Established in 2012.

After 15 years as a consultation and design professional at destination nurseries and landscape firms in Austin and San Francisco, I started Porthole Design in February 2010. Porthole Design offers complete landscape design and design/​build services in both Austin, TX and Portland, OR, where I moved our business offices in July 2012.

David M.

Business Owner

David Meeker not only has a passion for plants, he has a passion for writing, receiving a BA in English/​Humanities from St. Norbert College and an MFA in Poetry from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

David has been a Nursery Manager, Landscape Foreman, Designer, Project Manager, and Plant Buyer for several award-​winning nurseries and landscape architecture firms, including Gardens and Mark Word Design in Austin, TX. David is currently writing a book of garden essays.

As the owner and head designer at Porthole Design, David specialized in plant-​driven designs with an emphasis on natives, drought-​tolerant landscapes, edible landscapes, and organic/​sustainable practices.
