I can start with why they are two rather than one star… Jason & sales process were great.
Every single thing thereafter was a struggle, head ache, and disappointment! Installment later than projected put me in the middle of the holidays, followed by faulty product which lead to delayed installation on my master and two separate installation windows; each one requiring clearing the garage as a work station for them, as well as any & all furniture!
SIDE NOTE: for almost three weeks I couldn’t park my new car in the garage because they left their installation crap behind while the replacement carpet (for their faulty shipment) was being ordered.
Also, I’ve never had new carpet installed before, but was SHOCKED by their practice of blatantly NOT vacuuming once they were done! I literally had to use my little residential vacuum to suck up over a thousand sq ft of clippings & string. WHY would they not take that one step, especially given the rest of my experience with them?!!
And I’m all about equal opportunity employment, but the installation men were too old to effectively perform their job. I had to (single handedly!) remove ALL furniture AND baseboards! They couldn’t so much as grab the other end of the couch due to «bad backs».
When all was FINALLY said & done, I simply received a «balance due» invoice… no apology, no nothing! There are better places, folks! RUN!

This place is great. I was looking for new carpet, and of all the places I went into, they were the only ones who didn’t treat me like I was crazy for being concerned about the toxic gasses carpet offputs. They were honest and easy to talk to. Very knowledgeable and not at all high-​pressure.

I just called these guys because my cat peed on a section if carpet at the place I’m renting and the smell won’t go away and I have been freaking out. I was really worried about the price of having a guy come out but Jason told me how to fix the problem myself so his guys didn’t need to come out. That was amazing and so thoughtful. I will definitely use these guys in the future and recommend them. I guess all the reviews were right!

Went into Rug Bug to get information about a unique carpet installation issue. We talked to Jason who spent a lot of time with us discussing options available. Jason is great, really personable, and in the end we ended up spending less than we were anticipating and are thrilled with the results. Jason recommended Dan to install the carpet and we were able to schedule with Dan right away. He finished the project within the time and price that he quoted, and the workmanship is fantastic. We will definitely go back to Rug Bug with any future carpet installation projects.

One word… PERFECTION! The first contact with Jason– a phone call to his cell and he picked up. The second contact with Jason — he drove to Sherwood with hardwood floor samples and all the answers to our questions. He knows his stuff and since he is also a realtor he gave us his honest opinion on resale. He gave us a quote right away and told us to talk to other flooring places and if we had any questions to give him a call. After getting and speaking with other flooring places there was NO question who was going to get our business. Jason was never pushy, he knows he is the real deal and not in an arrogant way. Prices competitive with other places, if not better. Well, definitely better compared to some of the shady people that wanted to just install hardwood over our existing tile and not remove baseboard. Jason’s crew completely demo’d the tile bit by bit and removed the baseboard.
Once we decided to go with Rug Bug, we had the floors done while we were on vacation out of state. Jason was in constant contact with us via phone and email when small issues came up. We were never nervous leaving our home open to him and his installers. We came home to the most beautiful acacia floors. Jason and his crew are the real deal, we can’t say enough about them! Won’t hesitate to use them again in the future when we need to re-​carpet stairs and 2^nd floor.
Again, Perfection!

After a year of great service during installation, Jason still calls back asap when posed with questions. Much appreciated that superior service is extended beyond just the installation. Carpet still looks great after a year with a dog and renters. Jason really knows what to suggest and why.

And I’m not just saying how I feel about my new drop-​dead gorgeous acacia wood floors. Those two little words also describe my attitude toward Rug Bug and Jason’s work. All of it’s a wow.
When we bought our house this past spring, we’d been planning to use a floor guy recommended by our awesome realtor, but he turned out to be non-​communicative and unhelpful. So we were kind of on the hunt for someone else, or at least for clearer ideas about what we wanted floor-​wise, and stopped in at Rug Bug.
Jason was so helpful on that initial visit, even though we’d said we weren’t necessarily interested in using his install services and were just looking around to learn more. He gave us a clear and extensive education about our options, and as soon as I said the words «big dog» pointed us toward pre-​distressed floors as a way to accommodate our lifestyle.
So. Right. Furthermore, I’ve never loved the look of shiny new floors, so was quite pleased that my new ones wouldn’t look ‘new.‘
We scheduled the installation for a week that we’d be out of town on vacation (his suggestion for the ideal time to plan one!), so I can’t speak to their daily routines in the house. However, I can say that our entire twenty-​six hour drive home we anticipated the first sight of the new floors, and we weren’t disappointed. They’re lovely, dramatic, and beautifully installed.
Aside from basic floor installation, I really appreciate the care Jason and his team took to get everything right. Our house is the typical old 1920s Portland Craftsman, which means there are no level floors and several weird things to accommodate. Jason anticipated every single one of the issues, discussed options in advance with me, and was able to make everything work in the moment whether that required building a custom shelf for a floor grate or working magic with a door frame.
Whenever we need new floors in the future, we’ll be back to Rug Bug. So. Perfect.

