One of the best butcher shops in Portland and THE place for pig! Their ham hocks are big and meaty. Perfect for my making pork and beans at home. All of their wholesale products are top quality. Their sandwiches are awesome too! I have yet to find one I don’t like, but, the grinder is one of the best in Portland.

Omg, where to start. Hands down the worlds best Reuben. Perfectly grilled crunchy bread with delicious meat topped with homemade sauerkraut and yummy sauce(no thousand island dressing from a bottle here). Honestly the best Reuben I’ve ever had. Well done guys!

Love this place. It’s quaint and high quality food. I had the Havana. It was delicious. The cilantro was a fresh surprise. Highly recommend. My friend had the pre-made ham sandwich on baguette. She couldn’t put it down. Simple perfection.

Loved my sandwich so much! I am a massive sandwich connoisseur, and this was tops. I ordered the roast pork sandwich. It was jam full of flavor. Everything melded so well together. The pork was fantastic and I love how it is cut right from the pig in the store :) They have a fantastic looking display case full of different meats to take home, and a small refrigerator and cooling area with other different items to buy and take home. Only gripe was the bread was a bit too crusty/hard.

This place smells amazing from outside and even better once you enter it. That is what originally caught my attention. Very friendly service and easy to read menu on wall. Clean environment. I went in for lunch and tried the pulled pork sandwich. Was absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend this place I will be back.

Heard great things about this place so decided to give it a try. Headed there during a non-rush time(4PM) and was NOT greeted at all by any of the five employees behind the counter. FINALLY — one man asked what he could help us with. I ordered two grinders and grabbed two bottles of pop. Easy customer here. Then stood patiently another 5 min to pay for my order. Apparently I was too much of an interruption in this other guy’s day as he sloughed over to ring up my order. Not a hello or even a thank you out of his mouth. THEN, right in the middle of ringing me up he turned his attention to chat with a woman who came in with a box of on-the-house beverages. Didn’t even bother to acknowledge me — again. What sucks about those Apple-pay systems is that a person feels obligated to leave a tip otherwise who knows what will end up in their sandwich. What an asshole — nice representation there. No doubt the sandwiches were tasty(thus awarded two stars) BUT definitely not worth the $ 11 price tag — the only thing the sandwiches came with was attitude.(Remember this folks, manners are FREE all day long). There are so many other amazing places to eat in Portland that know how to treat the customer.

I’m afraid this place got me when I was in a «hangry» mood. I came during a busy lunch rush and didn’t handle my extra wait for my sandwich. That being said, they were perfectly nice and accommodating when I complained and made every effort to relive me of my –hangryness– Their Reuben is perfectly balanced and mighty good! It’s not the meat stacked high Reuben from NYCs Carnegie deli, but it’s great in its own local made way!

I’m a sucker for a good sammie and this place delivered. Cute little pork products and mini mart type stuff in the shop area. The Grinder and Cubano both tasty and huge portion. Def a great sandwich stop.

Fantastic, old world butcher, deli and charcuterie. They make a fantastic prosciutto that is finished using hazelnuts not acorns; a true Pacific Northwest original! Great sandwiches with the meat sliced fresh in front of you. Great staff, clean and a great way to support a small local business.

Tails & Trotters is in my pantheon of truly great sandwich makers. There’s never a false note in any of their sandwiches. Each sandwich is a harmonious arrangement complimentary and contrasting flavors and textures. I chose the Grinder to talk about not only because it’s one of my favorites and it travels really well, but because it really illustrates the skill set of the people that work there. They’ve taken the basic sandwich form of the Grinder/Hoagie/Sub and elevated to something quite special. Not by adding anything gimmicky or esoteric, but, rather, by staying true to the original form and preparing it flawlessly. The Ciabatta roll is light, airy and tender on the inside and crispy/flaky on its exterior. It’s given a light application of garlic aioli on the bottom half and a more liberal smear of spicy fennel relish on the top half. Then comes the careful layering of ham, aged provolone cheese, coppa and lonza salami. The meat, of course, is cured in house. A bit of shredded iceberg lettuce for texture rounds out the sandwich. So simple, but so very good! For those of you that want something more adventurous, there’s a full menu of sandwich options including; banh mi, cubano and pulled pork among others. I really can’t speak highly enough about this place. If you’re a sandwich or meat lover, then you really need to check Tails & Trotters out!

