Parking can be an issue here if you arrive during peak times, the lots themselves are not big and there are not many options to park elsewhere and walk to this venue. The food itself was okay. I came around 5:30 and was there about an hour and a half. I noticed many items were refilled over and over, but good luck on getting any oysters once the first batch runs out(I noticed there were the same shells sitting there). The ice crème options are limited, vanilla, chocolate, or twist. The pork chops had barely any meet on them after I peeled off all the fat. All other foods were standard that did not stand out, even for a buffet. Be careful when walking around the serving stations, there were many times when I almost fell because the floors were too slippery(and I was wearing my hiking boots).

This is a nice, well priced Chinese buffet. I liked some of the dishes and some others were alright. The fried fish and mixed seafood vegetable were pretty good while the salmon was not one of the best. The salad bar and desserts were good too. The part that needs some extra work is the sushi bar. They were very few kinds of sushi and they were not excellent either. However, the environment was quit and clean. m and I enjoyed it during my lunch.

How do you know a native Portlander? They’ll tell you. After that, you’ll know a Native Portlanders because they talk about the Organ Grinder. The Organ Grinder, for those not in the know, was one of the best pizza places in Portland. The pizza was mediocre by today’s standards, but was awesome back when pizza came in two types — flat corn meal crust, or frozen. What made the Organ Grinder special was the dark wood interior and the huge pipe organ that took up half the building giving it it’s unique shape. It seemed like it was always playing music. Few things are cooler then hearing a huge pipe organ play the Star Wars theme music as the bubble machines blow soapy mixture all over your food at your best friends birthday party. Unfortunately, the Organ Grinder is now a dim memory of youth lost. Super King Buffet, who has taken over the original Organ Grinder building at 5015SE82nd, will never have the nostalgia factor that the Organ Grinder did. The food is still mediocre by todays standards. The price reasonably cheap for a Chinese Buffet, and just as reasonably varied. Unlike the Organ Grinder, suburban kids aren’t going to be begging to come here. Unlike the Organ Grinder, the only music accompanying your meal is the scream of young kids, frustrated parents telling them to eat(in multiple languages,) and blue collar workers stopping here during lunch break for a cheap and filling meal. And really, that is all it has going for it. Some of us will continue to dream of slightly soap flavored pizza and the Star Wars Theme song though and will visit again just to seep in nostalgia.

Lots of variety and decent food. Happier with the selection and quality of food at a very similar buffet where I live now, but it was good enough to go to every now and then.

Many choices. Flavor a bit absent in some dishes. But for the price, can’t beat it. Egg flower soup was great. And the veggies and salad bar very fresh. Pass on the dressings though. A huge array of desserts and sushi, if you like that.

I love this place sooooooooo much I would eat here everyday if it wouldn’t make me 400 lbs. Twice a month is a must. The selection was best in town and I am salivating just typing this. Best part is the Mongolian grill style area. Don’t forget to bring some ones to tip these guys they are worth it. 10STARS

Casual, comfortable restaurant.. . An amazing variety of food choices, Chinese and American. The place is well operated, we’ve now visited several times, it’s very consistent. Chalk this one up as another… 82nd Avenue gem!

Arrived with a buddy around 12:30PM yesterday to try this new(to us), buffet – and we were NOT disappointed. If you’re used to eating AYCE Chinese buffet at a place like the Panda Buffet on McGloughlin, or closed not-to-be-forgotten ‘treasures’ like the Golden Dragon downtown or the China Moon on Macadam, this place is a giant step up. Everything was fresh, without that ‘sitting under the heat lamps for four hours’ texture and taste, and there was a mighty huge selection. The baked salmon, while cooked with nary a drop of seasoning, was still very good, and the fried rice was the best I’ve ever had from a buffet type restaurant like this one. A decent selection of American fare for those who don’t care for Chinese is also included, and the dessert table was plentiful, unlike other places of this type. The service was great, the server never let our water glasses get even close to empty – and here is the only reason this place loses a star for me – you have to pay for other drinks separately. *Insert«wah-wah-waaaaah» music* You would think the buffet places would learn that not everyone is going to fall for this. Without paying for those drinks, the price was fair, too – under $ 20 – I’m not sure what it would have been if we’d ordered drinks, but buffet places like this usually like to give ye the shaft with this. On the whole, excellent Chinese food to be had at this friendly ex-location of the Organ Grinder. Hell, the food’s better than the Organ Grinder’s ever was, but I miss looking up at that damned monkey, and the organ! :)

The selections were not kept hot and sushi/sashimi seemed to be made a few hours prior. I sampled pretty much everything available, desserts included, and I wasn’t impressed. I would recommend this over other local buffets if you’re in the mood to enjoy sea food and Americanized Chinese cuisine. Come with an empty stomach, try all of it, you’ll find some tasty things you do enjoy here and there. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean and the table sections were well attended by the staff. Our server was really courteous and had quick. $ 13.99 ea for an adult seemed almost low, but for the quality, I think this price is fair.

