Our office has a two very knowledgeable doctors & eight friendly staff members dedicated to fulfilling all of your eye care needs including: comprehensive visual eye exams for your family, from six months of age through senior adulthood, Orthokeratology (non-​surgical correction for near-​sightedness) a.k.a. Ortho-​k or Corneal Reshaping Therapy, Contact lenses fitting and evaluation, Dry eye management, Eye emergency, Diagnosis and treatment for eye disease (i.e. Cataracts, Gluacoma, Diabetes), LASIK co-​management, & Complimentary lifetime eyeglass adjustments.

History

Established in 2005.

Dr. Tina Tsai moved to Portland from California to open her own private practice. She opened the doors of The Eye Studio in 2005 to provide quality vision care to the local residents of Portland, OR.

Dr. Tina T.

Business Owner

Dr. Tina Tsai has been involved in the eyecare profession since 1993. She received her Doctorate in Optometry with Honors from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry in 1999. She enjoyed considerable success as the president of Dr. Tina Tsai Optometry in San Leandro, California prior to arriving in Portland.

She is, first and foremost, a warm and caring optometrist who is driven by the desire to find the best way to correct vision problems for her patients. She is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa National Optometric Honor Society and American Academy of Orthokeratology.

Dr. Tsai and her husband Jay have two sons, Ryan and Joshua. The family enjoys traveling and taking road trips in the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Tsai is also an avid runner and usually runs various half marathons each year. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese as well as English.

I was blown away by how generous they were. And friendly. I’ve been to visage nearby, and on the whole they are fine, they are a little bit cold, but this place felt like a family run establishment. My husband’s glasses had been loosened by a soccer ball to the face and they tightened it and cleaned it while I waited at no charge, they also let me walk off with last month’s Portland Monthly magazine, and I got tea on a drizzly day. Can’t beat it.
Such a pleasant experience. Will come back.

I’ve been going to the Eye Studio for a few years now and I’ve been impressed with the service every time I go. Dr. Kim is my optometrist and she’s great. Very knowledgeable, helpful, insightful, an overall great person. The price point isn’t too excessive and the quality is outstanding. I’ve order frames and contacts from them and haven’t had any issues yet.

I have since been back, and like I said before, the doctor’s here are awesome! I guess that is what really matters and I would have given them 5 stars if I did not remember that scheduling issue.

Bought a pair of glasses there 15 months ago and have had problems with them from the first day. I was in at least once a week for the first 6 weeks because I couldn’t see clearly. Eventually they discovered the lenses were ground incorrectly and promptly replaced them at no charge.
Next there were problems getting them to fit correctly. Everyone on the staff did their best to make them fit but after nearly a year of visits they still weren’t right and they offered to replace them at no charge. I decided to give the adjustment one last try before replacing them because they were really trying to make it right… My mistake.
Fast forward to now… still have the same problems but now they won’t replace the glasses because it’s been more than a year since I bought them. Ugh. Now I’m stuck with a pair of $ 1600 glasses that don’t fit and never will. Needless to say, I’m not a happy camper.
I must say the staff were always friendly and courteous even when I was a little cranky. The lead optician is highly skilled and a very nice guy. I worked with everyone in the office and he was the best by far.

I brought in my old, scratched up pair of Ray Ban’s. My lenses were ridiculously damaged from working in food service for so long. One of the opticians tightened the screws and made sure the frames fit on my face well for free. I ordered a new pair of Paul Frank frames through them and new pair of lenses for my old pair of Ray Ban’s. This 5 star review speaks to their customer service side of things and to their selection of frames. I literally felt like a king in that store. You can go to a hundred different optometrist offices in the Portland area, but I doubt you’ll be treated as well as I was at the eye studio. Everyone from the receptionist to the doctors are well dressed, professional, and friendly. I really liked this place, and I guarantee that I WILL be coming back!

My husband and I have been with The Eye Studio for the last 2 years and have seen both Dr. Tsai and Dr. Kim. We have had nothing but excellent and professional care from them and their office staff. They are thorough with their examinations and their recommendations for eye care have been very beneficial. My husband purchased a new pair of glasses last year (his first new pair in 10 years!) and he loves them. When I was having trouble with my astigmatism lens, they got me into the clinic quickly to help me fix the problem.
Their office is located in the Pearl District and I love their space, modern and comfortable, just like their selection of frames. One piece of advice: definitely book your annual appointment in advance (perhaps 2 months) to get the time that works with your schedule, especially if you’re not able to get time off as in my case. :)

True Professionals.
I don’t have any serious need for glasses, but I come here to make sure my eyes are healthy and being thoroughly examined. Dr. Tsai and now Dr. Kim are both amazing. All the staff is super friendly and helpful. I have been going here at least five years and have never switched even though I don’t live in the neighborhood anymore.
Their frames are a little spendy, but you can always take your prescription to another eye glass seller if you want.
I have been struggling with dry eye and am so happy to have such good care.
The other day they were running late so they gave me a $ 5 Starbucks card. Top notch!

