Honest and good people who treated me well. I was having some issues that ironically vanished (not sure how that works) but they took my car on multiple rides and did diagnostics without charging me a penny. Talked me through everything they did and what the issue could have been. I will be going here for all future issues and would recommend them to anyone else.

These guys are fantastic, honest people. I never feel like they are trying to pull the wool over my eyes and charge me for things that aren’t necessary. As a lady, it can be tough to find a mechanic you can trust — let alone one that isn’t condescending. Keep it up, gentlemen!

These guys are the real deal. I’ve been taking my cars there since we moved to Portland in 1991! Chuck was the best — fair and honest — and always looking out for a better and less expensive way to solve a problem. While I miss interacting with Chuck, he passed on his ethics to the guys who took over the shop when he died. I just wish they also worked on Audis and VWs!

These guys are the BEST. They’re honest, straight forward, timely — and they fix the problem. I appreciate that they take the time to explain the situation to me and give me multiple options when they can. I’ve had some really negative experiences when it comes to mechanics and I used to agonize over car trouble, letting things go for months or sometimes years for fear of finding someone I could trust. Not anymore.

Without writing a novel about all the praise I would bestow upon Metro Metric I will try
and condense it in a few paragraphs. I have been taking my cars to Metro Metric since 1992 for several reasons… Chuck the previous owner was the most honest man I
knew, especially in the field of mechanics. He actually talked me out of doing certain
things to my car because of the expense. If I could live with a certain issue he stated,
that it would not be harming the engine. Since Chuck’s passing Ron took over the
business and the apple did not fall far from the tree. Ron is also is a very honest and good man and takes the time to explain the problem and the remedy.
The staff has been with Metro Metric for many years and these men are like family
to me. I have recommended them highly because you can trust them and you know
that they will do an excellent job on your vehicle. Quality service +…if I could give
them 10 stars I would!

Have always wanted to find «my mechanic» in Portland. No huge overhead to jack up the prices, competent, honest work. MM is it. They have worked on my two cars (Toyota and Nissan) for years, warranty their work, and make it easy. I highly recommend.

brought in my 87 nissan pup in to have the carb looked at because the car was idling too high. they found a vaccuum leak replaced the hose tweaked the carb and now is running like a dream. all in less than 2 hours. richard at the desk was extremely friendly. hawthorne auto clinic said they were the best guys in town and they trusted them. first time with these guys and im extremely satisfied with the service. couldnt reccomend more. A+

This place is great! Quality service you can’t beat! Always worried that mechanics would try to take advantage of a girl, but I felt comfortable and completely satisfied with the service I received. Very friendly and quick service. They didn’t try to sell me anything not needed on my car. They provided some advice of what would need to be watched as it may need to be replace later and focused on what needed to be replaced now to keep my car running properly and reduce future costs. I felt completely satisfied when I left there and I will return again!

I took my 2007 Civic to the Honda dealer for an oil change. They said my CV boot was leaking grease and would have to be repaired to the tune of $ 450.
I took it to Metro for a second opinion. After a quick look, they said that the leak was actually in the axle, and that’s what would have to be replaced, if anything. They gave me an off-​the-​cuff quote of $ 300, but explained that it’s just leaking grease onto another part that needs grease anyway. They recommended that they just clean it up so they could gauge how bad the leak is at the next oil change. If it’s a slow leak, they said I may not need to replace the axle for another 100k miles.
Final price: $ 18. I’m sold.
Also, I sent my fiancé (cute, young girl — probably an easy mark at a less honest shop) here a while back just based on these Unilocal reviews. She went alone and had a great experience. They gave her very valuable advice and explained what they would do if it were their car (same thing they did with me). We ended up doing the more expensive of the repair options, but we felt very informed in making that decision.

This place was first recommended to me by the Hawthorne Auto Clinic when I tried to take my ’88 Accord there and was told that they didn’t take cars past a certain age — Metro Metric was their top recommendation for Japanese cars. It wasn’t super-​convenient, but I was open to giving it a try, and they’ve remained my go-​to repair shop even as I’ve moved further and further away and even upgraded my vehicle to a newer one. They have always been prompt, efficient, and fully communicative with me regarding any potential costs, often saving me quite a bit of money — since I don’t much about my car being noisy or dinged up, I’ll often forgo repairs if there’s no safety issue involved. (They once found some zip-​ties to secure a part when I didn’t want to spend money to replace it — how’s that for service?)
A friend of mine who works quite a bit on his own vehicle takes his truck there when a repair is over his head, and he agrees that these guys do honest, quality work at reasonable rates. Just make sure to call ahead to get an appointment — they can get busy!

Please — if you live in Portland and you have a Japanese car and need any work done, take it to Metro Metric. Don’t waste your time anywhere else — even if it’s just minor work. As a woman who has been endlessly screwed by various auto mechanics and car dealerships extensively, I hugely appreciate the honestly put forth by Metro Metric. Metro Metric employs great mechanics who actually care about the quality of your vehicle. They will detail exactly what is wrong and won’t leave you wondering what you paid for.
I don’t care if you live in the upper NE/​SE 200s or all the way on the west side — taking your Japanese car to Metro Metric is 100% worth it.

Had a fantastic experience at Metro Metric! Fast, friendly, and seemingly reasonable… why not five stars then? Well, the place in Seattle that I gave five stars to was all that and they went over the top.
They took digital photos of the old part and then the new part going in and gave me a color inkjet printout of it. It’s that small step that is completely unnecessary but allows you to walk out the door 100% confident of the repair! Still, I am certainly going back to Metric (hopefully not too soon).

Trav’s review is exactly right. I feel totally comfortable trusting Metro Metric for all things car-​related because they run a smart, fair and honest business.

I have been seeing Chuck at MM for years now and I have to say, he is the best mechanic I have ever been to. I true, honest businessman who knows the quality of relying on word-​of-​mouth. Big Fan!
