This place is wonderful. I had it on my list of places to see while in Portland and it was a treasure. Lots of clothes and accessories but for people that are not a size 0. Lots of cool handmade jewelry. Plus the customer service was a plus

The customer service and quality of the items are both outstanding. There’s been a few times where I had to bring my toddler with me and without a girlfriend to shop with. They’re so great with my daughter and they even zip me up and give me feedback while trying stuff on. This is my favorite place to shop for clothes!

I love this store! I almost always find something wonderful, and the prices are great. I have a friend who comes here whenever she visits Portland — she lives in California so she likes to shop where there is no sales tax, and she always finds great stuff too. The clothes are always in great shape — no mysterious stains to worry about, Gaya’s standards are very high so everything is pre-​screened carefully before being put on the racks. You will also find accessories such as scarves, belts and handbags, some interesting lingerie and shoes, and a case full of really great jewelry, both new and vintage. Whether you are looking for everyday basics or that one special dress, try Savvy Plus before you pay too much elsewhere.

I was here in August and it was a very fun store, I had great options and one included a brand new j. Crew dress in blue. It was strapless. Adorable. A new pair of shoes too. It was a fun day since street fair too August 15 and shopping there was nice since I found six items. I would come here again and I was impressed with the size ranges too, from little to big something for all. When I’m back in Portland I’ll be back.

What is it about the full-​figured female body that prompts manufacturers to crank out their various lumpy-​dumpy, be-​sequined, appliquéd, studded, and hideously designed monstrosities that I see available on the size 18– 20 racks in stores everywhere? Is this some form of punishment? Is it some way of marking us as the outcasts or fools amongst normal women? Really, though, what is that shit? Who wears it? Would YOU wear it?
The answer is «no.» –no, you would not. In fact, you would probably rather be caught dead in week-​old underpants (or no underpants) than in some of the clothes currently «designed» for fat folks.
Skipping over the question about why such clothes do NOT appear on skinny-​girl racks, let me just say that there is a SPECTRUM of styles available for fat women… some clothes are definitely «cute for somebody else.» I personally like natural fibers, and earthy qualities in my clothing, I like flow and muted color. Such clothing is tasteful and elegant and makes the most out of my changing form.
I have shopped at Savvy Plus for about 10 years. It used to be the ONLY great spot in town for gorgeous plus-​sized clothing at affordable prices. She always had quite a mixture, both in style choices and in price. She had new clothing available, and some consignment. She had tons of Flax. Every year there was a new batch and she told me she couldn’t keep enough of it in stock. Over the years, I have spent many hundreds of dollars at Savvy Plus. Those «hundreds of dollars» however were spent in the past.
This April I had a conference to attend, and went into the store to gear up for it. I went to Savvy on 4 separate occasions beginning 2 months ahead of time because I know there is a lot of flux in stock. I found NOTHING suitable on ANY of those occasions. The last time I went in, I asked about Flax, in particular. Gaya told me that she doesn’t want to buy Flax anymore because they require her to purchase an entire line. I don’t understand why this is a problem if she’s selling it as fast as she told me she was.
I went again last month, and again it’s the same thing. She has nothing there I couldn’t get cheaper at Deseret Industries or Goodwill. And I have to say it, the stock there is creeping across the spectrum scale in the direction of «lumpy dumpy.»
This review is ENTIRELY about stock, as you can see. Staff there is awesome, and the shop has a great ambiance, but Gaya needs to bring it or she will lose those customers who are searching for clothing that isn’t 10% spandex and swarming with sequins.

I love love love thrift stores. I always find the coolest things there and then when I look closer I see uh-​oh, it’s not in my size. This is always a bummer for me.
Welcome to Savvy Plus, the thrifty plus size girl’s dream come true. I was so happy to find a thrift store that catered to women my size that I nearly drove right past it in my excitement.
It’s a medium size shop with walls, racks, shelves, nooks, and crannies filled with plus size options galore. I’ll be honest when I say a lot the things in the front were not really my style but I was pleased it might be an option for someone. I found that most of the trendier outfits were in the back. There I found lots of dresses, hats, bathing suits, matching bra sets and more. They also had jewelry at the counter and lots of body positive artwork for sale on the walls around the store.
The prices are a little higher than I would have liked but a lot of the pieces are in great condition, I even saw quite a few with tags still attached and the staff made up for anything with their very helpful and friendly nature.
I tried on a few things but absolutely fell in love with a dress that fit me to a «T».
If you haven’t checked this place out, make it a priorty to do so, you won’t be disappointed.

