Hair litters the floor

It’s fair to say that my hair experienced severe neglect for several years. I’m unsure of what *finally* led me to cave in and search for a proper stylist (cosmic force?!), but several visits to Pigment Salon later, and I’m glad that I did. Because of Mish, I now have no qualms about dropping well-​earned c-​notes on my deserving locks. Perhaps there is a commonly used term within the beauty industry that can adequately describe the hair sorcery this woman conjures??? During my initial visit, I decided I wanted to return my hair to its original color (a darker brown). She convinced me to be more bold, and we went with a red color, which we both agreed is more reflective of my personality. The color turned out lovely, but what really stood out was her concern in returning my hair to a healthy state over time. Overall, I noticed the condition of my hair has in fact improved — even after the color processing/​touch ups. It’s true — her talent is made obvious not only by the happiness of her clients, but the health of their hair. Her expert techniques aside, Mish is a unique person who is fun to engage in conversation with… this makes each appointment more enjoyable. A sincere 5 stars. Highly recommended, TREAT YO-​SELF.

Mish is one-​of-​kind. She is the most talented hair stylist that I have ever experienced. She is intuitive, focused and super creative. She knows what I want and makes suggestions that always improve upon my original ideas. I truly enjoy going to have my hair styled with Mish. Highly recommended.

Mish is the most amazing person ever. She knew exactly what I was looking for and communicated so well with me about everything. She did exactly what she said she was going to do. I learned so much from her. She knows SO much about hair and color.

I have very dark hair and dream of going pastel… Mish was able to reign in my expectations, doing a slow transition over time so as not to ruin my hair. She bleached strategically placed pieces for color pops and it looks great. I highly recommend the extra conditioning treatment they offer if you’re lightening the hell out of your hair– I had zero breakage. She also gave me the greatest bang cut of my life. Can’t wait to go back for round 2!

Mish and her assistant Haley were very friendly and welcoming, and Mish listened intently to what I wanted to do with my hair. I was referred to Mish by a friend, and her glowing review was definitely accurate. Originally I was just going to keep my same style, but last minute I decided I should do something more radical. As soon as I started talking about what I might like to do, Mish seemed to read my mind and knew exactly what I wanted, and the executed it very well. Seems like a cut that will really last, and morph into something different but still cool in the coming weeks/​months. There are cheaper stylists in town, but why not pay a little more for a cut that will really last? Plus, as someone who doesn’t usually bring pictures and ask for that cut to be reproduced, I prefer a stylist who can read my hair and who I can give some suggestion/​direction to and then trust to run with it. Mish is the best!

Mish is wonderful. There isn’t much that I can say that hasn’t already been said here so I’ll just share my experience. My hair is challenging: it’s super fine, flat in back, curly in front, frizzy at the ends and oily at the roots. I have been to a LOT of stylists in town and while I have had some nice haircuts from many of them, I have never had someone really analyze my hair, talk about options, and tailor those options to my personal style. It was so great and so helpful. Mish took a lot of time to explain what she was doing and how I can accomplish the same thing at home. I really can’t say enough about Mish. I walked out of there feeling like two million dollars – one million because my hair looked good and one million because for once, I’m actually looking forward to doing my hair.

Mish is a great stylist. I feel like a lot of people are good at color, and some select people are superb. She is superb. I had been going elsewhere for the last year and a half, and had slowly become more and more damaged and orange. One appt. with Mish, and my hair color is stellar! She knows her stuff well enough to have consistent results, which is something that a lot of colorists don’t have! I wasn’t an easy fix… At all… And she just knew exactly what to do without even pausing!
Truth be told, she is not the cheapest, but with all good services… We get what we pay for! Although she looks young, she has been in the business for a very long time, and is worth every penny in my opinion.
I have had my hair done by a dozen portland stylists, and I actually went to hair school myself once upon a time, and this lady is the best I have had in Portland… And I am not an easy-​to-​please client! Just go to her! It’s as good as it gets in this town!
My advice: Don’t street park for color services at this shop, because dealing with the meter is a hassle! Just do the SmartPark. And tip big!

