Portland Tub and Tan

While it seems an odd concept, I highly recommend. Clean rooms, great experience, and affordable!

Only been here twice but very pleased with the indoor hot tub rooms we had. Next time I will get an outdoor tub. It is awesome to be in a hot tub while it rains.

We’ve been back here a few times since my first review, and it’s only fair that I update my review. Each time we’ve gone, there has always been someone at the front desk to greet us, and we usually don’t have to wait too long to get a room.
I’d highly recommend getting a tub that has a shower overhead, as sometimes you want to take a break and cool off for a few minutes. The hot tubs are always nice and clean. Definitely a great place to take a date!

My friends and I had been joking about going here for a long time. We thought it looked pretty trashy from the outside. Well. Turns out it is incredible. We had an open air room with really cool lights, music, some cool mist thingies. Will be back for sure.
Also, I can’t believe so many people are saying the neighborhood is really seedy /​sketchy. Stark is nice. Tub and Tan is surrounded by nice restaurants, bars, a movie theater.

I was caught off guard to see quite a few reviews that I found to be less than what they’re deserving of at Portland Tub and Tan.
The rooms and tubs are extremely clean. They are well kept up and have up to date features to match the price tag. They’re prices are on the high end but it is definitely returned in your experience. I go here both to unwind and on a fun date; I have yet to have a bad experience.

The place could be about cleaner, it’s clean but needs a bit cleaner. The plastic sofas at the waiting room need to be wipe ld and disinfected.
The front desk needs to be just a bit friendlier like maybe letting us know what are the room options (indoor, outdoor, with or without sauna) we got in to a room without no sauna thinking every room come with sauna so we walked back to the front desk asking for a different room with sauna and had to wait for 20 mins which is not a big deal. But it would be nice to let us know in advance that we have options.
Coming from San Francisco where I frequented The Hot Tubs in Van Ness, this place is ok.
We will return because this is the only private hot tub we know in the area.

I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews about this place so I was hesitant to give it a try. One summer night in July my honey decided we were going. We got there around 10p.m. on a Sunday night. Apparently they do walk ins and the have a neon sign outside to let you know a tub is available. We were given room 11 which is an outside room and worth the $ 60. The room has a fireplace, waterfall, mood lighting, tv, radio and colored lights in the tub. Clean room and an awesome little view of the stars. Our hour went by way to fast but they do Buzz you 10 minutes before your hr is up. Despite the other negative reviews our experience was relaxing and drama free. Definitely will be going back.

This place opens at 2pm, not 10am as Unilocal says or 12pm as the business website says. Other than the scheduling confusion, this place was AWESOME!!! My partner and I arrived when it opened and rented an indoor room equipped with a sauna in addition to the hot tub. The man working behind the counter was pleasant. The room was very clean, and towels and ice water were supplied. The hot tub was enormous and featured a mist/​rain shower that cooled us down when we stood up. There was a TV and satellite radio, a shower, a toilet, and a sink. We turned off the lights in the room and relaxed with the lights in and about the hot tub (which changed color!!!). I was initially skeptical to try this place because some of the reviews were sketchy, but I thought it was super fun and cannot wait to go back!

I am so happy that we went to this place despite the many one star reviews and complaints. The experience was so relaxing, fun, and just what we needed. The man who checked us in was just the right amount of nice, the hot tub room was better than we’d imagined, and we are already looking forward to our next time. (In fact, we were just wishing we were still there.)
I don’t believe it is over priced. Towels are provided. Our hot tub room included a sauna as well. We also had our own bathroom (toilet & sink). The hot tub has a misting system with neat LED lights so you can «cool off» in the hot tub. There is a lounge area, radio, even TV.
We really enjoyed ourselves and will certainly be back soon!

So my gf and I often come here for a relaxing hour on a date night. Probably once every month or so. The place has always been great. Friendly people and clean. Unfortunately Saturday night 4÷18÷15 about 9:30 we waited a few minutes as the tubs were full. No problem. After about 15 minutes we were given room 7. Nice big tub. We went in. Turned the lights low and enjoyed our soak. When our hour was up we got out. Turn the lights on to get dressed and to hour horror there was 2 full used condoms right next to the tub! I almost puked. If I or my gf had stepped barefoot on those some body at the front desk would have caught an ass beating from my naked ass! To make things worst when we told the front counter guy he simply said «okay». That was it. I couldn’t believe it. Can’t see myself going back. Totally ruined it for me.

Rude rude rude! The lady I spoke to tonight was very rude on the phone. She was not helpful. She said I had to be here by 11pm. I made it in time. But when I get inside she is not at the front desk. I called for someone and she was very rude! I will never go back!

