Precision Motor Car

Really some of the best mechanics I’ve ever had. There have been several things that went wrong with my Passat that they made clear to me that I could wait to fix until they really broke. They really try to give the best advice, and I really feel like they have my interests at heart. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone. You will not get better service anywhere else.

Precision motor is an excellent place to take your car. The people there are extremely knowledgeable, and they share their knowledge in a friendly and respectful manner. Super kind and funny, fabulous customer service, and they definitely know how to fix cars.

I don’t know what to say about this shop. I don’t know if 5 stars is enough to do them justice. I continue to be amazed by their customer service and willingness to share their knowledge and their own free time. Case in point, I dropped off my ’89 Vanagon this morning, hoping they could fit me in, to take care of some much needed things before I left for my 10 day vacation to the redwoods. They couldn’t make any promises but they squeezed me in to their full schedule because they knew how important this trip was for me. While that was service enough to earn 5 stars they pulled out all the stops when they realized that I had busted studs on an alternator bracket and it was not a good situation. I was very likely to be left high and dry at some point in the near future, and it’d probably be when I was farthest from home. Rather than wish me the best, Darrell and Trevor started right in to wrenching on my van… after the shop was closed. They didn’t even hesitate once, they each took time out of their personal lives, stayed an hour late, and got me back on the road with as much piece of mind as one can have when they own a 26 year old vehicle heading on a 1,000 mile journey. In the end he charged me for the parts. Yep, just for the parts. Who does that now days? Not many. As a small shop and small business owner I feel there are none better than Darrel and his crew. I consider them to not only be my mechanics of choice but my friends. Thanks Precision Motor Car, you made my day and I can’t thank you enough.

I’ve taken my two Audis to Precision for about eight years, and have only good things to say about them. I love a shop that tells me what needs to be fixed on my car, but prioritizes the problems. So, sometimes they warn me that a fix is coming down the road, but it does not need to be done right away. All the work that they have done for me has been solid, and at a reasonable price.

Most honest place I’ve taken my Subaru to in Portland. Had been to the dealer a couple years ago for a recall and they told my my heads were leaking, which was a common problem with my 2008 Outback, and that they needed to be done right away — $ 2500. Wanted a second opinion so found Darrell on Unilocal.He said it was NOT an emergency and to just keep a watch on it as it was a very small leak. Was sold on the shop right there so continued taking it in for oil changes (great deal there too) so they could monitor. He said, ideally if we could wait til close to 105k miles, he could do the service due at that time which includes the water pump and timing chain. We did make it and he did that whole service plus the heads for slightly less that what the dealer quoted me for heads. Never going anywhere else!

These guys were great. I broke a transponder chip in my only key and had to have the whole car towed there. The price was reasonable and they were able to fix it as well as being really nice.
The VW dealership quoted me 260 $ just for a new key. I’ll just say I paid less than half that.

I have converted my 91 VW Vanagon to run with a Subaru engine. I very seldom trust my vehicles to a mechanic mostly because I’ve rarely had a good experience and have some trust issues. I was having some trouble passing DEQ testing recently and took my van into Precision to have them take a look. The outcome was a good conversation (no repairs or changes) with their team about the issue with very helpful advice and knowledgeable information.
I have and will continue to recommend Precision Motor Car to my friends. An honest and reliable source of auto repair.

These guys are great. The shop was recommended to me by a friend, and I’m so thankful to have found them. They are friendly and trustworthy, and have your best interests in mind. When a repair was needed, they thoroughly explained the issue and provided options so I could make an educated decision. And when bringing my VW Passat in for 80K service recently, they didn’t find anything wrong. A sign of an honest mechanic!

I needed a new mechanic specializing in VWs because I now own one. Burback Motors that I’ve trusted my Benz with for years recommended them. I’ve been there twice for minor issues-​battery replacement and key issue. Prompt, knowledgeable service is what I encountered both times. Mechanics in the past tend to over explain issues-​these guys were straight to the point and honest. I’m recommending them to anyone I know with a VW!

This is the only place to go for VW/​Audi service. Excellent customer service! Absolute honesty and integrity, very rare qualities to find in mechanics. Highly recommend you bring your car here!

These guys are absolutely incredible. I really never thought I’d find a mechanic I could trust, but this is it. Darryl has been kind, compassionate and honest every time I’ve brought my car to him. Their prices are very reasonable and they never charge for work that isn’t done. I’m a huge fan and I’m grateful to have found them.

Darrell and his team have been caring for my Audi for the past 7 years. Service has always been terrific and reasonably priced. When we learned they are now servicing Subarus, we were thrilled. They’ll now be getting both of our cars.

When traveling from Seattle to San Diego in my Audi A6, my blinking engine light came on I was lucky enough to be a mile away from Precision. Truly a blessing. Darryl immediately assessed the situation from my description of the problem, and rather than suggest taking care of it himself, thought it might be covered by the dealer under a recall, and sure enough my A6 was fixed for free. Darryl helped arrange everything with the dealer and tow all out of the goodness of his heart and reputation. In a time of feeling overwhelmed, he really was looking out for the customer and we could not be more grateful for his help. Highly recommend.

If your looking for a straight forward and honest mechanic, then you have found them! I have taken my vw there for two years and this time around they had to refer me for a transmission. Darrell was more than helpful and always talks through options. his referral was just as honest and thorough. Look no further, these guys are really fantastic.

These guys know VW’s. I had a complete engine swap done on a 83 Vanagon. It went down better than i could have ever hoped for. The engine is so awesome a (Go Westy GVW 2200). I was pleased to find that the final bill was lower than my estimate for the labor and the parts that they supplied. Now my Vanagon camper is king of the road with lots of horsepower. You can trust this shop to do it right.

Brought a VW New Beetle for a prepurchase inspection for any mechanical problems. They did more then that which is great BUT they took door panels off etc, and could not get them properly back on. Now the person that I was attempting to buy the car from is going after legal action unless I pay for the repairs that this mechanic has done. BAD for business, not happy what so ever. I have nothing to say to these people because it is MY fault for taking it to such a place that won’t take responsibility.

Very knowledgeable staff and owners. Very easy to find, on Grande Ave. A good VW, BMW and Subaru specialty shop that isn’t priced like a dealership is hard to find. Support small business and give this shop a try. I’ve never been dissapointed.

I’ve owned 5 VW’s in the last 12 years and I have taken each one to Darrell at Precision Motor Car. I can’t tell you how nice it is to have a reliable mechanic that I can trust. I would and have recommended Precision to anyone with a Volkswagen. You will never regret it. They are awesome!

This is my favorite place to get work done on my Volkswagen. I found them after trying to get a problem with an EPC light on in my dash fixed by both the dealership and another mechanic in Portland. Both times, the light came back on a few days after and was another $ 300 fix. I explained this to Darrell, who owns Precision, and he kindly explained to me what they were going to do to fix my problem, and if the light came back on that they would go back in and work on it for free. This is something neither the dealership or the other mechanic was willing to do. This was a few years ago, the light hasn’t come on since the first time. They’re always super friendly, honest, and have fair prices. I went in today to have my oil changed, and now Darrell’s son works at the shop too, so they’re really a family business! It’s a nice atmosphere. They do Porsche, Audi, and VW. They have a website,
