Palm Beach Tan

I love tanning here at this salon. They have a great selection of beds, I rarely wait longer than a few minutes and most of the employees aren’t pushy in trying to get you to buy stuff you don’t want. Jenny and Zach are great managers, they have always helped out with billing issues, lotion descriptions and losing goggles. I’ve only ever tanned at PBT and will most likely continue to unless God forbid I move somewhere they aren’t!

This is by far my favorite Palm beach tan with EXCELLENT staff and great promotions and variety of lotions! The diamond and platinum beds are wonderful and the store is always extremely clean and well organized.

I’ve been with Palm Beach for about 4 years now and I’ve been to a lot of their locations and this one is my favorite. The employees are super nice! This place is always clean. And they have the best beds from gold level, platinum, and diamond beds! The best! Plus they have the versa spray :)

Zack at the Broadway location is so nice and helpful. All the staff was sweet to everybody and exclaimed everything in great detail. The salon is so clean too. Worth the price!

I love this place. Lots of random free upgrades and discounts. The people at this location are my favorite they seem to know the customers well. It’s always clean and I never have to wait for much of anything. You always get a towel and I love that they have a little parking lot in the back which I didn’t even know existed for a really long time. There’s not a single thing I have to complain about.

Great staff that is super knowledgable. They got me beach ready for my vacation in less than a month!

Oh man… where to start! Pushy and aggressive sales. Even after repeated and strong words from me about how I will not be bullied into paying for something I don’t want. I actually stopped bringing my purse because they would either try to sell me a higher package or pester me about my lotion. They will actually ask you to show them! All I take is my set of keys and my eye protection. If I don’t have it, they can’t have it. Lol. Pathetic. The thing is that I don’t get my hair colored or my nails done. This is the one thing that I pay for to make myself feel a little better over the summer. I want to relax and enjoy my time in that bed. BUT, I have to be so nasty to fend of the high-​pressure sales that by the time I get into that bed, I am angry. My heart is racing and all I can think about is why did I have to be such a bitch to receive a service I am paying for? At this point I wish they didn’t even have staff. Just let me in and I can enter a code, like at my gym. They would do themselves a service to think of their business more like a spa and less like a street vendor peddling for my every last dime. So unbecoming. I have one more month to use and then I’m out. What sucks is that they do have a nice place. It’s always clean and the beds are good.

Great customer service. I stopped by to check on my membership from another state, and the manager (Shay?) happen to be leaving to meet with friends for dinner. Despite being off for the day, she stayed and not only helped me with the questions I had, but gave me the whole tour, and went over all the new options at this location. I was very impressed with her and the other staff members at this location, and decided to sign up again!

These guys sold me a 6 month tan package and told me it expired after 4 months. When I told them that was wrong they said that the girl who sold it too me wasn’t supposed too and was fired. They didn’t give me my money back.
I started going somewhere else but decided since its close to home to go for just 1 time, no packages this time. They said they would only let me so a half tan session 12 mins instead of 20, since they had no record of me coming in since may.
I just got back from a 2 week trip to cancun, and have tanned since I got back.
I will NEVER go here again.
Worst tan salon in Portland.

I made the mistake of trying this location and I will never cheat on my girls at Gateway again! Well, let’s be honest, I will probably occasionally go to use the Open Sun bed and the Beauty Angel (Different locations, different beds) but I can garuntee they will never see me reaching into my pockets for anything for than a stick of gum!
I will say that this particular salon has some nice beds and is in a very good location. However, the staff is for the most part, extremely undertrained and it is very evident that much of what the spout of while trying to sell products and/​or upswell packages is simply what they have heard other employees reciting. I have on several occasions asked questions I already knew the answer to, hoping to get correct information, only to receive something made up that in fact would probably sound pretty good to someone who didn’t know much about tanning.
THE MANAGER IS A COMPLETE LIAR. I don’t know who decided that this twenty something year old troll has any business running a business but she will make anything up as long as it sounds good at the moment and she believes it will help her make a sale. She will tell a customer she always uses the light spray tan and then tell the next customer she always uses the dark. She makes up «facts» as she goes along and as a medical professional, I was appalled by some of the thing she was spouting off to other customers in my presence.
I love Palm Beach Tan but my advice, pick another location. As I said before, the Gateway location is absolutely my favorite but I imagine ANY location is better than this one. Hopefully the guy that works at the Broadway store finds his way to another location because he seems to be the only one with a brain in his head and he CERTAINLY derserves much better than that joke of a place. I can’t imagine the current manager will last much longer because from what I understand, she is leaving quite a bad impression on a number of customers.
Now, let me tell you the things that DIDN’T affect my low rating:
Tanning is expensive! The beds are expensive, bulbs new to be hanged regularly, the energy bills re astronomical, and then of course there is overhead! Your $ 30 – 90 per month is NOT much in the whole scheme of things so don’t walk in acting like you are paying their mortgages! The products are ridiculously expensive too, at an average 300% markup, I agree, but that is where they make their money so if you don’t like it, get your products online.
When they ask to see your goggles, it isn’t because they think you are a child, it is because it is required by state law. Just like the OLCC conducts stings to catch vendors not checking IDs, tanning salons can lose their liscences for not ensuring customers are equipped with proper protective eye ware.
I understand that not everyone has experience in tanning, but if you don’t, it seems tht a prudent person would do even a small amount of research before making assumptions.