I called Jason after having a bad experience with another contractor who broke promises and deadlines. Jason was polite and patient with my many questions. He expertly explained every part of my project and helped me get it done extremely quickly, professionally and affordably. He and his team are outstanding. Thanks guys!

We’re selling our house in Portland and needed a reasonably priced recarpeting of an entire upper floor and staircase to replace some pretty ugly, old, and worn carpet. We went to a bunch of places and liked Rug Bug’s prices, reviews, and attitude best. Garrett was the salesman and we dealt with owner Jason too. Happily, no upselling occurred. We went with a lower-​cost but decent neutral carpet with a good pad. The schedule was about a week out, which I appreciated. Jay was the installer, and he was early one day and right on time the other. He’s quite a character — funny and friendly and had that old-​school vibe of competence that’s not as common as it should be these days. He and his helper Miles did a great job on some tricky aspects of the space and were even able to carpet a couple of closets that were also a challenge due to the way they were constructed (weird sliding doors). Oh, and they take credit cards with no extra charge, unlike some companies. I’m very happy with the results; the space looks much better now and I think it will help the sale considerably. Thanks, guys. You rock!

Things going through my head about the Rug Bug as I shopped around for floors:
o Yes, the Rug Bug was in a convenient location and they seemed to have a nice selection.
o Yes, they know just about everything there is to know about flooring, from wear and tear down to each company’s ethics.
o Yes, their prices are competitive.
o Yes, being from Philly, I loved Jason’s brutally honest attitude towards sales. He flat-​out told me which products were crap compared to others when answering my specific questions… and which products gave more bang for your buck. That is a rare find in this industry.
But really? Even considering the above, I’m usually a very cautious shopper and take forever to choose. However, every time I walked in with questions, I left thinking that if I hired Jason and his crew, I’d also be getting the added bonus of eye candy. It made it difficult to shop around, so I barely did. So, there you have it. Jason ultimately earned a 1500+ sq ft hardwood floor job by looking good in jeans.
However! The reason I would RE-​hire The Rug Bug if I ever needed more floors… The reason why I’d recommend them to my friend’s lesbian grandma who would have zero interest in staring at a cute, young tattooed guy riding around in a smart car… THAT reason is because Jason’s crew did a stellar job on my floors. High quality work. Everything as promised, and then some. I get a ton of compliments on how great they look, and I’m very happy with my choice in flooring which Jason (very patiently) helped me choose.
Jason is very reachable, honest, and (really!) goes above and beyond in customer satisfaction. If you go through my Unilocal reviews, you will see that I’m not easy to please, but I do stand by a 5 star recommendation here. With extra credit.

After talking to quite a few flooring companies I went to the Rug Bug to see what they had to offer. Jason, the owner, is well informed and very approachable. I told him I was Looking for flooring for my living room, dining room, kitchen and bath. He helped me understand the pros and cons of different flooring. I selected bamboo for all the rooms except the bathroom.
I picked a starting date. His crew arrived when they said they would and were actually finished one day ahead of schedule. They did a fantastic job. The floors look great. The hole process was painless. I highly recommend Rug Bug.

I hired Jason to replace my hardwood flooring in my condo after the refrigerator broke down and ruined some a small portion under the fridge. I decided to replace all the floors and have the hardwood run into the bedroom, replacing the carpet that was there before. Jason and his crew did a great job. They had to cut everything in the unit and I was also living there while the work was being performed. Jason walked me through the process, gave me options to work with, and gave me a competitive price. The floors look great, I’m quite happy.

I realized in late October that I was likely to be moving into a house I had owned for years, but that had been a rental for the past 5. Previous tenants had left the place an utter disaster. The floor was fir and on its last legs. I told Jason the house was likely to be vacant for most of November and wondered if he and his crew could fit me in their schedule. They were already pretty much booked, but he agreed to eek me in between other jobs so that the floors could be finished before I moved into the house.
He and his crew refloored my entire 1800 sq. ft. house with cork in the kitchen and strand woven engineered bamboo elsewhere. It looks so amazing. They had to rebuild the stair treads and there was a bunch of funky weird old house stuff like cutting doors to fit frames that had settled to look like a fun house. The crew took it in stride and Jason worked collaboratively with me at every step to make sure that every tiny detail (giving me time to paint the quarter round, finding flooring transition strips that fit my aesthetic sense and a bunch of other little things) was covered. If my requests were annoying then Jason had the good sense to pretend it was all in a day’s work. Jason was also flexible with payment.
And I am noticing that no one else is really mentioning this, but you can only have so many people rave about the flooring before you get it: yeah, yeah, yeah Jason and the crew are reliable and do good work. But they are also super sweet, adorable and impressed the hell of out a girlfriend of mine who remarked — after we stopped by to see how the floors were going — «So, what? You have some cute hipster boy band remodeling your house? Only in Portland.»
If Jason starts selling «The Men of Rug Bug» calendar I’ll be the first to order 50 copies. I bet it’ll make an awesome stocking stuffer.

