is prepared with skill and care! We use products that are good for the planet, fresh and local whenever possible. We also pride ourselves on providing the kind of hospitality that turns commerce into community.

History

Established in 2002.

Once upon a time, two girls came home to Portland after years of sporadically traveling the world. They were broke, but ready to set roots down and be in one place for a spell. When they saw the «For Lease» sign in the window of a small, Tin Shed-like space on Alberta, they said, «Hey, Let’s start a restaurant!»

Both had worked in restaurants for their entire working lives and were quite certain that they knew what it took to be successful. They began applying for ‘introductory rate’ credit cards and started buying used equipment on credit. They opened their doors on February 6, 2002. Janette was the chef, Christie was the smiling face in the front. A staff of two. Seven years later, the used equipment has been replaced multiple times, new storage units came in every few weeks, the staff went from two to fifty and the customers turned into family. Babies have been born, kids have turned into adolescents, employees have married each other and a community was born.