Wonderful place for inexpensive clothing in good condition. SUPER friendly, helpful staff that will make you feel good about yourself. I’ve been twice (always go when I’m in town) & always leave with a smile on my face & spring in my step. I only subtract 1 star because my particular sizes are almost always VERY limited – very small selection from which to choose (no jeans available this time & only 1 or 2 pair of dress pants). But I suppose that’s a matter of what people are selling. This time got a jacket, pants & shirt. Last time found a dress, sweater, blouse, skirt. Wish I lived in Portland so I could go all the time.

Stumbled upon this gem while waiting for my food order from the food cart across the street and man, am I sure glad I did! I tried on lots of clothing and two pieces fit me perfectly. One was a thrift stores find at 9 dollars, the other was a discounted 75 dollar local designer organic cotton dream shirt. I had a hard time deciding whether to purchase and after chatting with the owner very comfortably and friendly I decided to buy. So glad I did. Can’t wait for my next visit to purchase

Found this place while visiting town and really appreciated the selection. Even though I didn’t buy anything, I appreciate that this store is around at all. Service was good, very friendly.

This place used to have great clothes here, but now its thrift store quality. Strange, because when I asked about consigning a brand-​new batik blouse, they found a tiny imperfection!

I stopped in tonight just before closing, and the employees were very communicative about closing time and asking if i needed help with anything. When i told them it was my first time in they were very happy and encouraging and told me all about consigning stuff there as well.
I needed jeans, and magically the first pair i tried on, a dark denim pair of flares, fit me like a dream! The prices for jeans seemed really reasonable. Mine were marked $ 14, and i noticed they ranged from $ 12 – 18. Just slightly more expensive than Goodwill prices nowadays, but FAR BETTER organized than GW! Some of the true vintage dresses and nicer items i saw there were a bit pricier, but of all the labels i saw i never found anything higher than $ 49. Prices were pretty reasonable.
They also pointed out that they have larger sizes of shoes as well, which is GREAT for me since i wear size 12 women’s. It looked like they carried shoes in size 9 and up.
I can see what some people are saying about the overall selection having some frumpy items, but i have no problem with this! I don’t think this store is trying to really cater to people with a specific, hip aesthetic, rather the types of styles were all across the board. I think this is nice in that it gives people with many different aesthetic senses a chance to find something that fits well! Everything is organized meticulously by size, and within a category (pants for example) you will find things that look appropriate for young women all the way to middle aged or older ladies. The main consistent thing is that the quality of all of the items seems pretty good.
This weekend was some sort of birthday or anniversary sale, so my magical jeans were only $ 7…superscore!!! I left happy and will be returning again.

In my Unilocal search for good local Thrift stores I stumbled upon Savvy Plus. I stopped in only for a few minutes and did not buy anything. Despite this I really liked how the store appeared and was merchandised. Definitely more of boutique.

I have such mixed feelings about this store. I am happy that there is a vintage/​consignment type store specifically for plus sizes out there, and the store was arranged neatly which made it easy to locate one’s size (more than can be said for most vintage/​thrift/​consignment stores). Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the selection.
Maybe the store had been picked over before I got there and the good stuff was gone, or maybe I am not the target demographic. Too young, not boho enough, too desiring of actual shape in my clothing???
Lots of sad sack polyester and shapeless frocks. Some might have been salvageable with a belt and some accessories, but most were too hippie dippy for me. I found three items in the store to try on but wasn’t all that excited about any of them. I left empty-​handed.
Such a great idea, but I’m sad to see it fall into the trap of assuming that plus size women don’t want to show off their bodies or have any shape in their clothing. I know it’s vintage slash thrift, I know they get their inventory from donations or sell backs and are in some ways bound by what was cool for plus size women years ago, but someone is in charge of selecting what gets put on the racks. Please, pick more exciting articles of clothing that make women feel fabulous in their skin rather than just covered up.

My destination yesterday was actually Rock Soft Futon, but as they had a «will return later» sign up I needed to kill some time. Spotted Savvy Plus and was like, «WHAT, NO WAY, A STORE FOR FATTIES??» and had to check it out. As someone in that awkward transition phase of not quite fat, definitely not thin, I was thankful there was still plenty of selection. Much of it wasn’t quite to my taste and some of what I liked such as a $ 119 skirt was way out of the price range I’d consider for used on my budget, but I did find a few things to purchase. I was disappointed over a cute dress I tried on that busted in the process, but thankfully it was just the pull tab on the zipper and not a size-​related mishap else I would have felt much worse about the experience, haha.
Liked the atmosphere of the store, it was easy to browse, and the gal at the counter was super nice. She and another customer gave me recommendations on other stores to check out locally which I greatly appreciated. Apparently they are constantly putting out new items (I swear she said something like up to 100 things a day?), so I will definitely check them out again.

