Stopped by Reo’s Ribs on the way home for some take out — and to try out the new place. My order was quickly taken and handed to me after a short wait. We had the baby back ribs, fries and green salad. The salad and fries were great. I like to chew on tough meat, but I think that ribs shouldn’t be too charred, more like BLACKENEDRIBS! On the other hand, they started tasting better and better and we both cleaned out plates.

We were there for dine in Spent $ 30+tip and bought take out$ 43+another tip(I should’ve checked the food). There there there. We were shorted ribs and the container they use for your plate sides ISTHESAMECONTAINERSIZETHEYPUTRICEANDGUMBOINTOGETHER. THESAMEWITHRICEANDOXTAILS!!! Seriously. Seriously Loss Protential Regular Customer! We were given 1 whole piece and 3 quarter size of a half size piece. During dine in, I received 3 whole pieces of rib… So Disappointed! Now back to the drawing board of finding Ribs :(

Have went twice. First order was a half rack of beef ribs. Over cooked, but it’s dryness was masked by a more than healthy portion of sauce covering them. Disappointed, but okay enough for a second shot. Today, 2⁄3 of my order were not even close to my original order. Asked for chicken no sauce, greens, and potato salad. Received pork with BBQ sauce(don’t eat pork), greens, and beans. Unfortunately didn’t discover this until I arrived home. Not worth the time for the exchange. Back to Canon’s Ribs I go.

Really? 15 $ for a half rack and you wont let me use your restroom? Is that even legal. I dont care how good your bbq is. Thats B.S.

Also bitterly disappointed. My brisket was 60% fat and 40% completely tough to chew stringy meat. The ribs were ok but not memorable, especially since the sides are so average. The beans tasted straight from the can. The mac & cheese was just average, although the greens were really good. Delicious cornbread, tiny serving. I’ve had way better meals at previous Reo’s-every relocation has been downhill for the food.

I really wantd to like this place. I am in this area once a week and a go to bbq joint would have fit in nice. I have had lots of good bbq and cooked lots of good bbq. I am from Kansas City. That being said, I am not overly critical towards bbq looking for the perfect meat and the perfect doneness like a bbq snob. I know that bbq is can be very inconsistent and the time of day you go is a factor. I have had bad bbq from some of the best bbq joints in the u. s– I know the game. I can’t beat cooking it myself and I accept that. I ordered a plate with Baby backs– this was a bad decision. I got 3 small ribs that were cooked at too hot of a temperature and were dry with the membrane still on them. I suggest taking the baby backs off the menu and just offer the spare ribs. Spare ribs are not as temperamental due to the added greasiness. I also suggest adding onion rings to the menu. I wanted to order a brisket sandwich, however I will not eat a brisket sandwich without an onion ring on top. I know it sounds stupid, but try it. Its a game changer. An onion ring or two on a brisket sandwich can save a poorly cooked brisket. The collard greens are reordable and the cornbread was meh.

Great BBQ joint. Had the pork ribs, collared greens, and Mac n cheese for lunch. There are quite a few things I’d like to try on the menu. Food and service were both great and I got a chance to talk with Reo briefly. Good guy and I’m glad he’s in the neighborhood! I will definitely be back with friends.

Great place! We had a hearty lunch that was pretty darn dee-lish! I had the fried catfish, which was a generous portion. The batter was a little salty for my taste, but it contrasted nicely with the sweetness of the tartar sauce. Bert had the garlic stewed chicken over rice, which was a revelation. So good! The cornbread was a bit on the dry side and served without butter(you have to ask), and it was sweet in a southern way. The hush puppies were also a little sweet, but savory and perfectly fried. In the same sweetness vein, the coleslaw was too sweet for me. Again, a southern thing. At least you can get ice tea unsweetened. I know everybody else will argue about the barbeque, so I’ll leave it to them. But I think this is a great place, and the antiquey ambiance in the old Hollywood Burger Bar makes for a happy, friendly vibe. The service at the counter was excellent, in spite of the fact it was busy. I want to go back and try many of the other things on the menu.

Bitterly disappointed. Since it is in my neighborhood, i really wanted this to be good. Went to get a brisket sandwich but they do not offer one so I got the brisket plate instead. $ 14 with two sides and cornbread. The cornbread was quite good, everything else was inedible. The brisket was(no exaggeration) 80% fat. I like a brisket with some fat on it, but this was ridiculous. And the small portion of meat that was there was tough as shoe leather. Sauce was cloyingly sweet, mac-n-cheese was soggy, and baked beans were super sweet mush. Topped off with cool indifferent service and this was a one time experience I’ll try to soon forget.

