I had a wonderful meal here. Macaroni and cheese was delicious(I just wish there was more of it.)

It was OK but not worth the steep price. You can get better BBQ for far cheaper in Portland.

I love the food here! I usually order online or over the phone for delivery while I’m stuck doing homework or chores. Barbeque for delivery is an awesome idea. Everytime it’s great quality, hot, and delicious! Today I got my order really quick, kudos to the cute lady who delivers my food ;) I will definitely order again in the future!

Road Runner Barbecue has gotten many good reviews on Unilocal, especially about their beef brisket, so I was eager to finally try them out. The most common adjectives that were used to describe Road Runner’s brisket was«moist» and«tender». Well, that’s exactly what I was looking for. I’ve been to several BBQ places that have good brisket, and I was hoping Road Runner would be good too, since they’re closer to my house than any of the other places. With great anticipation, I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich. Hmmm, maybe it was just a bad day for them, but the brisket was definitely NOT moist and tender. I was disappointed to find that actually it was quite dry and tough. I would describe those slices of meat as seeming as though they were not freshly sliced and had been sitting around for awhile getting dried out. Oh well, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and try them again another day.

The bbq chicken and brisket are both amazing. Very flavorful and juicy. The customer service is great; super friendly. I definitely give the meat 5 stars, it’s the sides that take it down a star. Wish there were more options, like some collard greens or something. The current sides are average compared to the perfection of the meat!

Holy Smoke! That’s some durn fine BBQ right there! Had the sliced brisket, which was actually smoked instead of steam smoked like some others. Big heaping portion of meaty heaven y’all! Really good sides too. Usually the sides kill a BBQ joint for me, but not here. Coleslaw was good, not too tangy or sweet. Potato salad wasn’t what I’m used to, but really good. The roll was yum. Sauces are both very good with the spicy being my favorite. I’d like to get my hands on that recipe… The service was amazing too, with a wonderful smile.

Without a doubt the best BBQ Brisket in Oregon. The sides are also amazing! How amazing BBQ come out of this food truck is beyond me… But the smoker is always going, and they are super friendly… When you’re in PDX and you have a hankering for smoked meat… This is your huckleberry!

This is the best barbecue I’ve eaten in Portland by far. I grew up in Georgia and ate pork barbecue almost every week and Road Runner really satisfied my cravings. I don’t have much experience with brisket but I know deliciousness when I taste it and I’m now a big fan. I think the chopped brisket plate will be my regular go-to when I order from Road Runner. Generous portions and friendly service. The pork butt sandwich is also tasty and satisfying. I’m thrilled to find good barbecue less than a mile from my house. I only wish I knew about Road Runner sooner lol.

Really pleased with our food here. Brisket slices were tender and moist, chopped pork was good and the ribs were fantastic. Sides average. Kind of accustomed to my Mom’s great potato salad recipe, so this one seemed a bit dry and under-seasoned for my taste, but still was good. The service was great and the owner really friendly and engaging. I will be back here again soon. Always love to hit Podnah’s, but Road Runner is so close, not over-run by customers and very high quality to go. Sauces(medium and hot) were solid. Highly recommended.

This place is pretty spot on for authentic Texas style BBQ. The hefty portion of brisket is consistent and smokey with a nice pink ring around the outside-just the way it should be! Like most BBQ joints in Portland the sides aren’t really that standout, but they’re not bad either. The mac and cheese is straight up no-frills comfort food mac like yo’ momma made and the baked beans taste like what you’d expect at backyard cookout. All in all, a great BBQ experience with super friendly service and reasonable prices.