OK, let me start with this. You’ve read all the great Unilocal reviews about this place. Your girlfriends have all gushed about the incredible finds and how sweet the owner is. Here’s the interesting part. ** THEY LIE!!! **
Not «lie» in that it isn’t true, but lie by omission… Because it’s really difficult to list all the ways this store totally ROCKS. High-​quality stuff, great prices, truly incredible service, pleasant environment. The only thing that might make it a better shopping experience would be free transport to and from in a sedan chair carried by strapping young things, or something like that. :)
I found a TON of stuff on my most recent trip, and was really impressed by the combination of friendliness, frank advice, and the genuine heartfelt desire to help of the owner (Gaya). She had incredible suggestions, and after she asked what I was looking for, she zoomed straight to the right rack and started picking things out that she thought would be perfect on me. And she was so right! Gaya’s eye for what works well is surpassed only by the sincere joy she exudes when you try on just the PERFECT skirt, or find the truly ultimate pair of jeans.
It’s a consignment place, so you’re never guaranteed to find what you came in for. But you’re pretty much guaranteed to find something great that you really can’t leave without (or in hindsight, can’t live without :).
Prices better than Nordstrom Rack, service better than Nordstrom, and a focus on sizes that are barely a sideline for other stores. Really, how much better does clothes shopping get?
Really, you simply have to go there and see for yourself what everyone’s raving about.

I really liked this place, and the owner Gaya was so very sweet and welcoming it really makes this store a pleasure to shop in. The shop is located in a cool little part of Hawthorne across from a bank of food carts. This place is chocked full of stuff, but there’s plenty of room to move. Nothing like feeling like a bull in a china shop. There’s also cool art and a oddly large-​busted «bust» adorns the walls.
It has that boutiqey feel I like with a little corner for shoes/​boots and scarves, and a large and well stocked jewelry display (or 3 of them to be accurate) makes up the counter and houses really fabulous and funky, fancy and flirtatious jewels. Yes, my alliteration was intentional. The prices for jewelry are not bad at all. I always love when I can find a pair of earings for under $ 10 — oh joy!
They have good quality stuff in impeccable condition at fairly expensive prices. Flax, Kasper, Liz, Dansko… cant recall other names — but lots of good ones. I think it’s sizes 12 to 28. About half of the stuff here is cool, funky and modern. The other half is suits, coats and dressy dressy stuff. About 50 – 60 are things I would wear and many of those I would LOVE to wear. They have great names in shoes (you have to look in a few areas for those). The two dresses I tried on were $ 38 and $ 48 I think, but I didnt «love» them on me. In truth, it’s been a long time since I’ve paid more than $ 20 for a dress or sweater or any piece of clothing (finances and goodwills being what they are). But I will definitely come back — especially on sale days — to look for that perfect piece that I might be able to get on same for $ 20 or so. Or I may go back for a sparkly pair of earrings or plucky handmade scarves…
There are sale signs on the wall, I think this might have been a big sale (a birthday), but what I could find on sale was mostly 10 and 15% off. I found nothing that had the color of the 50% off. Signs/​sales were hard to figure out, but Gaya seeemed to get that had a sense of humor about it and that makes it all ok.
Gaya was ever so happy to reccomend nearby restaurants with gusto. She took plenty of time to explain the process for consigning and selling. I heard her on the phone with a consigner, and she was ever-​cheerful and respectful in her dealings. Really appreciate this place and it’s gracious owner.

Went today and took my clothing in. They again did not take anything, except they wanted to give me only 11.00 for a 160.00 coat that was worn once, just basically new.
I looked around it there was a lot of real ugly clothing hanging in their store. They turned down my nice clothing but they carry ugly clothes.
They not only lost me as a client, they have lost me as a customer. Once I feel like a store is ripping me off I stop shopping there!

Years later and this store just continues to get better and better. I really appreciate the staff here, who go the extra mile for every person who walks in the door. I’ve also really been enjoying a new surge of social media from this store and I will admit: I have left the office to drive straight there to see something they posted online first.

Holy low priced high fashion awesomeness.
I have never, ever, seen another store like this. Savvy Plus is a high quality, low price (between $ 8 – 20 for most items) consignment store that starts around size 12 and goes beyond size 26. There are clothes for all ages of adults (not just those past a certain age).
Yesterday, I bought 3 nice coats, a skirt and a sweater for about $ 70 (two tweed Talbots blazers, a great trench coat, zip down purple hoodie, and a knee-​length skirt). The two ladies working had cool music going, complimented my taste, and spent time to have a full conversation with me about where to get good boots that fit.
And– since it’s consignment, you can drop off your stuff, and get money, honey.