There’s hair stylists… and then there’s Mish. She’s in a league all her own. She is truly an artist with an eye for perfection like no other hair stylists I’ve ever met. She sees things and understands hair like no other! Today was the first day in my life that I walked in with a photo of the hairstyle I wanted and actually walked out looking like the photo. My hair was a complete disaster after a trendy hair salon owner in Beverly Hills butchered my curls. I’ve been miserably growing it out and growing more depressed in doing so. My curls were literally shredded and my layers were all choppy. But with much care and understanding Mish worked with me to cut it accordingly as it grew out without cutting too much and sending me into shock. :)
My hair is looking & feeling healthier and definitely much more stylish and manageable since I began seeing her. Besides giving me the style that I wanted with the mess that I was left with from the previous debacle, Mish also colors my hair beautifully. I have a red to blonde ombré that I have loved from my previous colorist and she picked up with my previous colorist left off only with a more natural tone to it. yay!
My husband and I both see Mish and we are so grateful to have found her since moving to Portland. She may book up fast and far out but she is absolutely worth the wait. :)

I have the most impossible hair — very fine, thin, oily at the roots and frizzy at the ends. Mish worked absolute magic with a cut that’s exactly what I wanted, making my hair look so much thicker, healthier and fresher. My hair looks a thousand times better. I was really apprehensive about cutting my hair short and Mish was super patient, and gave me some great hair care advice. She came highly recommended by a friend and was worth every penny.

All the reviews are true. I couldn’t even believe it myself. I went prepared with pictures, and Mish listened and gave advice… then worked magic. This by far, in all my years of getting my hair done, is the ONLY time I’ve left a hair salon crying… with joy. I love it. I love my hair. I asked Mish what it takes to be this successful EVERY time and she said you really have to be a good communicator AND you have to have the talent/​skill to make the client’s vision real. Mish has it all, and I’ll never go to anyone else.

I nervously made the decision to donate a chunk of my hair a couple of months ago, but knew that whoever I picked to style what remained of my frizzy, wild, thick mass of hair would need to know what she was doing. Let me tell you: MISH KNOWS HAIR!
I went in with some ideas of what I wanted my hair to look like, and she went with some of my ideas that she thought might work, and gently steered me away from others that would have been disastrous.
She gave me styling tips along the way, told me what to expect when I try to style my own hair in the coming weeks, incorporated what she gathered about my lifestyle and fashion sense into her choice of cut for me and then proceeded to give me an impeccable hair cut that turned heads from the minute I walked out the salon doors. I have never been happier with my hair!
She is a busy lady with a large and loyal clientele so if you make the smart decision to obtain her services, be prepared to wait a few weeks to see her knowing it will be worth it!

I have never written a Unilocal review, but my haircut and overall experience with Mish was so amazing, that I had to write a review!
I have fine, curly hair and have FINALLY found someone who just gets hair. I went in not knowing what I really wanted, and Mish talked with me, got a feel for my style and personality, and gave me some suggestions she thought would work. And my hair looks fabulous! She changed my life. She also explained my hair to me and gave me tips.

THE BEST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE!
Here is what made this experience great:
*She listened to what I wanted and then discussed what she thought would work or be best for me. I don’t put products in my hair, I don’t brush it, I don’t do anything to it except wash and condition it. I told Mish this and she gave me something that didn’t require any work.
*She was respectful when I asked if she had any shampoo and conditioner that was cruelty-​free and she turned me onto Deva Curl.
I receive at least one compliment on my haircut every time I go out. People often ask who cut my hair and I tell them that if they are ever in Portland, OR they NEED to visit Mish.
Every time I visit Portland I make an appointment now.