I hate writing a negative review, especially on a small/local business and against the grain of what everyone else thinks is great. The whole reason we tried this was because of the positive reviews. My girlfriend and I both had negative reactions to the food — her with violent vomiting and me with the most intense heartburn/acid reflux. I paid $ 11 for the chopped pork meal with potato salad and mac & cheese. The only positive thing I can say is that the roll was good. After two bites of the pork I immediately started experiencing the worst case of heartburn/acid reflux. I have a high tolerance for spicy food — not just pepper heat, but spices in general. Never in my life have I had this. The pork was WAY over seasoned and extremely salty. I had hoped the two sides would help the heartburn go away, but no luck. The Potato Salad was dry and lacked much flavor and had large chunks of onion. The Mac N Cheese was mediocre — reminding me of cafeteria food. I ate about ¼ of my meal, and then tossed it. I went to the store and bought Tums and ate some crackers with cheese. This morning, my tongue feels burned from salt. My girlfriend had the $ 5 chicken hind quarter meal. She immediately thought the chicken was over-spiced too and only had a couple of bites before tossing it. Soon after, she became sick — vomitting all night long. This morning as I started typing this, she ran to the bathroom to get sick again. We also bought a bottle of sauce for $ 4 which will also get tossed since we don’t really know what the culprit is in the food to make us both have these reactions. That was a wasted $ 20 we blew on dinner. The service was good and friendly, hence the 1 extra star. Hopefully we won’t be sick the whole holiday weekend.

Gorgeous Texas-style bbq brought to us from a retired butcher from Lone Star country. Retired feller had a hard time staying retired, so he saw the swollen, vexing void in our community for adequate bbq. So as a sort of ongoing public service, and as a way to pass on a most marketable skill to his grown daughter, the Food Cart that we have had and whose victuals we have been enjoying for 3+ years now is the result, and we are all enriched for his efforts and vision! The brisket is definitely the main event here, and is smoky, tender delight. The pork butt is quite nice as well, as is the chicken, but both lack a little in juiciness. The pork ribs(available on weekends, and yes, I know, nada is mentioned about any ribs on the menu) were outstanding, a true butcher’s choice cut, w/plenty of quality flesh, to be fully enjoyed w/the house regular or spicy bbq sauces. No, dearhearts, the spicy sauce isn’t causing mass hysterics or trips to the ER… but it offers a pleasing, tart little tang. It’s passable. The service from daughter was the height of Texan hospitality and maybe we can convince olé girl to open up a Texan style charm school here in Portland… it is the lingering dream of my life, to marry a charm school dropout… the bad girl runaway who thumbed her nose at her own débutante ball… Git r dunnnnn, RRBBQ!

I may have made the mistake of eating here right before eating at Podnah’s Pit, and I’m not sure if I’m going to be influenced by comparing apples and oranges, but c’est la vie. I went with some friends on a BBQ day. This was our lunch spot, Podnah’s was our dinner spot. First, I’ll say that the service here was really nice. The food, though, I felt was kind of beh. That said, I spent $ 5, but in retrospect, I’m not sure I would spend $ 5 on what I ate again. I ordered 1 pork spare rib and 1 side(mac n cheese) while my friends split a combination plate of 2 sides and brisket. It came with a roll, which seemed like an ordinary cold roll, and I gave it to my friend. The mild bbq sauce was sweet, and not really up my alley. The hot bbq sauce was a bit better, but still too sweet for my tastes, so I wasn’t a super fan and I ended up eating my ~one rib mostly plain. The rib did come cleanly off the bone, and had a good smokey flavor, However, the rib tips were not trimmed, so there was a tube of cartilage in it, which is cool I guess. I just felt ungirly and awkward spitting it out among friends. Luckily, it’s BBQ and the whole process can be awkward. The brisket was dry and not very tender(my friends gave me some to try) and I probably would never order that were I to come back here again. The mac n cheese was probably the worst part of the lunch. My friend said it was worse than cafeteria mac n cheese, and I’d have to agree. It was pretty flavorless and done in the style of Kraft macaroni and cheese rather than a baked macaroni and cheese. That was definitely a waste of $ 2 from the side menu. Anyway, I’m completely in the minority of reviewers here, and perhaps i’m missing the boat. For $ 5, I got a filling and mostly edible lunch — in fact the ~one rib was pretty good, but I’m not certain I’d do it again. I could go to Podnah’s and for not really THAT much more, get some pretty quality pulled pork.

