Modified Style Portland is a fashion show fundraiser with a few lofty goals. We want to inspire people to get creative, to design, to be inspired. We also want to showcase sustainability and show support for local non-​profits. By utilizing found and donated scrap fabric, in our fashion show, we aim to highlight how easy – and fun! – it is to donate to worthwhile causes. With a big Silent Auction and a DJ and a kick-​ass raffle, this fashion show shows it’s easy to give.

History

Established in 2009.

We started out participating in a very similar event at a house in Seattle in 2008. It was my first time ever sewing and I was so inspired after getting back in touch with my creativity that my model, Janessa P., and I requested permission to bring this event to Portland. Right away we realized we were not going to be able to hold our event in a house because so many people were interested in designing, so we asked the Secret Society Ballroom to donate their space. Year two was donated by the Jupiter Hotel. Year three we became so big we needed to rent Disjecta. How big will we get in year four? Guess you will have to come and see for yourself!

Business Owner

Andrea F. is the owner of Gråsone Intuitive Coaching, event & flash mob planner, and former President of the Board at Sisters Of The Road.

Laura B. is an event planner and accomplished jewelry maker who hikes, bikes leisurely, and reads to relax. Armed with an education in Marketing and a professional base as a restaurateur, she posses the ability to quickly foster positive communication. She embraces new situations and smoothly deals with change.

Andrea has had the honor of working on Modified Style Portland with Janessa P. for the past three years, and was happy to have Laura B. join in our third year as the work keeps piling on!

Both Laura B. and Andrea F. are excited for Janessa P. as she moves on to other adventures!