My dads choice for a quick lunch. I had a 7th birthday here when it was the Organ Grinder. I remember it clearly, because while my friends where downstairs playing games, I was upstairs opening all my presents by myself. My favorite was a My Little Pony«Flutter Pony». This was the kind that had skinnier legs, and had plastic rainbow like wings that you could press a little button, and the wings could go up or down. It was amazing. As you can imagine, shortly later I had to apologize to all my guests for opening my presents early, and being a selfish little brat. Fast forward about 15 years, and the Organ Grinder was now some sort of nightclub. with dancing. I went with some friends for ladies night. Later, I had to apologize to them for bringing them to this grungy, divey night club. I apologized by buying them all I HOP(next door). Last weekend I asked my dad where he wanted to go, and he wanted Super King Buffet. Dammit. I’m down 15 lbs and eating at a buffet isn’t going to help me stay on track. I tried. I had bok choy, edemame, some sushi and hot and spicy soup. It was all very basic and bland. Oversalted, overcooked. Sushi loaded with cream cheese and avocado, which is garbage. I found a dish or two that was okay. The steamed pork buns are fine, and scallion pork is okay is small quantities. Everything else about this place is what you should except from a buffet, 1 star. I apologize to my taste buds.

For essentially the cost of a fast food meal, you get food that is much yummier and has a much greater variety, plus there are veggies. And it’s quicker than fast food. And the people who work here are really nice. I love this place. It’s not high-end food, of course, but c’mon — it’s a buffet! And unlike(say) Izzy’s Buffet, ti’s a buffet with edible food. If you want inexpensive, reliable, quick comfort food, this is probably the best deal in town. The children like it, too, and eat for less than the price of an adult, which is nice.

So picture this: It’s a Friday night. My super glam roommate and I are driving down 82nd looking for somewhere cheap and good to eat. We suddenly spot a buffet with a packed parking lot. So it must be good, right? Hmmmmm… This place brought out a cavalcade of emotions. First, hilarity at the very fake«ponds» that had koi fish and also had pennies in the bottom even though there’s a sign clearly stating to not throw coins in the water as it’s bad for the fish. Also, sadness, at seeing a lot of very obese, unhealthy people eating here. I’m not model thin, but still… Although I suppose it’s to be expected at a buffet. Next I felt overwhelmed by the huge amount of choices and a tiny bit stressed as I knew I didn’t need to eat, say, six plates of food. But we tried as much as we could without feeling like we went way over the line as far as how much we’d eaten. Most of the food, especially all the Chinese items, was mediocre at best. There was one sauteed chicken with mushrooms dish that was good. And the butter potatoes were great, I mean, how could you mess that one up? But even the fried appetizers like crab rangoon weren’t too good. The spring rolls were tasty and the sweet and sour chicken was pretty decent. Unfortunately, most of the healthier meat and veggie stir fried items were just terrible, generally due to slimy, awful tasting meat. We also tried one bite each of the coconut and mango cakes, which were terrible. The only good tasting dessert item was the jelly roll with cream filling. The soft serve was also fine, that’s tough to mess up as well. So what was tasty? The Japanese food! The sushi rolls were all good. Not the best ever, but plenty flavorful enough. We noticed too late that they had a stir fry bar where you give them items and they stir fry them. We decided if we go again, we’ll just do the sushi and have a stir fry, healthier and better tasting.

Rasheed Wallace summed it best during his diss to Lebron when he insinuated there weren’t any kings in Cleveland(#1), the same could be said about buffets like this in Portland. Super King is nothing more than Super Mediocre. Here’s why: * Buffet food quality is practically an oxymoron, but it is true that most options are questionable at best. Be it the dinner or the lunch service, many trays don’t get replaced until they’re empty. No fresh batch to add to the old? That’s what other places would do. * This is supposed to be a a super buffet right? Even for Asian buffets, there isn’t much selection beyond a few rows of sushi rolls, fried finger foods, soups, and rice + noodles. They could stand to gain from a more robust seafood, dessert, or cuisine related stuff, but it doesn’t look like a possibility. * The staff could be a bit nicer, but then again, this is a buffet. What service could there possibly be? Maybe cleaning up the counters from the buffet spills, refilling drinks, and /or cleaning tables quickly? Not always the case with theis bunch. * Bathrooms? Stay in your seat. Trauma is only one urinal /toilet away. Is there a silver lining? Good parking and prices earn them two stars, but even that doesn’t merit multiple visits. Eat with caution. _____________ (#1)

Come hungry because the buffet is $ 13.99. The shrimp is more like the size of prawns… but they haven’t been deveined so it’s actually more like crawfish. Also, like crab, it looks like more work than its worth. Me? I don’t eat anything that comes with it’s eyes staring at me or phalanges still attached. They will sauté up a bowl of stir fry for you, with whatever ingredients you hand them, but there’s a tip jar, so you want to bring extra cash if that’s what you want. There’s sushi — which looks really fresh. The salad bar left a little to be desired, but that’s only because I wanted all the fatty stuff like croutons and bacon bits and what I found was a lot of veggies. Who knows? Maybe I wasn’t even at the salad bar, but the stir fry selection. They have stuff for kids like pizza… or for the adult who doesn’t like American Chinese or Japanese food or salad. The dessert bar is where they failed. All I found was some pudding, some coconut cake, some apple chutney and an ice milk machine — with a bottle of chocolate sauce and caramel sauce sitting next to it. For the same price, you will get much better at the buffet down the road about a mile — that rhymes with Comb Down Soufflet. All that said, the yakisoba, sticky rice, fried rice and all the meats made for some good Chinese food. I’d just rather have spent less, since I only eat one plate and don’t waste a plate or 2, like I always see other people do at the buffets(which is what drives the pries up so high). The restaurant used to be the Organ Grinder, but instead of being dark and dismal, it’s been remodeled and is very light and airy now. You even enter on a different side and cross over a Koi pond wishing well, to reach the hostesses podium. The place is clean, but not immaculate. But then, it was Mother’s Day and the place was a mad house of families. If buffets are you thing — which they aren’t really mine, but I was appeasing mom on Mothers day — then this might be right up your alley.
