Really glad I found this place. This place has it all: fresh, tasty food, great prices, friendly owner, convenient location, etc. I ordered the Sake 2 Me, which came with 8 fairly large pieces and two sides. I was prepared to pay the $ 10 just for the roll, which seems to be the going rate around PDX, so the addition of two sides was a bonus. The sides were also great. I ordered Yakisoba and California roll(4 pieces). Other sides I can remember include fried dumplings, kimchi, ginger salad, edamame(and a few others I forget, will update). After ordering, the owner said it’ll take him about 5 minutes to make it, which I appreciate because it means it’s fresh. I watched him put on new gloves and roll my order right there– definitely nice to know it hasn’t been sitting around and that there is a sense of cleanliness here! If you need a quick & good sushi fix– bookmark this place.

I got the Momo combo, and it was excellent! I’ve been trying to find healthy, low-calorie options at the food carts, but it’s proving to be difficult. It’s covered in cucumber instead of rice, so it’s very low in carbs, but also super tasty. The seaweed salad was excellent as well! The seared tofu was OK, but didn’t have a lot of flavor. I also liked that they let me customize my order, and didn’t make a big fuss about it. Extra bonus is that they except go boxes!

I tried the snapper hoagie and was not disappointed. This is a huge sandwich with many different flavors. The person explained to my that the flavors were stacked and purposely so. It was really interesting. I wasn’t too sure about the snapper because it’s tempura and usually tempura in the US is greasy, heavy, and just plain gross, but not this tempura! It was a very light and delicate tempura and it was very good! The bread was also really soft and fresh too. The service was also very good and the gentleman that prepared my sandwich was extremely friendly and nice. Definitely make this Asian fusion food truck a stop on your visit to the area.

Hands down one of the best and my personal favorite food carts in Portland. I love sushi but this is just a fresh new take on sushi. Everything is so fresh and delicious, and the owner/chef is so nice! I order something different every time I’m there– the prices are also great– hard to beat anywhere else for the deliciousness you get! If you are in the Portland area, run-don’t walk and get some food here!

This place is hella good. Got the Red Snapper sandwich and it did not disappoint. In fact it impressed the hell out of me. The fist was freshly fried. The veggies on top were crisp. The bread was soft and easy to bite into. ANDTHESAUCEWASSOSAUCY. Like an Asian chipotle sauce. Paired with the red snapper well. Overall: will return. Will be dreaming about this sandwich till I return.

I ordered the chicken rice bowl and it was decent, but nothing to write home about. I also ordered a ginger crab hand roll, and it was pretty mediocre. Gooey imitation crab salad without a ginger taste. I do at least give them props for offering brown rice for everything. Anyway, $ 12 for all of that and it was still not that filling. That would be more understandable if it was $ 12 worth of raw fish, but for chicken and fake crab that’s a little high. Maybe I should have ordered the sushi, but none of the fusiony rolls really looked that appealing to me. Ah well, maybe I’ll still try one next time.

There were so many food trucks in Portland. It was my first time in the city and I had heard that they had a lot of food trucks, but couldn’t believe it was to this level. An entire city block of side to side food trucks. I walked around the entire block, twice, trying to decide what to get and finally settled on Rolling Gourmet Fusion. I decided on the Yakisoba Noodle Combo, which came with a huge portion of noodles and two sides. I took the spicy tuna roll and the fried vegetable dumplings. The food took about 6 or 7 minutes to come out, which was a little long, but worth it. My meal came in a giant plastic container and I was off to go eat it. I really, really enjoyed the Yakisoba noodles. I wish they had some spicy sauce to add to it, but unfortunately there wasn’t any around. I was tempted to grab the Gator Hammock sauce from the truck next door, but withheld. There was a lot of food, but it was all very good. Even the spicy tuna roll, which was a surprise for a cheap side item sushi. The real star though was the noodles. Overall I was satisfied. There are just too many options to commit to coming back, but it was a great meal and I’d recommend it if you are having trouble deciding on what to eat!

