NMT is a specialized field of music therapy. We focus upon treating neurologic impairments by accessing different parts of the brain. NMT utilizes components of music such as timbre, rhythm, harmonic structure, melody and the ability to evoke emotions.

By accessing so many parts of the brain, we are able to foster new neural pathways and promote greater rehabilitation, particularly within the domains of language, cognition and movement.

History

Established in 2012.

This clinic was created in 2012 by board-​certified music therapists with additional training in neurologic music therapy. Research indicates that neurologic impairments related to Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, dementia, traumatic brain injury show a particularly strong response to NMT.

Business Owner

Angie Kopshy is a neurologic music therapist with a board certification in music therapy. Being a neurologic music therapist enables particular techniques to be billed to insurance, but we are still in the pioneering stage of this billing process. The company was created as a non-​profit in an effort to maintain accessibility to a greater part of the Oregon population.