We purchased a foreclosure that needed new flooring throughout the house and Jason and his team came through in a big way. We didn’t expect to have floors in until late October or November, but Jason was able to get everything done from bidding the opportunity on a Saturday 45 minutes outside of Portland to completing the whole project finished in one month.
The previous owners of the home hoarded cats. Lots and lots of cats that enjoyed marking every single room of the house, including the linen closet. Even after pulling out all of the old carpet, the house still reeked. Jason’s team painted every square foot of the flooring with BIN primer, 8 gallons worth, and the smell disappeared. He was confident throughout, which certainly eased our minds, and he absolutely delivered on all of his promises. That is so rare these days. Thank you so much Jason and to all of the guys at Rug Bug, you made our home livable! Oh, and the bamboo floors are absolutely gorgeous!

I was referred to Jason at Rug Bug by a colleague of mine when I told him I needed to list a rental property that had been completely thrashed by a tenant (every surface of this home needed to be touched). Jason met me and my client at the house with samples and pricing information for what we needed. We needed new flooring throughout the entire home.
We had checked with two other flooring companies, and Jason not only was the least expensive in his bid, he was extremely helpful and very easy to communicate with. The work was exceptional, completed on time, and on budget.
I am really pleased to have met Jason and to have worked with him. I’m definitely adding Jason and Rug Bug to my «preferred vendors» list and look forward to working with him and his team again in the future. Relationships are key in Real Estate, and I now know that I can call Jason and fully trust his bid, his work ethic, and the quality of the job (both in materials used and work completed).

I was referred to this company as well as others by a real estate acquaintance. The other positive Unilocal reviews posted here prompted me to pick up the phone! I hired Jason, whom I really liked immediately, to take out the wall-​to-​wall carpet and replace it with Jatoba Brazilian cherry hardwood floor upstairs in my new home in Portland. They did such a exemplary job that I subsequently hired them to take out the hardwood floor in the downstairs and replace it with the same hardwood floor that they had installed upstairs. They also replaced the wood in the stairwell, which was not an easy task! I work in the field of visual communication and am extremely detail oriented. If I characterize any work as exemplary, I believe it is truly meticulously done! I am very happy with the results and am complimented the moment people enter my home.
Jason and his subcontractors, lead by Josh, definitely stand by their work. We encountered some hiccups, so to speak, and they have fixed and redone whatever needed to be done without hesitation. Jason has personally extended himself on a number of occasions to ensure that I was happy with the results.
I feel compelled to share that it wasn’t always a smooth experience for me, and I did experience a handful of disappointments both the first and second times. The crew’s daily and overall clean up, for example, is an area that didn’t meet my expectations yet, the reason I have posted 5 stars nonetheless is because of Jason’s deep commitment to customer satisfaction. He will ensure all is well no matter what. If I expressed any concerns, he would do all that he could to reverse my experience.

I was in the market for new flooring and after reading lots of reviews I went to Rug Bug. Jason asked me lots of questions about my house, family makeup, any pets, my preferences for flooring and colors, etc. before recommending flooring. He was very knowledgeable and explained the pros and cons to each one that was in the range of what I was looking for. He was very good at explaining everything while also giving me time and space to come to a decision on my own. No pressure which I really appreciated as it was a hard decision for me.
I ended up choosing a rich, medium brown finished woven strand bamboo. Jason came out the next day, a Sunday, to measure my house. I was putting bamboo in the whole house except the bathrooms and laundry room. He emailed me an estimate the following morning. I normally get three estimates for any work I have done, but based on the reviews and my experience thus far with Rug Bug I committed to them without getting any other estimates.
They started the job three weeks later and showed up when they promised. The crew was great to work with — very pleasant and hard working. I was amazed at how much they got done in a day. They pulled up the old flooring, a medley of cork, carpet and laminate. They also removed all the old 70’s style 1″ trim that I hated for its lack of character. After laying all the new bamboo they installed new 4″ baseboard that changed the whole feel of the house for the better. They also moved all my furniture and then put it all back in place when the job was done. The whole job took seven work days and I could not be happier with the final result. They just finished last night and the difference in my house is amazing. They removed all the debris and old materials plus they did a great job cleaning up after themselves.
I wish I could find more service providers like Rug Bug. They are a tough act to follow. I highly recommend them.

We used Rug Bug to Install our hardwood floors and molding Throughout our whole home besides bathrooms.
Jason and his team did a beautiful Job, and they were a pleasure to work with. We had so many other contractors coming in and out of our home while the Rug Bug guys were working, and everyone always told us how great and hard working our floor guys were. In addition to just being a pleasure to work with, and doing great workmanship, they were right on schedule every day, and came in at their quote. They charged a flat fee for the flooring and a very reasonable hourly fee for the molding.
We would definitely use Rug Bug again for future projects, and I would highly recommend them. They’re fantastic, and I will post pictures of the floors as soon as the house is no longer a construction zone.