I had the fried snapper hoagie which was baked tempura fried snapper with avocado, cilantro, tomato and some delicious wasabi cream sauce. Such good food! The sauce is the kicker in this dish. The flavors linger on long after your hoagie is gone. I can’t wait to try their other dishes. You know those days when you are hungry and can’t really describe what you want but want to be left inspired? Go try them.

Tried the spicy pork hoagie and the fried snapper hoagie. While the spicy pork was good, the freshness and the crispness of the snapper was exquisite. And when I’m recommending fish over pork, it means something.

This is my best sushi value in Portland. The sushi rolls are huge and non-traditional in the best way possible. There are other places you can go for modest sushi for similar prices, but at Rolling Gourmet it’s out of this world. The fact that it competes in the food cart scene and is two blocks from my office is just icing on the cake. The sandwiches here might be the better take away item. They’re huge, the fish is fresh and fried, and the sauces drizzled on top are packed with flavor.

Yes, fusions and mash-ups are trendy. Some businesses want to ride that trend to easy money — but not this one. They actually care about making great food. Just watch the effort they put into preparing your order. They know anything that’s fried or toasted should be eaten as soon as it’s made. That means waiting a little. And it’s worth it. I love that they didn’t drown everything in sauces. Just a tad of sweet sauce here, a little bit of creamy mayo there, and let the fresh ingredients speak for themselves. Cheers to the tempura red snapper hoagie!

Sake 2 Me Roll –yum! It’s basically a california roll with salmon on top. Simple yet delicious Cucumber sunomuno — light cucumber salad with hints on vinegar and sesame, the most refreshing thing I’ve had in this hot day!

Even though I check out other carts, I seem to have a monogamous relationship with this one. This food satisfies! From the kimchi tempora roll to the perfectly slimy and sesame oily seaweed salad, I’m in mouth love. This food cart is as good as sex. Seriously.

A spicy pork hoagie from a food cart before heading off to the airport? Don’t mind if I do! You can circle this pod for an hour looking for just the right meal, so when I only had a short time before having to catch a flight, I found this cart and jumped on it. Well, I mean, not on top of the cart. But I mean to say that when I saw some creative looking hoagies on the menu, I went for it. My spicy Korean hoagie hit the spot. It felt a little American and a little Korean, and for some reason, even a little Vietnamese. Hence the«fusion» in their name. It was just enough kick to let me feel my lips, but nothing I’d consider too spicy. The main feature here seems to be the sushi rolls and combos, as well as the sides/small plates. I needed my food to be handheld so I go the sandwich, but it would be wise to check out the other stuff. If I recall there were a couple of other sandwiches that seemed to have a fusion fest going on inside, but my weakness for Korean food was too great.