This is it, the best barbecue in Portland, the brisket is outstanding, tender and moist with a nice dark bark. The ribs are massive, perfectly cooked and appear as if something Fred Flintstone would enjoy. Nothing comes sauced, all sauce is on the side, I grew up in Texas-this is the correct way. The sides are as good as the mains and just as plentiful. Giant servings of mac ‘n cheese, beans, or potato salad round out one of the best food cart experiences in the city.

Fantastic BBQ — both the sliced and chopped brisket are amazing. Nice portion for $ 11(chopped) or $ 12(sliced). We got both in one order. Sides are good, especially liked the potato salad. Service is outstanding, as the lady suggested the combo order, was very patient with us and delivered our order to the beer drinking area. Mac and cheese seemed like Velveeta, maybe not homemade, but tasty in a remember-your-childhood kind if way. On different trips, also had cole slaw and beans, both very good. I highly recommend this place for great brisket and Texas style BBQ.

We ordered beef brisket and pork as well as a couple of pounds of coleslaw for a little backyard celebration we were having. Everyone loved the food! The beef brisket was tender and full of good flavor, and the pork was a smoky delight. They provided barbecue sauces(hot and mild) that were great on the meat. Sweet but not too sweet. We called ahead to place our order because it was a big one, and they had it ready to go when we arrived. The people were friendly. We will definitely come back for More of their delicious food.

This is the best food cart BBQ in town I’ve found(solid 4 – 5 star quality), and yes, it even compares to some of the best brick-and-mortar shops, too(at far lower prices). The«pork butt»(pulled pork) and beef brisket were amazingly moist, tender and juicy. The owner, Jimmy, is a former professional butcher, and his partner used to work at a meat shop, too, so they know their stuff. Now that Jimmy’s retired and had is fill of fishing, he has PLENTY of time to spend smoking all of his meats for 14+hrs(getting up multiple times throughout the night to make sure the temperature and smoke are optimal). All the sides are house-made and I found most of them to be ~3 star quality(the potato salad was my favorite, but the mac and cheese was a little lacking). I’m a mac and cheese nut, so if they could bump up the quality there a bit, I’d be a much more frequent customer.

Holy smoking brisket! Ever since Road Runner moved to the Carts on Foster, I’ve been aching to try their BBQ. Before catching a movie«The World’s End», my friend and I decided last minute to check this place out. It was probably the best detour and spontaneous decision I made that evening. We met the owner, Jimmy, and he let us sample his chopped brisket. Sadly the sliced brisket was sold out but the chopped brisket won me over. After eating the sample, I felt as if smoke rings wanted to pop out of my mouth. I ordered an entrée with baked beans and mac and cheese as side choices. My friend got the pork butt entrée. It also comes with a potato roll all for $ 11. For BBQ sauces, you get a choice of mild or spicy. House made pickles are available for consumption too. Plastic and cash are heartily accepted so no need to run to the ATM. The chopped brisket had an amazing smoky finish with each bite. The potato roll was great for making a mini side Sammy if one desires so. I like how the how BBQ sauce has just enough kick and bite without over powering my taste buds. The heat kicks in after each bite is consumed. The sides were just OK — the mac and cheese is easily forgettable and was probably my least favorite. The baked beans go well with the chopped brisket and adding it together definitely helps boosting the taste and texture. I sampled the pork butt — surprisingly not too greasy and still had that smoky finish similar to the brisket. I made a 2nd trip a week later and luckily the sliced brisket was available. The owner’s daughter was happily to hear I wanted to come back as soon as I could. Once the brisket arrived I was overjoyed to see the beautiful smoke rings present with each slice. It was not dry upon eating and I only needed a little spicy BBQ sauce to top it off. The baked beans were a lot better this time around whereas the potato salad tasted best when adding the sliced pickles. The mac and cheese that my friend had was pretty sad, all soupy and meh. The entrees are the best value option as anyone can easily get 2 meals out of it. The meats are smoked at least 13 hours and the owner takes great pride in his BBQ. One of my friends who went with me on my 2nd visit even said the sliced brisket was better than Poodnah’s — you didn’t hear it from me LOL!!!