Don’t judge a book by its cover. The inside could use a little updating but the tubs were great. The place is clean and quiet during the week. Staff is so so. The men there are much more personable than the women. No wait time. The price may seem steep but it’s a hot tub to yourself for an hour. Anywhere else you go, you have to share it with God knows who.

I was thrilled to find out there was a place to go hot tubbing in my area since the one in Gresham closed several years ago. My boyfriend and I were super excited to try this place out and enjoy a relaxing soak. Since we live 30 min away, I called in to see if they were busy and the guy said the rooms were all full now, but it’s never a very long wait for one to open up. I asked if we could reserve one and he said they do not take reservations, it was on a walk in basis only. We drove 30 minutes to the place and spent a while looking for a parking spot close to the entrance. It’s a really sketchy neighborhood and I didn’t want to be too far from the entrance. After about 10 min we found a spot to park in front. We walked in and the guy at the counter mumbled something about walk in or paid reserve. We said we were walking in, since we were told they didn’t reserve. There was no one else in the waiting room but he said that every room had a «paid reserve» on it and nothing would be available until after 10 pm. This was around 8 pm. About that same time, another couple walked in. They had also called ahead and were told it wasn’t busy, and that they didn’t take reservations. The other customer was also upset and said «We just called in. You said it wasn’t busy and you take no reservations!» The worker said «I lied.» SERIOUSLY? We all stood there dumbfounded. The worker said «I lied» several times when we asked why we were not told anything about being able to reserve the rooms, and the fact that you had to be there to wait for the room. We left angry and disappointed, and feeling scammed. This is no way to run a business. I thought maybe it was just a bad employee, but from other reviews on this site it seems the owner/​management is no better. What a HUGE disappointment. It ruined our night and I’m sure the night of the other couple as well. I just don’t see what would motivate the employee to lie to get us to drive all the way down there, just to be turned away. If their lack of caring about the customer carries over to the way they care for their hot tubs, I’m glad we didn’t get in.

This place is awesome! I feel like I’m in an adult Disneyland. Great lighting effects and it’s so cool that they have a fireplace AND and a big tv. You can literally control almost everything in the room. Very romantic and unique. The customer service was also great. We had a very friendly young guy help us pick the perfect room. A nice and close «getaway» for every now and then.

We just moved to Portland and my boyfriend and I have been wanting to experience all Portland has to offer. I decided to take him on a date and then end the night with a relaxing soak. I was pretty nervous to the cleanliness but I did my research and saw all the great reviews this place was getting.
We had a wonderful time. The outdoor tubs are so cool! You can control pretty much everything from your room and there is a waterfall you can turn on that runs right into the tub.
The neighborhood was a little sketchy, but don’t let that deter you. This was an awesome experience and we are definitely planning on going back.

Hmm, I just want to start by saying my friend and I left here last Saturday night. we BOTH have a terrible case of STREP THROAT! Not clean! Disgusting.

We have been here a few times… Paid the crazy price, and had an ok time. but always left feeling like i got ripped off.
When we went last, we waited about 15 min for a room to open. We got in there and got into the hot tub. tried to turn the TV on, and could not get any sound. I called the front desk to tell them and they said keep trying and they would check something in the front. Could not get it to work. Also the Radio did not play sound in the Hot tub room.
We called back to the front desk after about another 5 or so min. and they said we could switch rooms… So we are about 20 min into our hour and haven’t been able to relax yet… the room she takes us to,… get this. The TV is broken! You can see it on the wall. but apparently it doesn’t work. So why did she even offer us to switch rooms when it was no better than the last room?
We tell her we just want our money back and we will leave, however she says she cant do that… they do not give refunds… I asked if we can use any other room. and she said yes but none of them have working TV’s except one or two and they were being used. (check all there advertizing about how every room has Cable TV and XM Radio…)
So we are in the lobby trying to get our money back and she said she can give us a 30 min credit… I said we dint get to use any of our time why would we only get a 30 min credit… So after arguing for a while, she called her boss on the phone, and the boss said no we cant have our money back and we cant even have a 30 min credit and she should have never offered that to us. (how nice huh?) So how we are left sitting in the waiting room, Already paid 60 bucks and are being told, Sorry there is nothing we can do, and we need to leave. she tried to give me the bosses number to call the next day… But there was no way I was leaving after just handing her 60 bucks and getting nothing for it. that is stealing! The lady stopped talking to me and left the room. I had to keep pressing the buzzer and she kept turning it off in the back. i had to finally raise my voice and use words I don’t like to use in order to get her to come back out and talk to me. I told her there was no way i was leaving without my money or something for my money.
Finally she said if we wanted to wait about 30 min the room with the working TV would be open. I said Fine but I want my whole Hour and she at this point i believe was a little scared of me and agreed to give me an hour in the indoor room with a working TV. Keep in mind we paid for an outdoor room 60 bucks. the indoor rooms are only 50 bucks… So im still out 10 bucks that i never got back. at this point i just figured it was better to take what i got and be happy rather than keep arguing. We got or hour of hot tubing in and left. I never could relax and was just angry the whole time.
I will never EVER be going back to this place, and I hope no one else does either! If all of the rooms are broken they need to either pay the money to fix them, or discount them. They make plenty of money to fix a $ 300 TV… and the cable not working. just call the cable guy… is that so hard???
I do feel really sorry for the lady who was working there that night. I know she was trying to help and was only following her company policies… I hate to be rude and I really don’t like yelling at anyone, So if you remember me, Im very sorry. and You should quit and find a workplace that will support you and not put you into situations like that.

