When Dr. Lam took over for the retiring dentist at this location, he attempted to charge my father as a «new patient» for a $ 68 cleaning charge $ 130. Then pushed for x-​rays that were not needed.
Upon refusal for excessive cost gouging, a letter was received stating that due to «lack of trust» Dr. Lam would no longer take appointments for my father, only emergency… Humm, did that «emergency visits» comment cover his ass with legal actions… Oh yes.
Just a little food for thought, but You decide what «TRUST» was broken here and why were those the words chosen to be put in writing.
I am glad to hear This dentist is good to those who have reviewed so far, however, I am seeing not one of you was a transferred patient from the purchase of existing clients from the retiring dentist.
Pretty sad I must say.

I’ve been a patient of Dr Lam’s for a few years now. He and his staff are great! They’re always ready for me right at my appointment time and they do a great job.
I’ve also always been impressed that Dr. Lam volunteers his services to poor/​needy folks in SE Asia.

Dr. Lam = best dentist ever. I actually look forward to going to the dentist because it’s always a wonderful experience. The staff is friendly and efficient. The environment is clean and professional. Everyone goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. Dr. Lam always takes extra time to answer any questions that I might have and explains his answers in terms I understand. I will keep going to Dr. Lam as long as I have teeth in my head — after that I will still stop by to say hi once and awhile.

I found Dr. Lam through Unilocal,so I thought I should post a review here & pay it forward.
I know the dentist usually isn’t anyone’s favorite place to go, but I don’t generally mind it too much, though I do appreciate when dental hygienists make an attempt to be gentle.
The backstory is a bit long, but somewhat pertinent, so bear with me (or just skip to the last paragraph). I moved to Portland 6 years ago from the east coast, and had mostly been continuing to get care from my old dentist when I visited home.
I had gotten one other cleaning at a different Portland clinic recommended to me by a friend of a friend. The hygienist there was not gentle at all, the dentist quoted me some $ 2k worth of work he thought needed to be done on my teeth; when I subsequently was out east, my dentist there confirmed that my teeth were in pretty good shape, with a couple small cavities he thought were «watchers» (not worth filling unless they got larger, and he’d been «watching» them for a few years. And, if that wasn’t enough, they actually ran out of time at my first visit after spending an hour and a half on x-​rays and exam and I had to return later for the actual cleaning. Super fail.
So flash forward to Dr. Lam’s office. My experience here was really great from start to finish. The front desk staff were very friendly, even through my several phone calls with questions before the actual visit. The hygienist, while not the most gentle I’ve ever experienced, was overall pretty gentle; I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her. And Dr. Lam was completely professional and also very friendly and personable. And, when he was done inspecting my teeth and my dental x-​rays, he told me there was a place where a cavity had fallen out that he recommended fixing; other than that, there were a few places he’d want to watch, but nothing else he thought needed to be worked on. So, pretty much echoed my long-​time trusted east coast dentist.
Long story short, this is a very friendly office, with a decently gentle hygienist, and a personable, knowledgeable dentist who doesn’t tell you you need more dental work than you need just to pad his wallet. I highly recommend them!

I just switched over insurance at work and had to change dentists. I chose Dr Lam because he was in my neighborhood from my list online. However, I am very happy with this decision! Dr Lam and his staff were wonderful to me on my first visit. The front desk staff was welcoming, offered water/​coffee to me and gave me helpful info about filling out the new patient forms. The medical staff who took my X-​rays, cleaned my teeth and Dr Lam himself were all great to talk to and answered any questions I had before I could ask them. Really, a great overall experirence.

Ok, so I recently move from the East Coast to PDX a few months ago for a career move. I needed to find a dentist. I had never done this kind of thing on my own before because I have had the same dentist since I was child. I found Dr. Lam through a Google search and liked what I had read. Well let me tell you… Dr. Lam is a hygienic rock star! As he reviewed my dental x-​rays with me he answered every question I had and then some. It was very informative to say the least. His explanations were precise but easy to understand. His knowledge of local flavor was also amazing. Then it was on to my cleaning. I will admit I was a little apprehensive… it has been a while and I figured I was in for a real pain workout. Totally wrong! Lindi was awesome with the devices she used and there was hardly any pain at all. And the conversation that went with it made the visit twice as enjoyable. I would recommend this practice to anyone who is in the market for a new dentist or looking for a replacement.

I am able to recommend Dr. Lam wholeheartedly! After years of dentist dread, I am taking good care of my teeth thanks to the super friendly staff and professional care offered by Dr. Lam’s office. I recommend him to all my good friends!

Have had about 5 dentists in my life and they always kept me wanting more out of my experience, until I found Dr. Lam. If you are looking for a personable, gentle, knowledgeable dentist and a staff to match-​this practice is for you!
I’ve been going to Dr. Lam’s office for 3 years now and have ended my search for the ideal dentist. The first time I met him, we had a great conversation about Vietnamese and Thai food. He recommended some restaurants, and every time I go back, he picks up that conversation. Makes me feel like more than just a customer-​like he cares about «me». Plus, he volunteers his services in Asia and locally.
Dr. Lam and his staff are a talented group. Even though I’ve moved to the NE part of town, I’ll continue making the trip to use their service. I am happy to recommend them.
