Mmm mmm mmm. This is my nearest neighborhood coffee shop. Lucky me! The space is clean and conducive to studying(if you can get a spot). The staff here have been very kind to me. They humor all my curious questions and whip up some mean lattes. They also make their own hazelnut syrup in house, and it is heavenly, because its made with real hazelnuts and actually tastes like them. I highly recommend.

The espresso itself was rich and robust but I’m occasionally a sucker for flavored syrups and I was drawn in by the idea that they make their syrups in-house. I ordered the fleur de sel latte and my friend had the hazelnut. Neither of us could detect anything beyond standard frothy espresso latte flavor… I was very amused by the caffeine molecule chandelier, however, and their décor was very tasteful and modern with a large table upstairs for larger groups. The space was open and welcoming, probably a nice place to study.

Case Study is a very well thought-out space right on Alberta Street, serving fantastic coffee drinks with limited seating. If you’re meeting up with a single friend to catch-up, it’s the perfect spot. They have all the alternative milk options you could hope for and can pour a beautiful, beautiful latte. The espresso machine is the aesthetic equivalent of a perfectly renovated vintage car, staff are friendly, they use Square for CC payments, and there are a ton of beautiful plants spread out throughout the space.

Case Study Coffee is a writer/student paradise! One of the top cafes on Alberta/North Portland. Case Study was one of the first caffeinated watering holes i discovered, upon moving to North Portland, being right down the street from Collage, where H. works. I was initially attracted to the soothing lighting and stylish décor, but came to fall in love with the overall ambiance of the place. They always play good music, lots of classic classy jams like jazz, soul, and funk, sometimes spun straight off of vinyl, making it a great stop for the music lover. The crew is always super pleasant, without a trace of condescending attitude, which is refreshing to find on Alberta. Case Study also roast their own coffee — a warm, medium-blend, kind of nutty, a little peat-y; that Earthy coffee flavor Portland roasters seem to specialize in. Case Study are some of the top when it comes to that particular style, so forget Portland Coffee Co. or Stumptown, and support some real independent business!

I have to give some pushback against the gentrification wave. This place reeks of pretense. A cup of ordinary coffee is $ 3. The huge photos on the wall are all of how their coffee beans are produced. Just another yuppie coffee shop that seriously needs to get over itself. Yuck. And the coffee isn’t even that good, tastes like Starbucks. Go there and save a dollar.

This is my local coffee shop! It’s on my way to work. They have friendly staff and I can always know for sure my soy latte will be excellent. It’s all about consistency and these baristas have it! They are all super friendly. The design is cool and hip. My husband even roasts coffee(not here) and while I love his coffee(his shops are just out of the way of my morning routine!), I have to cheat on him everyday by drinking Case Study Coffee! Don’t tell him ;)

I gave this location another go and I had a better experience this time than the last! I asked for my drink to be extra hot because my previous latte from them was really cool/lukewarm.

This is one of the coolest coffee shops I have been to! My friend and I went to enjoy a cup of coffee and do some studying. This place is great because it has two levels with plenty of space to sit, read, study, and enjoy your tea or coffee. I ordered a hazelnut latte and it was absolutely delicious! They do great latte art, as well. The day I was there, they had the large garage door type cover, rolled up, making it seem much more open. I loved the décor and everything was very clean and tidy. The staff was very friendly, and had no intentions of rushing me to order.

I felt very welcomed here. Baristas super friendly and warm. Ordered a simple pour over and they put so much attention into crafting my cup. My barista offered to smell the grounds before brewing. *hint of blueberry* It was served in a glass carafe topped with your actual cup so that you pour at your own leisurely pace. Coffee as it is meant to be enjoyed

Gorgeous space. Modern but rustic. It’s sort of a trendy look right now but it really works here. Gorgeous wood, open. But the most important thing: AMAZING coffee. Great espresso shots. The hemp latte wasn’t as sweet here as others I’ve had so I was especially happy. Pricey! But worth the scratch for the good cuppa. Friendly folks.

Coming here made me happy. They put hearts on every drink, they have a caffeine molecule for a light fixture, the latte does not need to be sweetened. I cannot avoid two drinks a day. I learned about the effect of latitude/longitude and altitude on coffee beans and felt good about spending my time and money here. Plus, the old fashioned coffee roaster looks like it could talk to you.

I’ve had my fair share of coffee and visited many a coffee shop, but this one blew all the others away. Adorable and cozy, with so much attention to detail. Had the special lavender brew, which was lavender-infused water cold-brew coffee. Absolutely delish. I would go there every day and order if I was in town. Best thing I’ve had in a long time. If you’re a local, don’t miss it.

The décor is very aesthetically pleasing, and the baristas are experienced. They really know their origins and brewing techniques very well. They aren’t open very late, so that’s a bit of a bummer considering the location is in a very busy area downtown.

I mean, its great coffee. Pretty hard to argue with that. Great open space with natural light and friendly baristas. I just think once you start charging three dollars for a ristretto espresso, you open yourself up to be held to a higher standard. I’ll gladly pay out the bung-hole for a stellar experience. Two things that held me back from going all out 5 stars: 1) It took nearly ten minutes for my espresso. My shot wasn’t dumped nor was the machine /grinder re-calibrated during this time. I can wait for quality but it was just a very long time. 2) My glass had some residual cinnamon-y milk residue from some previous drink. Obviously it was replaced with a smile but like I said, higher prices, higher standards. Overall solid 4 stars. I love the place and this was my 4-star experience.

Had an amazing cappuccino here. I actually stumbled upon this place because my car was parked right outside. Loved their space too and enjoyed a couple hours of productive work. I’ll definitely be back here or at one of their other stores.

I’ve never had hot chocolate that tasted so yummy!!! It comes with a delicious homemade toasted marshmallow that melts oh so perfectly into the drink. This is the first time I’ve had a homemade marshmallow also, and I think it’s converted me into only consuming those little pillows of sugar fluff that’s been made at home. The barista who took our order was very friendly and even chatted with my boyfriend about the drink that he ordered. I’m not from portland, but when I return, this will be the spot i’d like to go to when I want hot chocolate.

We stumbled upon this coffee house while walking on Alberta and loved what we discovered. Like many places in the rose city this place takes its coffee seriously and they do a wonderful job at it. They make coffee with precision and attention t detail, which gives it the wonderful taste that we have enjoyed a lot. I tried something new today, the aged bourbon caramel flavor that they have. I have a sweet tooth and like good coffee. This flavor hit both the things in a unique way. I will definitely go back for it. They also have tasty sweet snacks. We have had the Orange olive oil butter cake and like it. Definitely a place to check out if you want coffee and good snacks around Alberta.

Something New! Tried The Cascara Soda. A Tea Made From The Coffee Cherry w/Seltzer Water. A Cold Drink(If The Seltzer Water Wasn’t A Big Enuff Clue. Very Good! Also, Kimberly(She Beat Me This Time) Got The Masala Latte Which Is Insanely GOOD! If I Remember Correctly, It Has corriander, cardamom and what I thought was an earthy, citrus flavor. Cont’d: Went back three days later and tried the Mexican Mocha along with another Masala Latte. This drink has some heat which you will discover at the end of each sip! As of right now Case Study is in our top«Two» of our Portlandian, Joe excursion-discoveries