After reading the reviews I was skeptical but decided to give them a try because they are close to my gym. I’ve been tanning here for about three months now and I love it. It’s always clean and the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. June is my birthday month and PBT gave me a free tan in any bed and a $ 25 discount on any tanning lotion over forty bucks! On top of that if I spent over $ 50 on lotion (which i did) I would get a one month bed upgrade =-)

After reading the reviews I was skeptical but decided to give them a try because they are close by and I am going on vacation soon. Armed with the knowledge that they would try to up-​sale everything I felt ready to fight off the sales pitch and just get a tan. The staff was very friendly and they seemed knowledgeable. The girl that helped me gave me the options and definitely pushed for a package but that is her job. She gave me a decent deal and when I declined the lotions and everything else she was fine. Yes there was a tanning tax but I don’t think you can hold that against them. We are spoiled here with no sales tax and expect the price to be exactly as advertised so I get why that upset the previous reviewer. But since I was expecting it I was fine. Overall, it’s clean, the people are friendly and the price seemed reasonable.

This place is out to rip off the pale people. I went because of the special.70 dollars unlimited tans per monthand ended up with tan tax, activation, and other chargers at 105 $. I canceled it within 5 days and no refund. Nor did I use the month… ALSO 2 of the 4 times I tanned beds are dirty. AND they pressure you everytime to purchase thier product even stating «your tan will not work without our product» LIES!

I really appreciate a business that trains it’s staff to KNOW something about the products. The staff was really knowledgeable about the beds and the products and gave me recommendations for my skin type… way more than I expected from a tanning salon.

first off, i hate going to tanning salons. but i broke down. what can i say? it rains a lot here. the girl at the front desk was intensely PUSHY. after clearly stating to her that i didn’t want anything fancy, just the cheapest bed she *still* insisted on trying to sell me more packages with fancier tanning beds. finally she backed down on that fight. then she wanted to know what kind of lotion i was using. when i told her, she actually asked to SEE the lotion in my bag. i told her no. did i mention she was pushy? of course she aggressively tried to sell me some of their ridiculously overpriced lotions. yapping away about them for what felt like forever. man, she tried haaaard. i turned every attempt down but she said that they would ask me the same thing about the lotion every time i came in. like she was warning me, buy our lotion OR ELSE! i seriously felt like running out of there but i was fiending for some rays so i went to a happy place in my head during the rest of this spiel. she then started trying to give me tips for MY type of skin. a skin lecture if you will, but in valley-​girl speak. as if she knows MY skin better than me! she’s not a freaking dermatologist. if anyone knows the way my skin reacts to sun, it’s ME.
after that stressful ordeal of her trying to swindle every possible cent she could, she made me SHOW her my goggles. rather than just trusting me when i told her i had them, she completely treated me like a little child. there was no respect or customer service whatsoever. i feel like if i would have been willing to spend an obscene amount of money she would have been more polite. but i really don’t see the sense in spending hundreds to lay under some florescent lights for a few minutes. i’m not that into it.

20 minutes later, i was finally tanning. damn you, oregon! if only the sun shone here more than 2 months out of the year, i’d never have to go through this sh! t again.

Pacific Beach Tan, now called Palm Beach Tan is another one of those tanning places I hate. The kind where they’re always trying to sell you something, push something on you, convince you the sky is green, write out numbers on a piece of paper with a thick sharpie.
BUT I needed a tan, so I did their monthly deal where they charge $ 20 plus a $ 25 dollar activation fee plus a $ 5 a month charge for running your credit card every 5^th day of each month.
Well, when my credit card was stolen and canceled I didn’t think much of the fact that Palm Beach Tan would be NEEDING my money. And, I didn’t really feel much like tanning anymore so I didn’t worry about it too much.
Until 3 months later when I got an E-​MAIL telling me I owed $ 80, and once I paid it I could continue tanning.
So you’re telling me I could have been tanning this whole time? Oh no, because my account was past due. But they’re going to continue to charge me until I come INTO the store (not CALL) and cancel my membership. I did, after all, sign a contract.
So, obviously this is how they make their money, not because they have great tanning beds, not because they offer the premier memberships and ridiculously overpriced lotions, but because they require a contract to be signed before tanning.

I am very very ashamed to admit it, but I went tanning a handful of times this winter.

It’s horrible, and I feel very stupid about it. So much so that my pal and I SWORE to not tell a soul that we were doing it. Friends thought we were secretly conspiring about doing drugs… ah nope, just tanning.
It’s totally unhealthy! It seems kinda superficial! It’s totally embarrassing! I’m not a freshman in college anymore! (I know that some people do it for some sort of health reasons, but I wasn’t, so you must allow my self-​deprecation).
Listen, we’re both really pale and I have come to terms with that. I’m typically quite content with it. If I had one of those milky porcelain doll complexions that everyone oohs and aahs over I surely wouldn’t be exposing myself to harmful rays.
But I don’t, it’s just pale. Just plain pale. And that’s fine too, but it was a long winter folks, and girl needed some Vitamin B (or UVB but whatever).
Alright, I’m done justifying my actions.
Seriously, purchasing a package from this place was like buying a used car. They really try to up sell and basically it’s these 20 year old girls thinking that their business tactics are convincing and maybe if they push hard enough, somehow I’ll be hypnotized by their dark dark brown leathery skin into buying a lifelong package of tans for $ 9,000.

Sure, I’ve fallen victim to pushy sales tactics/​scams in my day (mostly from a love for periodicals… that’s another story) but I don’t want to be TAN, I just want to be normal color, so drop the pushy.
Then on subsequent visits they’re all about selling you lotions and and the newest spray tan and so forth. I get it, you work on commission. Enough, I say.
Anyways, I was totally averagely pale for a couple months.
It was empowering.
If you can deal with little tan ladies in college trying to tell you what to do (maybe you’re into that?) then I guess it’s okay. Er… I mean, it’s bad for you! Don’t go!