Synopsis: Korean/Japanese dishes that are flavorful and innovative. I was riding my bike downtown to lunch and realized that Sushi Ichiban is always closed on Monday. This place, except for the price, is a decent substitute. They did a lot right. The menu consists of «Combos» from $ 8 – 10 and small-side«kickers» for between $ 2.50−3 depending on how many you buy. The combo consists of a 10-piece sushi roll or a Korean main(pork, tofu, kimchi over rice or spicy chicken over rice) with two sides. They even have three hoagies that are a fusion of American and Korean food. The sides are a decent array of everything from yakisoba to homemade stuffed wontons to a four-piece California roll to kimchi. We had the Red Roll – a tempura shrimp roll replete with a thin, crunchy slice of jalapeño, a bit of mayo and tobiko – and the spicy pork/tofu/kimchi dish. For the sides, we got the wontons, the California Roll, wakame(seaweed) salad and yakisoba. All of it was delicious. Of particular import: the wontons were vegetarian and the gari(pickled ginger) seemed to be housemade and fresh. It was zingy and delicious. The pork was typical of most Korean places’ spicy pork, but the roll had a great crunch, flavor and texture. The crunchy Cali roll sported little tempura bits on top as well. It was a nice touch. Scores: Time: We got our order in about 9 minutes. We were done eating within the half hour. Value-1: Well, although it was very tasty, you can’t win them all. Our total order was $ 18 for the two dishes, which is a bit steep considering… Gut check at 3pm: I had to have a coconut water at about 2:30 and a couple of handfuls of nuts at 3:00. In short, I’m hungry. Sustainability-2: I was able to use my Go Box subscription which was nice. No other eye toward local or organic, though, seemed to be on the table. Fear Factor-3: Average: sushi out of a cart still seems a bit daunting for some. My dining companion protested the option of eating scallops, for example. The place seemed clean and very good – after eating there once, I think any hesitations will wash away. Staying Power-3: Average: It doesn’t have a flashy or trendy marketing ploy and it is amongst some pretty decent contenders in the area. If you go, though, I think you’ll be impressed by the quality of the food. I will be going back, most definitely. Creativity-4: These guys nail some creative rolls and sides. I can’t stress the quality of the food enough, but combined with the Korean/Japanese options, they could go one step further by fusing them. Nevertheless, all of the rolls seemed appealing and none of them seemed to come from a script given buy their cousin to get them off the ground, like with some of these other places we’ve tried.

The longer you live in Portland, the more you lose instinctive fear for you life as there is no crime, barely any conflict, and almost everyone is high. Eventually you’ll say to yourself«Sushi made to order out the back of a truck? Sounds good to me.» The fact that I’ve eaten this cart sushi many, many times and have not yet died automatically merits 2 stars. The other two are because their options are delicious, reasonably priced, and almost everything they do is great. I can’t vouch for their fusion hoagies(maybe need more time in Portland before I get that craving) and I still have a few side options to experiment with, but for the most part you can’t go wrong. Personal favorites are the seaweed salad /veggie dumplings. The sushi options, while delicious, aren’t particularly«fusion» or exotic in anyway. In fact, almost everything is tempura based. Most combos are really just slight variations of the same order, which is kind of a downer. There’s no really good salmon option that I know of either. Still, these are minor complaints in the grand scheme of things where they are great at what they do and I am also not dead.

I love the creative combinations of ingredients they use. I tried the fried snapper hoagie. Lots of layers of flavors as you bite into one of these. Can’t wait to try the others when I’m back in town!

Finally good sushi from a food cart. I have not had the best luck with sushi from food carts. Some carts have been good but some have really been nothing to remember about. Considering this history this cart is a breathe of fresh air. They have very good combo deals for $ 11 – 12. Where you can choose a roll, and two sides. We had the volcano roll. As it was supposed to be crunchy and spicy, just the way I like it. On the side we had crunchy California, as we love crunchy sushi, and kimchi salad. Needless to say, given the build up, the sushi was amazing. The side order of crunchy California was also very good. All in all a good deal and even better sushi. Check it out…

Rolling Gourmet caught my eye for its unique fusion sushi and sandwich options. I got the Dynamite Roll($ 8), which comes with a choice of two sides. I opted for the 4-piece California Roll and Korean kimchi. The Dynamite Roll has asparagus, avocado, and cucumber topped with baked tempura snapper(so I guess it’s fried and baked) and wasabi pico de gallo. Yup, wasabi pico de gallo. More Asian fusion to blow my mind. Extremely colorful presentation. Fresh ingredients and a nice portion size for the amount paid. I also enjoyed the kimchi. There are also six Lunch Box Combos for $ 7 each. Each combo comes with kimchi fried rice and two side items. Those Korean dishes just scream amazing flavor. There are three sandwiches highlighted at Rolling Gourmet: the Korea-Anna Hoagie($ 7; choice of Korean BBQ chicken or Korean spicy pork), Cajun Shrimp Hoagie($ 8), or a Fried Snapper Hoagie($ 8; same baked and fried snapper as the fish on the Dynamite Roll combo). Another great food cart in downtown PDX!