I’m going to preface this review by saying that I don’t usually put that much work into my hair (think ponytails) and I don’t usually care that much about how it’s cut. Until I recently decided to chop it all off!
I have been trying for about two years to grow my hair out from my last pixie cut and I got my hair to grow to below my shoulders. I came to the realization a month ago that I’m way too lazy to have long hair (remember the ponytails). Who was I kidding? I decided to chop it all off. I fell in love with Frankie Sandford’s sexy asymmetrical haircut and settled on that style.
I knew I was going to need to find a really good stylist to pull of this kind of cut. I did NOT want helmet-​head. That’s when I found Mish on Unilocal.
The below reviews do not lie! I’ve actually already recommended Mish to a friend of mine. Let me tell you, this girl knows hair! She listened to what I wanted, she talked me through the cut even while she was cutting. She told me how my hair acted and had ideas about how she could do different things and what that would look like. She taught me how to blow dry my hair and walked me through how she was styling it.
Seriously, Mish cut my hair exactly like the pictures I showed her. I was prepared for it to be different because I figured my hair wouldn’t act the same way or it has different texture, but Mish made it work!
Mish just got herself another long-​time client.

Mish is not just an amazing colorist, but her cutting skills are just as impressive! It’s so nice to find the perfect hairdresser with the perfect personality. She listens, teaches and styles like she really cares about my hair and her work. I will be her patron for many years to come! :)

Experiencing Mish has opened my eyes to what a great hair experience is.
I have fine hair. Mish completely gets it. She understands that there is more to it than just offering condolences on having fine hair. She is extremely thoughtful about her cutting process and the results are fantastic.
Mish is a stellar communicator. After briefly talking, she was completely on board with me and my style (not edgy, more classic). She had great feedback about what would look good with my face shape and hair type and maintained a dialogue that made me feel heard while still offering me a wealth of suggestions. She also talked to me about my comfort level with styling and didn’t push me into anything too exotic. Hallelujah.
I love that she was full of ideas but didn’t make me feel steamrolled. I have gotten some very bad haircuts by blindly trusting a stylist (and hoping they will magically know what will look good), but Mish has restored my faith! She even made the effort to give me a tutorial as she styled my hair.
I am thrilled to have found her and am excited to see where she takes me from here! If you are thinking about paying her a visit, do it!

She’s the jam. Mish provided a thorough consultation and provided feedback as to how feasible and attractive my ideas were going to look on me. She took her time, she was wonderful to chat with, and my hair is amazing. BOTH color and cut.
UPDATE: I was fortunate enough to find Mish when she first arrived in Portland. Quite quickly, I was priced out. Her color certainly warrants her prices, her cuts are great, but not at that price point. Portland is a small market and not necessarily that high end, I think her services are too expensive for the area. Frankly, my new stylist/​salon gives me just as good of cuts as she does, but I can’t speak to the color comparison.

Dear Portland: I hope you know how lucky you are. If not, let me explain. That loud NOOOOOOOOOO you heard from down here back in November was Mish announcing that she was leaving us in LA for your fair city. The collective mood was so grim she actually had to promise us she’d come back one weekend a month or we were gonna hold her hostage. Truth, people.
I first went to Mish over the summer with, quite possibly, the biggest mess imaginable. It started out platinum blonde but it turned into a haystack and it finally couldn’t be managed anymore and I needed help. She started to fix it by turning it to burning-​hot red without it turning into a gigantic mud puddle. Six months later, my hair is well on its way to a full recovery and most people can’t tell how damaged the old stuff is. It looks like hair again! Very happy.
She also totally gets my aesthetic, and so when it’s time for a cut, I don’t have to show her a photo and go, «This,» I can explain what I want, we talk about it, she explains what she’s going to do, and the right look appears on my head. Like magic, only better communication. If you happen to be of the gothy/​alt-​rock/​deathrock/​black-​clothes-​and-​pointy-​shoes persuasion, she’s the one for you — she understands us! :)