I been going here for 5 years. I found this office by searching acceptable in-​network providers from my VSP insurance and by the proximity from my work. I like this office because it’s fast and they don’t pressure you into buying their products. I go in for my yearly routine check on the health of my eyes and get a new prescriptions. Also I initially went to Dr. Tsai for 3 years and then to other 2 doctors the last 2 years, I’ve been satisfied with my exams and prescriptions.

This was my first eye exam in close to 20 years… and I was a bit nervous. But after visiting the Eye Studio, I realize I had no reason to be. First, I appreciate the Saturday hours. I saw Dr. Thomas and everything was fantastic. Staff was very, very nice. Doctor was friendly and informative. I would highly recommend The Eye Studio to anyone.

Thank you for reaching out to me. However, I am currently working with an ophthalmologist from Oregon Eye Specialists, PC to address my condition. As soon as we have it under control, she’ll give me an updated contact prescription.
I gave The Eye Studio two stars because it offers beautiful — albeit expensive — glasses, and you are proficient enough at standard exams. However, I would still recommend that people go elsewhere if they need anything more than a standard eye exam.

I’m not a big fan of any kind of doctors out there, but I actually am excited to go back here (in a year). I know, weird, right?
Dr. Thomas and the staff out front are so awesome and friendly that I honestly felt at home and super comfortable. Dr. Thomas talked to me throughout the entire exam so I was never lost about what she was doing. What I especially enjoyed was after she put the drops in for the dilation, she let me look at the frames in the front of the store instead of sitting in the exam room for several minutes alone. During that time, I picked out my frames, chose my lens options, got measured and paid my bill.
What I like is that I went in for a specific purpose: check-​up and prescription sunglasses. They didn’t try to push anything else on me, which is rare from some businesses.
The Eye Studio is great! Seriously, give it a try!

I had a great experience. I haven’t been to an eye doctor in a very long time, and recently decided that I may need glasses. Dr. Thomas was very thorough, patient, and kind as I asked all kinds of questions about devices, efficacy of eye wear, and more. I feel confident that they are helping me.

I was referred to Dr. Tsai by a friend who has been seeing her for years. I had a routine eye exam and have to say she was very personable, as was the front store staff. The one person who did the measurements on my eyes I felt her friendliness was forced and not genuine. Other than that, the staff was great.
The place itself is lovely, located in the Pearl. Very clean with a store set-​up that’s very modern yet easy to peruse the frames. The exam room itself was comfortable and the technology seemed pretty up-​to-​date.
My one concern/​comment was that Dr. Tsai found me to be slightly near-​sighted (fine, I agree with that) but when I asked if it was related to my pregnancy, she said that it was unlikely. My OB, on the other hand, feels otherwise as there is a known near-​sightedness that is related to pregnancy. Both are very knowledgeable and professional and I trust their expertise so I guess in the end, it’s not unreasonable for docs to have different opinions. However, the more people I talk to and the more I read about pregnancy, near-​sightedness is definitely an issue. I’m surprised she didn’t acknowledge that.
My husband felt like she was just trying to sell me glasses. I’ll likely be looking for someone else to do my annual check-​ups.

I was way overdue for an eye checkup. I didn’t really need it, but I wanted new glasses. I shopped all over town, but every time I walked through their doors I was greeted with smiles and warmth. Yes, it’s a bit more expensive than your «run of the mill» eye doc shop, but it’s worth it. The customer service I received, as well as the frame selection, was above and beyond what I ever experienced.

Dr. Tsai and her team have been doing this for years. I had never received such a thorough eye exam. Dr. Tsai was very patient in answering the many questions I had regarding the testing and her recommendations.

Everyone works together as a team. Everyone (from the administrative assistant to the technician to Dr. Tsai herself) takes pride in his or her work. It appears as if everyone has a good time while working because they are always upbeat.

For a while now I have been wondering why Comcast HD cable quality has gotten worse. I always knew they were a monopoly and just suffered through it. When bored one day I tried my dads glasses on and realized that I was blind and it was not the cable.
I did not have insurance, so I went to a Binyons to just get a pair of glasses so I could watch the Blazer games in clarity. They were fine, just got my glasses and went.
I eventually wanted to get contacts for a little more convenience. I play sports and the glasses do not always work. So I Unilocal searched in coordination with my newly acquired insurance and found The Eye Studio. They are conveniently close to my work, so I made an appointment. When I set up my appointment, I was on the phone for over 5 minutes and she was very helpful. She answered all my questions. I went to my appointment and was comfortable the whole time. Lindy my doctor answered all my questions before I was able to ask them. She taught me more about the eye then I ever knew. She found me the least expensive route to get contacts for my circumstances. It was great. I found my new eye doctor.