Can I say that I notice a difference from the«hazelnut finishing» of the pork at Tails & Trotters? No not really, but that doesn’t make it any less amazing. T & T make some excellent sandwiches and have some of the best pork products in the City of Roses. If you feel like grabbing a sandwich, they have a great variety of choices. And while some may complain about the pricing, I don’t feel like you can say that the meats and bread are not delicious. The porchetta in particular is a thing of beauty. I love how the arugula they use pairs so well with the salty meats. How often do you eat a sandwich and say«Damn, that’s some good arugula!» If you go on a weekend, just know that T & T is a fairly small space that can get quite cramped between people in line to order and others waiting for their order. It can become a challenge when trying to look at the selection of prepackaged meats with a bunch of people all standing around. Pretty neat though… I saw a reply from the owner to a different Unilocal review and it sounds like they are adding additional seating which would be a huge plus! Extra points for my most recent visit… Came on a Saturday for the porchetta, they seemed slammed with people in the shop and a lot of phone orders people were coming in to pickup. The wait for our sandwiches was exceptionally long(25+ minutes), but they acknowledged this when we were grabbing our sandwiches and gave us a free sandwich coupon for our next visit. Right on! Everyone working at T & T knows their meats and I appreciate the care they put into all they do. Their enthusiasm and knowledge are obvious. If you like pork you absolutely have to check this place out!

If Portland has an official food ambassador team, the people at Tails & Trotters should certainly lead the group. When we first moved to Portland, we came here to get some great cuts of meat and chorizo and couldn’t have had a more pleasant experience. Not only is everyone here super nice and incredible warm, they know their meat. They even have sandwiches both hot and cold and a nice selection of prepacked meats, chile, porchetta, etc. Always fresh and always something new to go along with the favorites. Please give these guys a visit and see for yourselves and then pick up a pie from the Pie Spot next door to complete your meal :)

Mmmmmmmmm! Stopped by here on a walk and shared a porkstrami and swiss on rye. Very very good. While waiting for the sandwich I looked around the shop and I think they carry just about any pork product you can think of. So we will be back!

Visions of happy Iberian pigs chomping on hazelnuts are dancing in my head. To some this may sound odd, but to those who really pay attention to their food, where it actually comes from, who handles that food(from farm to butcher to market), and what you are putting into your mouth(and perhaps your family’s mouths) it’s a very, VERY big deal. In a world where we are seeing the failures in the mass produced factory farms I am comforted by the existence of Tails & Trotters. This new found adoration was born today because of two reasons: 1. They made my wife and I the best sandwich I’ve ever had 2. The customer service we received from the very moment we walked in the door was top notch. As you approach the butcher case filled with pork eye candy, you notice that signals are being sent to your salivary glands that something very good is about to come… Overwhelmed with delight, we ordered The Grinder to split. This beauty boasts house cured coppa, lonza & ham with shredded iceberg lettuce, spicy fennel relish, aged provolone & garlic aioli* on a toasted Ciabatta roll. We opted for no cheese and it was absolutely PERFECT from start to finish. The textures, flavors, heat… The Umami was bangin! So here’s the deal… It’s all about the main attraction. The Pigs! If you know your pork, you will appreciate the great care and attention they take in the way these pigs are raised, from the cooperative effort between several local farms and suppliers, to their own skilled butchering that occurs onsite. The exceptional, genuine, unpretentious, excellent customer service? Well… That’s icing on the cake. We live in a very special place, Portland and it’s surrounding regions, where are we all stand on the precipice of a food revolution. As each month passes, it becomes increasingly important to support local establishments like Tails & Trotters because they are at the forefront of ensuring that we choose a healthy & sustainable path when it comes to meat production. What it comes down to is this… The finely crafted pork that Tails & Trotters is selling is damn good. Whether you are needing an exceptional sandwich, or something delectable to wow your dinner guests, or maybe you want to kick your bacon addiction up three notches, you can actually do that here.

Love this place! Wasn’t hungry — so we didn’t get a sandwich but the ones they were making looked fantastic… Purchased several meats from their counter — the staff are super knowledgeable and very friendly. Love shopping local!

Roast pork Sandwich, Oh how I love thee… I am not shallow enough to just love you for your tender roasted and sliced to order pork. There are so many other parts that add to your depth and flavor: 1. Your abundance of fresh Arugula with its nutty green flavor 2. Your pickled peppers and onions adding a tangy spice 3. Your rustic baguette which is crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside 4. The way you all come together to give that amazing last bite mmmm I will savor you until my next visit and I hope to meet your hotter older«porkstrami» brother PS Your Neighbor«the Pie Spot» is pretty hot too PPS Im guessing the lemon seed inside you was your secret way of telling me you use fresh lemon juice in your process of pickling your peppers … I got the hint

Pork seduction. That’s what this place is. Take a deep breath as soon as you step in the door, it’s intoxicating. With all the mouth watering sandwich choices, I went for the basic, Simple Ham Sandwich. Super fresh bread, crispy lettuce and the right amount of mayo & mustard. They nailed it! T & T also offers an array of pork products at their meat counter, as well as various condiments. I sampled the Deviled Ham. A few simple ingredients including a little bit of heat, makes for a smokey, salty match on your favorite cracker, bread or veggies.