This place is cool. I’m glad it exists, and I don’t see another like it anywhere nearbye. Even before I moved to town, I researched where I could go for a soak. It has a lot of bells and whistles that my favorite soak place (East Heaven Hot Tub in Northampton, MA) doesnt have. But it doesn’t have the same peaceful feel, redwood california vibe and fireplace that East Heaven can boast.
I don’t bother with indoor tubs, why would I want to sit around in the foggy, hot steam when I could sit under the sky? The outdoor tubs here are pretty stylin’. They are not the Zen gardens of the other place, but what they are… is Pimp! Music, TV (who the f*@? needs that in a hot tub), at least one even has a waterfall. ask for that one! The tubs themselves are great quaility and the space big and decadent.
Some of my favorite evenings have begun (or ended) with a soak. You get your man or friend, grab a cocktail out or at home, roll on up to Portland Tub & Tan, tune in your tunes and soak, and smoke a doobie (as we old folks used to call it) and relax, and who knows what else… (don’t forget about shrinkage).
$ 60/​hour for 2 isnt too steep (and cheaper than the east coast place), but it’s too rich for my blood these days. Any offers? but seriously — if you can afford it, grab you guy or gal and go for a soak in the evening sky!

I used to tan at Palm Beach Tan, which was awful. I was so glad to find Portland Tub and Tan. The people working there don’t act like tanning is the most important thing on earth. They don’t tell you that awful things will happen to your skin if you don’t buy the expensive lotions. They don’t ask you to fork over your bank account information. They don’t scan your thumb print when you show up to tan. (Yes, Palm Beach does this.) At Portland Tub and Tan, they just let you frigging tan, and they stay out of your business. True, it’s not super modern/​fancy, but really, what more do you need than a locking door, a towel, and a tanning bed that works? Also their prices are much lower.
As the name suggests, they also have hot tubs (which I have not tried and will not try.) These tubs are rented by the hour. At least once, I’ve been checking in to tan while another «couple» was checking in to use the hot tub, and it was obvious what was going on there. But the tubs are on one side of the building, the tanning beds on the other, and I really don’t care what adults choose to do… so whatever.
The misspelling on the marquee outside does drive me nuts «Your [sic] going the wrong way!» but really, I can get over it.

This place was a blast! Best way to put it. Now I will admit that the location is seedy and there are some undesirables that shuffle their way around the area BUT, if you can get past that, then you will thoroughly enjoy yourself. I promise.
After weeks of stressing out and worrying about everyday life (school, work, etc) my lovely girlfriend surprised me by taking me for a relaxing soak at Portland Tub. I had never been here prior nor had I heard about it but I was intrigued. We stopped by on a Thursday night and the place was empty, we were met by a somewhat pleasant employee who promptly checked us in and got us setup. My GF asked for the executive suite and off we went. Right off the bat when entering the room I thought «how cheesy». But first impressions arent always right. Since she had been here before she immediately starting messing with all the numerous switches and buttons on the control panel and then suddenly the room came to life. There was a TV, satellite radio, mini disco ball, waterfalls, water mist, rain fall, lasers all over the place… It was just so freaking entertaining!
We got settled in the tub and relaxed for the next hour and truly had a blast. My only real complaint was that the chlorine in the tub was extremely high and caused me some minor eye irritation. Since our room had a shower and bathroom, once we were done for the evening we cleaned up and left happy campers. Before leaving we took a bit of a tour and peaked in to some of the other rooms, more specifically the outdoor rooms. Let me say that I can’t wait to come back on a warm summer evening and relax in one of those rooms.