I love the smell of barbecue. I love the smokiness of good barbecue and of course I love the taste when it’s done right. When one is wandering around Hollywood in recent weeks, you’ll notice that you can smell it wherever you are, and then you wonder, where is it coming from? Well, the answer to the question is at the former spot of the old Hollywood Burger Bar. Introducing Reo’s, well at least in a new location. Reo’s has been around for some time but has changed locations. For those in the know, this is the uncle of one Snoop D-O double G. Fo-shizzle. As for those smells that drew this barbecue lover in??? Well, there’s a rather impressive smoker that sits on the side of the building. Unfortunately, I was unable to find out the wood they were using, but it’s not an overpowering taste when it comes to the meat. As for the food? There was good and not so good. First off, the pork was unreal. I got the $ 6 combo with a sandwich(choice of meat includes pulled pork, BBQ chicken or Mississippi sausage, for an extra $ 3 you can get brisket) a side and a drink. Small sides are $ 3. So I got pulled pork with slaw and a side of mac & cheese. The pulled pork(more like chunks of pork) was the highlight. Big olé chunks of slightly charred pork, dripping with a mild sauce, that in no way interfered with the taste of the meat or the smokiness of it either. It was very well balanced. In other words, Reo knows his stuff when it comes to smoking meat. The mac & cheese was a little oily at the bottom but with jalapeño mingling its way throughout, it too was pretty darn good. The one shortcoming, which other tips and reviews have mentioned is the coleslaw. REO has some special sauce of his own making he puts on the shredded cabbage, but its way too sweet, like Karo syrup sweet and needs a contrast like vinegar or some of the jalapeños that he likes to put in the mac. I wasn’t a fan of it. If you’ve been here before when it was the burger bar, it’s small, so I’m guessing it can get pretty busy during lunch. According to the woman running the front, the day I was there was a rare slow day since they’ve been open. But the meat is worth it. It’s a good location in Hollywood, since there is no other barbecue close by, so it’s worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood. I’ll be back to try some ribs or chicken soon. Enjoy.

Holy moly! The best collard greens and bbq beans I’ve here in P-Town. The chicken had a smoke ring that was so beautiful, I sat staring at it for awhile before I tasted it – which did not disappoint! Had one of the hub’s hushpuppies – ah-maz-ing!!! The people are friendly, the service is good and the location sweet! We’ll be back for sure :-)

I don’t know how they even pass the health inspection. Dirty and horrible food! Ribs were dry, no flavor and tasted like microwavable food. The cook was using a shower hat and had a bat attitude. I would not recommend and will definitely wont go back.

I was getting my hair cut across the street when she told me a BBQ place had just opened up across the street. It literally opened at 11a today. A guy came in and said they have a special going on, $ 6 gets you a pulled pork or chicken sandwich, fries and a drink. It was about lunch and this guy just so happened to be hungry so I made my way over to check them out. Don’t sleep on this place. I got their $ 6 pulled pork sandwich lunch special, comes with fries and it was off the chain good! Service is fast and friendly. It’s a small place with super limited seating. The place seats maybe 15 people total. It’s owned by Snoop Dog’s uncle which is pretty cool. Hoping to see him in here one day. That would be cool

Super yummy food, but FYI some of it is on the sweet side. The catfish was perfect with just the right cornmeal to fish ratio. The Mac n cheese was good, so was the cole slaw(condiment for cole slaw was sweet but on the side so you could choose how much). The ribs and pulled pork sandwich were also really good — smoky and substantial with a thick, tangy, almost pineappley sauce. We will definitely be back for more — can’t wait to try the rest of the menu!

You might want to read through reviews of the previous Reo’s locations — same business but has moved several times. My visit to the current location, in Hollywood, was my first to any of the Reo’s locations, although I have certainly heard people rave about the food and even have tasted it when people brought it to parties. My friend and I were walking by the place and were bowled over by the sights and aromas. There were two cool-looking guys working at a terrific handmade barbecue rig, as an enormous, fragrant cloud of smoke enveloped the whole block. It was impossible not to stop in to try the food. We split the baby-back ribs with coleslaw and greens. I am not going to pan the ribs too much, because this is Portland, not Memphis. In Memphis(or Kansas City, or many parts of the rural South) there are dozens of great barbecue places to choose from, and people will argue about the merits of different barbecue places for almost as long as they’ll argue about college football. But in Portland, really, the only serious slow-cooked Southern-style ribs are at EaT: an Oyster Bar on Thursday nights, or at Podnah’s. Still, with the look of the cooks, and the fragrant smoke, I had high expectations here at Reo’s. I thought maybe I’d add one more to the list of great Portland barbecue. Nope. It’s OK. But seems precooked or cooked too fast — doesn’t have the right texture. And they came covered in a sweet barbecue sauce. When one of the cooks asked how we liked it we commented on that, and he said there were two hot sauces available as options instead of the sweet one. I guess you should ask about sauces when you order, because we didn’t know and the server didn’t volunteer that info. The place is new, though, and they were crowded, so maybe it skipped her mind. The greens were excellent. I would rank them up with any other greens in town or even down South. The coleslaw, like the barbecue sauce, was too sweet. Maybe some of the other sides and meats are good, we didn’t try anything else. Just for the experience, the look and smell of this place, you might want to try it! And maybe some of their foods will live up to the image.

A small group of us went for lunch shared Baby Back Ribs, Beef Brisket, Pork Roast, Collard greens, cornbead, yams, red beans & rice and hush puppies. Everything was great, the collard greens were a big hit with our group. Looking forward to working our way down the rest of the menu.
